Barigil, you hear: "We must prepare for the inevitable assault on our defences. That is why I have hired orc and orog mercenaries. They will swell our ranks.
Another voice speaks. This voice is deep and it speaks in a language foreign to you. One of the Oni replies "Oh yes, let us address our visitor." The last thing you see is an Oni's leering face, before the portal explodes. You take 1d6 force damage.
Rex, you walk into the shop. Standing at the counter is a High Elf women, about 30-35 years old. She has white hair and brown eyes. She is reading a tome on alchemy. She looks up as you enter, then looks back down at her tome.
Barigil falls backward in obvious surprise, bruised and slightly bloody. "Oghma, Mystra, and sweet Tymora! What was that? Who could possess the power necessary to stop a scrying ritual like that? And what language were they speaking?" Barigil will pray briefly and touch his head to cast cure wounds on himself. (He gains 4 hitpoints back.)
OOC: I'm curious, who's temple was that at?

Rex stands there for a moment and takes it all in. He will give a pleasant smile with his tusk, gives a quick nod and approaches the woman. "Greetings, I am Rex Greenskin and I would like to inquire about some supplies. I was told that the local merchants here would be willing to help us in our endeavor. Would you be willing to help the cause?"
Assuming this catches her attention Rex will continue, "I am in need of some healing tonics, and perhaps some of your chemicals that explode and burn. And anything else you'd be willing to offer up to help ensure we take down the looming threat."
In case you're looking for one of these, I roll Cha(Persuasion) = 7.
Fin would have stuck with Rex and gone to the potion shop. He'd add weight to the half-orc's words by being present as an officer (consider that taking the Aid action if needed), and adding with a curt smile, "We'll take your military discount, ma'am."
She hands over 5 potions of healing, 5 potions of resistance, a potion of superior healing and a potion of heroism. She also says "adventurers are you eh, I may have a job for you."
"An upstanding citizen, and a beautiful woman. Two great things in one package" Rex lets out a laugh. He will take a healing potion and a resistance potions and hand the rest to Fin. "Would you mind making sure these get in the right hands?"
Turning back to the shopkeeper, "I didn't catch your name? I like to know who I'm working for before I agree to a job."

The shopkeeper says "I need to deliver some potions to a very important person. Some say shadowy figures are after them. Can you help me? I will give you each 15 gp and a potion of heroism. My name is Eldarin."
Barigil will apologize to the member of the clergy present, and ask them for any help they can provide in identifying the mysterious language and the spell/magic used, or at least if they can give him any advice on where to look.
"You have my apologies, [INSERT NAME OF CLERIC], I had no idea that would happen. Do you know what language that was, or perhaps what spell could do that?"
If I need to roll persuasion: 12 (9+3)
As long as I don't get a hostile response, I'll take whatever information I can get and head back to Oghma's temple and start to research the language. OOC: Also allows me to hang out there until we regroup for something.

"As you know, the temple of Oghma has a vast collection of tomes. You could also talk to a priest of Savras, the god of divination and fate for guidance." The high elf continues.
