The driver of the vehicle that is barreling down, looking to intercept your path, cries out as the arrow sinks deep beneath his collarbone. He keeps the vehicle steady though and smiles as Roo turns their Ride straight at the Demon Grinder.
The other two wereboars manning the separate harpoon guns, each fire off a harpoon. One sails towards the Devil's Ride, the wereboar confident with his 21 attack. Unfortunately for him, it skitters off the front of the machine laying motionless in the dirt. The other wereboar fires off a harpoon directly at Roo and misses.
We'll say the Demon Grinder is about 80' away heading "north", while the Tormentor is heading "east" and the Devil's Ride has turned "south" towards the grinder. As it gets closer, Corlith had shouted out his command and the driver starts frowning...
Wilfred jumps on Tormentor with the others. He turns and waves as they leave "Thanks for everything Midge! You too, Barnabus! I appreciate you!"
With a sigh, Wilfred settles in. He finds a place to reluctantly set his glaive, so it's out of the way but within reach. Oddly enough, there was a perfect spot, almost like it was made to fit there. Well, maybe it was?
-----
As the other infernal machine appeared, Wilfred's first instinct was to hide, just as he had been done entering the waste. But now, he doesn't need to. How friends were here! He removed his bow and got ready. As the others started attacking, Wilfred surveyed the situation. Those happening harpoons could be an issue. "Let's get to it. Hup hup!"
He looses the first arrow, aiming for center of mass of the first harpooner, hoping to push him off. Before it even reaches his target, he had the next arrow notched and sent flying! Both hit there marks!
The arrows from Wilfred's bow fly straight and they fly true. He adds some power behind them that as they strike the two at the harpoon guns, they are actually pushed from their spots in the vehicle. They fall a$$ over tea kettle as they land in the dirt on each side of the Demon Grinder, but looking at them... they don't have a scratch on them.
The two wererats take over the harpoon stations and the first one sends a harpoon back at Wilfred, while the other sends one towards Roo as he is driving straight at them. With half cover for Wilfred, he is lucky as the harpoon hits the side of the vehicle and harmlessly bounces off. The one firing at Roo, sends the harpoon off into the distance, wildly missing the gallus.
Hearing the command from corlith directed at the hostiles driver, IronMaiden makes a snap decision. Wherever the hostile vehicle will end up, either barrelling forwards or reversing out if the way, the one place they won't be in a moment is exactly where they currently are.
Swinging the wheel Ironmiaden heads straight for the hostiles, hoping that the plan will avoid collision and possibly mop up any of those who fell of the vehicle.
Lulu spins around in agitation. She doesn't want to waste time here, she wants to go find Zariel's sword. She dodges while in the air, hoping this will be over soon.
The driver of the Demon Grinder listens to Corlith's words and instead of charging Roo and Corlith's vehicle like he was preparing to do, he instead reverses, surprising everyone on board. He guns it, sending the infernal machine about 100 feet back from where it was. The two wereboars scream in frustration as they are left in the dirt.
The two turn just in time to see IronMaiden charging right at them. The first one isn't able to get out of the way in time, the second one is. The tormentor bumps and drags a bit as it rolls over the wereboar. The creature is now prone after being run over, but as you look back, you see no blood.
(Tormentor is where the Demon Grinder was, the Devil's Ride is now heading straight for the Tormentor's side and the Demon Grinder is now 100' back. Two wereboars are by the Tormentor.)
As the other vehicle reverses just out of his comfortable range, Reed notices the wereboars and their being seemingly impervious to damage. Then he smiles and taps his bow.
"Might need a bit of magic with them," Reed says.
He holds himself still again, takes aim at the one that was just run over and lets his arrow fly (at 1st Wereboar - 7,3, + 9 = 16 to hit for 9+15 sneak attack = 24 magical piercing damage).
As the arrow races across the distance, he looks up quickly to the air by his head and says "Go earn your keep."
As soon as the arrow strikes the first one, the second wereboar hears a shrieking wail in its ears, a shrieking with a decidedly Blackpoolian pirate accent (4 necrotic damage)
Virro looks at the harpoon flinger in frustration, he stands for a moment and points his gloved hand at the two wereboars, and an ethereal hand shoots out, splitting into two and attempting to strangle them.
1st Chill touch : 20 to hit, for 12 points of necrotic damage.
2nd Chill touch : 16 to hit, for 9 points of necrotic damage.
Virro sits back down and takes cover in the tormentor.
Corlith also notes the lack of impact to the wereboars to being run over. At least one was knocked down, which will slow it down. He decides to make sure the other one is also slowed, whilst taking a pot shot at the one in the dirt for good measure.
He uses the magic of his bracers to double down, sending two beams of icy energy, one at the each wereboar next to the tormentor.
"If we can avoid getting close, we can pick them off at a distance", he suggests to Roo hopefully, but doubting the gallus will listen.
Action: Ray of Frost at standing wereboar - To Hit: 16+9=25, Damage: 1+8=9 [cold] - if hit, speed reduced by 10ft Bonus Action: Ray of Frost at prone wereboar (disadvantage as prone) - To Hit: (13, 11)+9=20, Damage: 5+1=6 [cold] - if hit, speed reduced by 10ft
Roo continues to shout taunts as he drives toward the infernal machine...but at the last minute, listening to Corlith, he nods, bobbing his head and turning the vehicle so as to keep Corlith at his max effective distance...
The next attacks against the wereboars definitely leave an impression. The one on the ground becomes bloodied he gets so battered. As Roo turns the vehicle at the last minute to avoid crashing into his friends, he sees the Demon Grinder getting ready to roll forward again, a look of irritation upon the driver's face.
The wereboar on the ground (A) stands up, but finds he can't move much. Taking out his maul he steps up to the Tormentor and swings. Both attacks hit, but neither cross the damage threshold for the machine, so the occupants just feel the vibration running through.
The other wereboar has a bit more movement and heads towards the tall one in the vehicle. Setting his sights upon Wilfred, he swings his maul at him (Wilf has half cover). His first connects with 7 damage, but his second goes wide.
As Wilfred sees the wereboar heading towards him, he thinks to himself how he should have stuck with his Glaive instead of the bow... But that is a nice maul he has....
Wilfred reels back after the first hit as the second swing goes wide. "Well now, I glad you got closer!" Wilfred drops the bow at his feet (making sure it's still in the vehicle) and grabs his glaive. He goes to make to vicious swings to the wereboar! However, his bow is now in the way of his footing.
"@!$#*&". His first attack goes wide and his second is even worse.
Seeing their wereboar cousins in combat with one of the vehicles, the two wererats at the harpoons target the vehicle to try and get it to stop and make easier prey.
The first harpoon crits as it hits the Tormentor and crosses the damage threshold at 21 damage, the second one misses. The first harpoon wedges itself into the harpoon flinger on the Tormentor, narrowly missing Virro. The flinger is now out of commission and the Tormentor has 39 hit points left.
IronMaiden feels everything going wrong with the Tormentor, listening to the internal whines and whirs pitching differently than before, they know this'll take time and effort to fix, but for now making sure no more damage comes to the machine is their first priority. They drive forward letting the devil's ride take lead on the attack, but makes sure bot to get the Tormentor out of the range for it's harpoon to do damage.
Lulu continues to fly around, but other than being agitated, she doesn't engage in the fight.
The wereboar driving the gargantuan vehicle snarls loudly and guns it. He ends the vehicle's trajectory right next to the wereboars that fell out, with the vehicle between them and the two you all are driving, giving the wereboars on the ground complete cover.
(Now both machines are to the East, the Devil's Ride a bit south, say 30-40 away)
Reed frowns a little as the other vehicle swings around to give cover to the two humanoid boars on the ground. Oh, well. Back to aiming at the driver then.
He again takes his time, catches a moment where he can let himself go completely still and lets an arrow fly at the driver.
Bonus Action - Steady Aim
Action - Shortbow - (9, 12 + 9)= 21 to hit for (11+10 sneak attack) = 21 magical piercing damage.
Virro stands briefly and points his gloved hand at the wereboar driver, the ghostly hand shoots out and latches on, but before it does it splits in two and seeks to throttle one of the wererats behind the driver. He sits back down after doing this, shooting a mean, glaring look at them.
Chill touch : 22 to hit for 9 points of necrotic damage.
Chill touch : 17 to hit for 8 points of necrotic damage.
Corlith turns to look back at the enemies behind them, seeing the rat creatures still manning the harpoon guns on the other vehicle, and decides his best course of action is to distract them.
"You got lucky once, but your aims are as bad as your smell, you miserable, vomitous masses", he calls out, lacing his words with power and using his bracers to impact the two wererats.
Action: Vicious Mockery on the most hurt wererat - DC16 Wis Save or take 4+1=5 [psychic] damage and have disadvantage on next attack roll before end of its next turn. Bonus Action: Vicious Mockery on the other wererat - DC16 Wis Save or take 3+3=6 [psychic] damage and have disadvantage on next attack roll before end of its next turn. Special: Bastion of Law - 5d8 (Activated previously and lasts until his next long rest unless used)
As Devil's Ride heads South to keep close enough to the enemies vehicle but not in their path, the driver and the wererats get hit as they pause for the wereboars. The two wereboars attempt to climb back into the Demon Grinder. But both slip and slide off the metal vehicle, falling back into the dirt and not making it. The driver turns back towards them and growls at them, waving his hands around in angry gesticulations.
But seeing they aren't able to get back on yet, they dodge behind it.
Wilfred, seeing everyone move beyond his reach (again!), decided to go back to the bow. He picks up the bow at his feet and carefully aims it at the drive. His arrow flys true and strikes him center of mass, hopefully unbalancing him. Not taking time to celebrate, Wilfred quickly lets a second arrow fly, this time at the closest wererat to him. "I hope these have an effect this time. Otherwise, maybe I should take the wheel and you can do your magic thing, IronMaiden."
