(Sorry for lack of posts over the past few days. IRL stuff has come up and will probably not be able to post most of this week.)
Elsara keeps with the captain, who is most likely going to make sure that Runt isn't going to do in their last point of information as to what is going on. "I hope we can find out what is really going on. It might be best if some of us wait outside, right? Keep an eye on the crew in case there are some who sided with the first mate?"
"Well it seems that the band of pirates has disbanded but as soon as we heard your news we came back inmediatly. Are you ok? do you need healing? " asks Val to Gendan as he approaches and whispers " it's proababy wise not to let Runt near the first mate if we want him able to speak... or breathe.. "
The Captain shows up a few seconds later and notices the unconscious first mate in the cell. He turns to Gendan and says, "I assume you were the one who took out and captured the traitor? If that's the case then I congratulate you for a job well done. Are all the prisoners fine? Did anyone give any trouble?"
Elsara will cast a new Detect Magic (not a ritual this time, so ticked a spell slot) and check there isn't anything left on the first mate that is magical, just in case it could be used to aid him escape etc. If they leave him bound and gagged after that, it would be a very slim set of scenarios where the first mate would be capable of escaping.
"I could heal the first mate for interrogation" whispers Val to Elsara in elvish " but I feel that perhaps is good to give our friend some time to calm down..."
Gendan tries not to flinch when Runt punches the cage, then gives the half-Orc ample space to go vent.
To the captain: “Yeah, he cast Fireball on me and the pirate, killing him instantly. Then, he tried to pin it on me and yelled to all the crew. Good thing he can’t tell a lie for shit. Of course, the rest of these half-wits came running instead of watching the rest of the prisoners, as was their charge. We’re lucky there wasn’t a prison break in that time.”
Gendan gives the first mate’s spellbook and arcane focus to Elsara, “I thought you might be interested in these.”
The captain grimaces at the news and says, "That is very unfortunate. Though now it all makes sense. The reason our ruse failed; why our own crew were idiotically firing on our own men; the sudden incompetence that the first mate grew over-night; it all makes sense now. As long as nothing else happens to the First Mate we should be able to gain further information. Good work. We shall interrogate him once we hit port. In the meantime, I believe we are done here. We should set sail and head back. We should also have some of our crew man the other ship." He then addresses the full party and says, "Any of you have sufficient nautical experience or should I get the quartermaster to captain the second ship?"
Also everyone gets 200 XP for the First Mate business.
As for the spell book, Elsara would need more time and resources to copy spells to her own spell book (Normal Rules of spell scribing) but she can tell what spells are on the First Mate's Book.
(Times like these makes me wish I was playing a wizard. Mm~ Such glorious magics!)
A very much out of breathe Devarus is not far behind the captain, but had to spend a good minute just trying to catch his breathe again. "Not unless that second ship needs a cook."Devarus joked, but clearly his heart wasn't fully in it. "One or two of us should still be on the second ship. Though your First Mate has been outed, we cannot be too careful, sir."He stands up straighter. "A job that I would at least volunteer for." Regardless of the answer, the half-elf would try to grab a moment after to at least give Gendan a once over, followed by an approving nod on his way out to prepare for shipping out.
Although tempted on the way to check on Runt, true to his words, he would let her seek him out if she needed it. No need to start turning into a doting... father.. figure. At the thought he grimaces, and promptly shoves aside all thought NOT related to whatever new tasks were set before him!

(Even with a bunch of duplicates, seems like a pretty good haul for Elsara: Fireball, Hold Person, Hideous Laughter, Mage Armor? Now just to earn some gold!)
Gendan says to Elsara, “...and if you don’t want that shiny thing,” pointing to the arcane focus, “Maybe I can get a pretty penny for it.”
”This was my first time at sea, but I’m willing to board any vessel with the Stormchosen. She may be dangerous when she’s angry, but I like her that way.”
"It is settled then." Captain Cerax says, "Devarus, Gendan and Runt will man the other ship with the quartermaster being the captain. I will continue to captain this ship and Valwarin and Elsara will join me. We now set sail for Cosmer."
Monsoon 6 Time: 8: 00 AM
After two more days of sailing, both ships return to the port. The Captain hands each member a small pouch holding 250 Platinum Coins (added to character sheet) and then hands Valwarin a document with the official seal of the Cosmer Coast Guard on it. He says, "That is the mission report for the Guild Master. Be sure to hand it to him or whoever it is that takes mission reports. I will now get to work on interrogating the former first mate." Cerax the walks off into the office as the crew bring the prisoners in. The party is left to their own devices in Cosmer's dock.
What do you guys do now.

Casting Detect Magic, it seems Gendan did a good job of taking anything of value from the Mate. He's probably not going to be escaping any time soon.

Runt may or may not be contemplating singlehandedly ripping the ships main mast down with her bare hands.
