“Where are my manners… My guard is right. If you point us in the right direction, I’ll make it worth your while, friends.“ Natasha smiles at them. “Keera, dear - give each of them a coin or two, will you?”
Kerra's facial expression perfectly conveyed the question "Do I look like I have two coins?" Out loud, though, she said the softer version. "They are slaves. Giving them coins is like giving money to their master because they will bring it to him. The master is the one to provide for them."
She looked back at the kobolds. "So, who is your Master?"
“That’s what I get for coming all the way from my home in Baldur’s Gate. I’m not used to slavery, dear. I can see hiring you was a good choice. Kobold friends, take me to your master and I’ll see if I can do anything to improve your living conditions should you need it.”

Tasmara looks the Kobolds in the eye (for once her height works to her advantage!) "Tell us more about your master," she instructs the strangers, trying to get a measure of what they are saying.
Daphyra looks torn -- she wants to help Henna as she had set out to do, but she also feels there was something not quite right about the situation. She looks back a couple of times at the tavern where they had met with Henna, but eventually leans down to hear what the kobolds have to say. insight : 20
She looked around too, in case the master is actually somewhere near and watching them. (Perception: 9 )
You don't notice anyone particularly suspicious among the bustling flow of people.
The trio of kobolds look at each other nervously, their feet shuffling, and they converse among themselves in a low whisper before they shake their heads. "Our master won't let us say. Too dangerous. So many people. Safer at his house. He will tell you! Tell you everything!" ((You can attempt an intimidation or persuasion check for the kobolds to give up their master's name.))
Tasmara:
You notice the kobolds emit a slightly musky odor, like that of a wet dog.
Daphyra:
You read the kobolds are very nervous, perhaps scared what will happen to them if they screw this up. They are also not very smart, and seem only to do what their master told them to do.
"I'd say let's listen to this master. Listening doesn't hurt and that might give us a better picture of what is at stakes. Henna seemed really pleasant but there's something fishy, my gut tells me she actually doesn't own the gem and send us to do her heist." Felix then takes his book and writes a couples of notes. "Anyway, interesting city"

Kerra felt out of her element among those clean folk and tried her best to adapt. "Surely your master told you to do everything you can to convince us to come, did not he? Telling his name would help. See, the nice lady already told you we are coming, we just need to know how to address him, that's all." (Persuasion: 22 ) She really did not want to go too rough in the broad daylight in the middle of the bazaar.
Daphyra nods, backing up Kerra by saying to the kobolds, "Yes, we will come and see your master now, but we need to know what to call him when we meet him."
The kobolds look each other nervously. They shift their weight and fidget with their hands, unsure of how to proceed. One of them swallows hard and elbows the other, who then elbows the third. The third kobold, glancing around warily, realizes that there is no one else around, so he speaks up, his voice quavering and timid. "Our master is Hakaan-al-Khareen Zmirr Nill Mo Chatooor. He would very much like to see you. Yes. Yes. Please come with us."
Relieved that their message has been delivered, the kobolds lead you through the bustling marketplace, weaving their way through the crowds of people. They take you a few blocks away from the Perfume District towards the District of the Hyena, commonly known as the Gnoll Quarter. The Street of Ten Thousand Fools, where you find yourselves, is a narrow and dimly lit street. Despite the lack of light, the street is busy, with plenty of people coming and going. You catch sight of a lokum confectionery seller set up on a street corner, selling sweets to the passersby. The scent of the sugar and spices fills your nostrils. After a few more twists and turns, the kobolds stop at a red door that depicts camels leaping over the sun. "Here it is, lord and ladies." The kobolds bow to you obediently. "Master Hakaan is waiting for you."
The name did not tell Kerra anything, not right away at least. But while she was thinking about who that Hakaan can be, the group stepped into the Gnoll's quarters. "Dog street! I bet that Hakaan is either a dog himself or a friend of theirs. I would stick with the cat." Obviously, Kerra was biased on the matter, but she became very quiet and moved carefully suspiciously monitoring her surroundings.
“Kerra, I will have no such talk within the meeting. You will not insult our benefactor or you will be relieved of your position.” Natasha frowns at the Tabaxi as she goes to open the door. “Be kind to all men and women unless they give reason not to.”
Kerra did not answer but froze for a moment watching particularly intently Natasha opening the door without any precaution. (Perception: 10)
You find yourself standing in front of a carved double door, adorned with a depiction of camels leaping over the sun on its bright red paint. To you, the door seems fairly ordinary, maybe a little garish for your taste.
As Natasha opens the door, a serene green courtyard comes into view. The scent of honeysuckle wafts through the air, accompanied by the gentle chirping of birds and the soothing sound of water trickling from a nearby fountain. The courtyard is open and spacious, with a long balcony lined with pillars overlooking the area. The centerpiece is a lush, leafy juniper tree, standing tall beside a burbling fountain.
A fine, silk cloth hangs above the left side of the courtyard, shading a small group of finely carved tables and platters surrounded by cushions. You see a large figure sitting behind the table, in front of him an enormous meal. Among various unidentifiable cuts, you see bloodcake, sausages, the rarest-cooked steaks, pigeon pie, fried chicken, grilled pork, burnt lamb cutlets, battered fish, boiled crab, mutton, camel, bacon, hams, deep-fried locusts, and spit-roasted sheep.
“Hahaha! Come on in, my esteemed guests!”A boisterous voice suddenly booms out, jolting you from your observation of the surroundings. The laughter sounds like an angry hornet being shaken inside a tin can. The source of the voice is revealed to be a fat gnoll, who you assume is Hakaan. As you get closer, the extent of his obesity becomes clear. He is swathed in a colorful thawb that covers him but threatens to burst at the seams due to his girth. The gnoll is sitting behind the table, tearing into a giant turkey leg, his greasy lips smacking and chewing as he speaks. “So… chomp-chomp, Henna has hired you to do her bidding. Haha! Tell me, my guests,”He stuffs a big bite of pigeon pie in his mouth, and asks with a mouthful of food, “What has she offered you?”
“Five hundred gold pieces, my lord.” Says the woman as she looks at the large Gnoll. “What are you wanting to offer us?” She asks as she steps up, unafraid of the Gnoll. “Myself and my guardsmen and women are more than willing to listen to other opportunities.”

(retrospectively: Daphyra quickly stops at the lokum seller and buys a large box of sweets. She eats one piece on the way to Hakaan's house and offers the box around to the others. She has sticky paws by the time they arrive at the house and surreptitiously licks them to get the sugar off while they enter.)
Daphyra looks at the amazing spread on the table and wishes she hadn't just eaten the lokum.
"What is it that you ask of us, Hakaan?" (Daphyra is trying to prod him into bringing up the gemstone without her group mentioning it first.)
insight check: 19 (Is he more interested in the item being retrieved, or besting Henna?)
Felix enters and greets the master Gnoll, "I thank you for your hospitality, master Hakaan". He then stands silently on the side, gathering as much information as possible, while trying one delicious sweet between two observations. He waits for the Gnoll to explain himself but then ask out loud: "More important, why is that many people are interesting and willing to pay this much for a gem ? Is there something else behind ?"

Kerra kept to the background, a humble shadow following a more presentable part of the group. She refused sweets before but the meat dishes at the table of this fat gnoll were as enchanting as Mistress Hanna. Maybe even more. Kerra even stopped squinting at Hakaan for a few moments. Should the "guests" be offered some food, she would dig in unceremoniously and with an obvious lack of table manners. But aside from that, she continued to watch the host and surroundings.
