Hello, this will be my first time DMing so please be patient with me. This campaign is about a group of adventurers part of the Adventurer's Guild, a government controlled mercenary guild. The Guild offers food at low prices and free lodging to its members. You will start in a rural town called Sydil and be able to explore the land of Rurik and take on quest that are available through the Guild. The campaign will have lots of combat but it will also have RP. A lot of combat can be avoided by talking things out. I will be able to post multiple times a day. My timezone is GMT+6
Create a level 1 character using rolling or point-buy. If you choose to roll for stats, post your rolls here. There are some restrictions regarding character creation though:
Please choose a race from the following races: Aarakocra, Dragonborn, Elf, Dwarf, Tiefling (but not the feral variant), Genasi, Gnome, Goliath, Half-elf, Halfling, Half-Orc, Human (Not the feat variant), Tabaxi, Aasimar.
Feats: Please limit feat selection to the ones listed in the Basic Rules, Player's Hand Book and the Dungeon Master's Guide.
Alignment: In this campaign only Lawful, Neutral and Chaotic alignments exist. Good and Evil are subjective. Spells and abilities that rely on good or evil alignment will now work on Lawful or Chaotic alignment.
Class Restriction: Please do not pick the Blood Hunter class or any sub-classes from Uneathed Arcana.
About Rurik and Sydil:
The town of Sydil is a serene rural town. The buildings of the town are connected by small dirt roads surrounded by grass. Seeing the odd tree a little bit away from the road is not uncommon. Walking through the small town, you'll notice a small inn on corner of the town. Across the road is the armory. Smoke can be seen coming from the a hut in the small lawn at the back of the store as the shop owner and blacksmith toils away to create their armor and weaponry. Walking further along the road, you see a huge oak tree in the center of the town which marks the town square. Bards of various races play their instruments and sing their songs while the local children dance and play. The road splits here leading to the 4 sides of the town. The roads are lined with houses and various shops on both sides. You notice a relatively larger wooden building to the left which has a watch tower connected to it. Looking to the right, you notice another large building. This one is decorated with decorative flags and hanging banners. If you continue to head straight at the town square, you will eventually arrive at the largest building in town. A two storied house made of wood and stone at the northern edge of town. Welcome to the Adventurer's Guild.
Sydil is located in the Wylan region of Lun. Lun is part of the Rurik Union. Rurik is a vast land situated between two powerful kingdoms. 150 years ago, it was ruled by small independent dukes and kings. When the Regle Empire began forming to the north and the Ervo Empire began forming to the west, the most powerful rulers of the region gathered all the other rulers together to form the Rurik Union. By combining their powers, they deterred the two empires from attacking. Now, the families of the old dukes and kings are charged with ruling and protecting their own areas. As part of their treaty, they do not attack each other. In return, when they are in need, the other neighboring kingdoms provide support to them. The duty of ruling Rurik as a whole falls on a council of the most powerful leaders of Rurik. Once every year, the council meets in the capital city of Ardenford to discuss the betterment of Rurik.
Map of Wylan:
For traveling by walking, moving from one square to another along the road takes half a day. Off-road movement takes 1 day. Movement through forests takes 2 days and movement through mountains take 3 days. Traveling through tall peaks also takes 3 days but with ability checks.
Sounds like a hoot. I can post most days (weekends dependant on the weekend). Guess I'll try rolling some stats and see what comes out!
Ability scores: 131515131214
Well... That went pretty well. Let see...
How does a High Elf Wizard sound? I'd like to try a bladesinger possibly, so will have to start with a dagger unless I can buy a shortsword. Will probably be Neutral in alignment, now swaying to the chaotic end that elves usually favour, or the lawfulness of wizardly study.
This sounds like a lot of fun! I'd like to join, please. I'll be using the point buy system for stats.

Hi there, I am relatively new to DnD and this looks like a great way of getting further into it. I am at GMT-00
Ability scores: 8813111111
Folki
Folki is 12 year old Aarakocra. He is 3'11" and extremely sensitive about his height.
His class is Barbarian.
He is very unperceptive and is not great at making life decisions but he tries. He's also not very good at reading people.
Folk in these parts tell stories a great bird swooping down and saving people when they are in danger from bandits and other miscreants. Little do they know that it's just Folki beating them up because they called him 'cute'.
His alignment is neutral, he's just trying to get by.
Would absolutely love to join this campaign, have many other characters that I could swap in if the party needs something (got bit over excited on the builder)
I'm new to PbP so not sure how the finer points work.
When I'm describing what Folki does, I'm guessing I can just say what happens for simple things (eg dont have to roll for flying up into the oak tree) so that we dont have to waste time doing lots of rolls?
Sorry if I keep skipping over people and keep editing my posts. It's kinda hard to keep up with 7 players doing their own thing. Now that you're all together (minus Val), it'll be a lot easier for me.
It's pretty insane. Over 50 posts in the span of 3 hours! I think we just all turned up at the right moment online. It'll probably settle down into a slower consistent flow after a bit.
Just so you know I'm busy this weekend, but might be able to post in the evenings (I'm GMT btw). Just letting you know ahead of time.

Recruitment is now closed. The campaign will begin after I make some final preparations. Thanks everyone for your interest.
Hello again,
The game begins on this thread: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/play-by-post/17274-the-guild-game-thread
I have re-named the old recruitment thread to make it the discussion thread. Discuss anything game related like plans and my dungeon mastering here. I hope I can make the game as fun as you all expect.
I'm new to PbP so not sure how the finer points work.
When I'm describing what Folki does, I'm guessing I can just say what happens for simple things (eg dont have to roll for flying up into the oak tree) so that we dont have to waste time doing lots of rolls?
Simple things you can just state. If it requires a roll, I'll tell you.
My bad on the colours, Zulk. Fixed that lol

I’m coming too! Just reading through the thread but it keeps growing!

Ikr. I have never seen a PbP grow this fast. Don't worry though we are waiting.

It's PbP. Don't worry about it. Also I think the fact that all of us are from relatively closer timezones has something to do with it.
