There is a jolt as the giant red balloons stop the rapid decent of the airship. Stone and Jacob are able to ride the bucking deck, but Penelope and Natasha lose their footing and take 1 point of damage. The ship snaps through the tops of a few trees before finally settling atop the canopy of the forest. There is still smoke billowing out of the back of the ship, but it appears that everyone is okay. "A bit bumpy, but I think we are all unharmed, eh?" the captain shouts. "That is, except for my ship!"
The captain takes a quick scan of the ship and the engine before returning to the deck to address the crew and passengers. "Looks like we lost some critical components in the descent . . . but if we can get them back, I should be able to get her back in the sky. The aero-magic compression chamber sprung a leak and when that happens it means no more flying! Luckily I always keep a spare."
Captain Scarfang turns towards the party. "If you can give me a hand by collecting the missing parts, I'll get to work putting on the new compression chamber. What do you say?"
"Well, at least we did not crash." Penelope says picking her self off the ground.
"Are you alright Ms. Natasha? Smooth skins like yourself, though pretty, tend to take damage more easily then the rest of us." She asks the other woman who fell the same time she did.
"Before we talk too much business I need to retrieve my things and change into some proper attire. Then we can talk about ship parts and flying machines." She dust off her nightgown, rushing off to her cabin and then returning fully dressed and ready for the day.
After Penelope returns, Captain Scarfang tells the party that the ship lost its rudder, the primary steam valve, the engine's mithril gear, and the condenser orb. He hands the party a spyglass, "We are still up in the trees, so if you look around you may be able to determine where the debris fell." You can spot the following locations:
A cluster of darkened trees of the northeast whose canopy has been damaged.
A set of heavily splintered branches to the southeast.
Another set of similar branches directly south.
A rocky outcropping to the west that appears to have recently suffered a rockslide as some pebbles are still tumbling.
The crew of the ship tosses a rope ladder over the edge for the party to use to get down to the ground. They tell you that they can haul anything they bring back up to the ship via a pulley system. The captain wishes you luck and promises a reward if you can pull this off!
"We shall retrieve you items safely Captain. Stay safe, I would like to continue this journey as quickly as possible." When Stone leaves, Penelope hurries after him.
"Wait! Should we not discuss this before we just run off. We are not even sure what sort of creatures roam these parts. We need a plan, giant one." She protest halfheartedly.
"Starting one place is as good as another when we know so little." Jacob says with a sigh. Then, to Stone, "Stone! Wait for a moment at least when you hit the ground. We'll be down momentarily."
Stone continues onward towards the spot to the Northeast, but at a slower pace in order to allow the others to catch up with him. He looks curiously at the flora surrounding him to see whether it differs from that on the mainland and keeps on the lookout for any unusual or interesting bugs or beasts.
The party heads northeast towards the dark cluster of trees. For the first few hundred yards, the forest seems normal. After that, the forest floor turns soft and dark. It squishes underfoot and the air smells acrid. Off in the distance you see a massive piece of wood and metal that is the rudder sticking up out of this bog.
As you all approach the bog, the canopy grows thicker overhead, casting the area in deep shadows. Frogs croak and watch from a safe distance, gnats zip around with an annoying density, and there is a deep sensation that you are being watched. The ground turns softer still and sinks in such a way that you cannot progress with any speed.
How big is the rudder? Too large to lasso onto and try to drag out of the bog with all of us pulling?
"Failing any magical means some of you may have, we could couple up a few of our ropes, anchor them to a strong tree and try to make our way out to the rudder with a safety line... Maybe we could just lasso it though. Drag it out of the bog without getting in too deep."

Penelope would like to try and think about what sort of creatures or plants might inhabit this place. Specifically anything that might be dangerous to the party.
Natasha: You see no traps, but the ground does look like you would sink into if you stepped on it. Judging by the rudder's depth, you estimate that the bog is 3 ft deep. Moving through the muck is slow, but possible.
Jacob: The rudder is roughly 5 ft tall and appears submerged around 3 ft in the muck. If you could get to it, it looks like it would take a little effort, but the rudder could be extracted.
Penelope: While you have never visited the exotic land of Lon-Dia, you have been in plenty of forests. All you notice around you are dense, thorned, plant life and small critters. You see no signs of large predators in this area.

(Natasha stays out of the muck and lets Stone do the grunt work. She keeps a lookout just to make sure nothing sneaks up on them while they're retrieving the rudder.)

Stone steps forward from the crowd.
"I don't know much about these flying contraptions, but if you describe what you need and tell me where to get it, maybe I can help out."

"We'll have to have a chat about how exactly you'll be compensating me for my injuries, Captain..."
(She sells her 'injury' a little more, milking it for sympathy.)
"A list would be helpful, just list them off for me, I'm good at finding what I'm looking for."

"I say we start with the trees to the Northeast and work our ways clockwise."
Stone Nads does not wait for his companions' opinions before climbing over the edge of the ship and carefully descending the rope ladder.

"Thank you for your concern, darling. I'll give you a few moisturizing tips when we get thru with this."
(Penelope goes to change. Stone proclaims that he is going North East and starts heading that way.)
"Wait, Meat Shie... er, Stone!"

Stone looks at his companions.
"I will take care of this."
He unsheathes his sword and pulls his shield from his back. He bangs his sword against his shield loudly and yells,
"Swamp monsters living in this bog, this is the scene of an accident. Please vacate the area for your own safety."
Stone then wades into the muck towards the rudder with his sword aimed forward, jabbing viciously into the depths directly in front of him.

Jacob sighs, watches Stone ‘Leroy Jenkins’ into the muck, crosses his arms and remarks to the women,
“Bets on whether Stone lives to make it out of the intro?”
Is the rudder within 30-40’ of us? Or farther out?
