Oh, if Val is unavailable (or not find-able), Elsara will ritual cast a Detect Magic to see if there is magic in the air (mainly seeing in the fog was conjured, or if it is a natural phenomena.)
Devarus furrowed his brows and purses his lips for a second or two, then his eyes go wide. "Although I have made an exception for those miscreants playing with forbidden magic, and willing causing all these travesties... Frankly, I have never been one to hate a thing or person otherwise; especially for their heritage."He faintly smiles down at Runt. "Between my travels in youth, and my time spent as a guard after, I have seen and met and learned from many a people. Enough to know there is little to no reason to hate someone for being a bit different. And it is tiring too to hold on to the feeling. Tiring and waste of time."

"I could try to move it, but I think I will only be able to open a little zone in front of us... if that helps.." asks Valwaryn both to Elsara and to the Captain.
Runt begins to cry in earnest. She buries her face in Deva's chest as the walls build by years of emotional abuse come crashing down like a damn undone. In the midst of her emotional outpouring, only a few words can be understood Why......father.....miss you....

"Hmm... Maybe it's not a dastardly trap after all..." Elsara comments, a little disappointed she hasn't got to do some piratey swashbuckling things. "Well... I guess we can practice while we wait." She mentions, taking out a scimitar and attempting to practice her blade dancing in the rain.
Taken aback. Devarus could only stare off into the middle distance in shock for a few seconds. But he finds his center soon after, and without a word wraps wraps Runt into a hug. Because it felt right, and soon enough, understanding blooms within the half-drow from hearing the words. Even if he had not the complete story just yet, what had been overheard made him hold her just a little tighter, and even for a few tears to bud in his own eyes.
Nevertheless, he remained quiet, held back his own tears back, and aside from a few calming pets to the back every now and then, would simply keep his hold of her for however long she wished for it.

After a good couple of minutes, Runt seems to calm down. Her energy for crying spent. Soon enough she pulls away from Deva and says. Thank you. She begins to clean her face, sitting against a nearby wall.

Gendan walls aimlessly about the boat. She stumbles upon Runt and Deva’s emotional discussion and immediately does an about face. Luckily, her next encounter is Elsara practicing her sword-dancing. “Care to spar? I think I owe you.” Gendan reaches her hand out and grabs her pact sword from thin air. A devilish smile painted across her face.
"Okay!" Elsara says energetically. "Umm... which one shall I use?" She asks, gesturing to the scimitar, short sword, and wavy longsword. "Ooh, wait, maybe I should summon a sword!" She offers.
"Mn. You are welcome, Miss Ruu." Devarus said while trying to play off cleaning his face. After a moment of just standing there smiling in comfortable silence, he starts at a thought, and with cheeks starting to darken clears his throat. "I, uh, I should... I should get back... b-back to my patrols."He snatches up the longbow and started to walk off in a hurry. Before he had even made it two steps away however, he hesitates, and looks back to Runt with a crooked smile. "If you ever need reminding, or... just to talk or... whatever may be. You need only seek me out."
Devarus tries to playfully yet lightly ruffle Runt's hair on his way out.

Runt hardly reacts to having her hair ruffled. Not that her long broad braids could ruffle much as it is. After a short while of being by herself, she emerges. Though her eyes are red from tears, and her armor is damp from the emotional outpouring, she is happier that she has been in a very long time.
She returns to her party in time to witness a sparing duel.

"Well, it only lasts a moment or so, but yeah. I can use that if you want!" Elsara sheathes the scimitar, leaving her empty handed. "If you're ready, I'll summon it out and we can go!" She has her hands readied, as when the match begins, she calls out in arcane tone as a blade of pitch black emerges into her grasp, looking as if it weighs nothing.

There is no magic in the air. The fog is natural. It probably came about due to the sudden cold spell brought on by the 4 day long rain.
For Runt:
Devarus furrowed his brows and purses his lips for a second or two, then his eyes go wide.
