Merrick nods and sways his body in time with the elf's music. He can't help it, the performance is good. Not just good, but excellent. His notes are long and soulful, his delicate fingers play each note perfectly. Duel for honor or not, Merrick recognizes his opponent's true skill. It is not bluster.
"I'll need to change the mood here," he thinks. He puts his fingers to his mouth and emits a shrill whistle, cutting through the market's noise. He plays a chord on the bagpipes and cries out
YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAW!!!
He taps his foot, and plays a catchy, fast paced tune. The melody is simple, but it's unquestionably catchy. People in the marketplace start pumping their fists in time with the music. Merrick uses his arms to push out air from the bagpipes so that he can start to sing, accompanying himself!
He came to town like a midwinter storm! He rode through the field, so handsome and strong!
It would appear that even Muireach’s foot is tapping to beat of the music, but he is not one to be out done. He strikes up his tune once more, starting similar, but slowly growing more and more intense. Like a gentle snow, his melody builds into a blizzard of haunting notes. He reaches the apex of the piece as the tune builds, builds, and then... stops. Performance: 21 Muireach gestures, “You’re better than I gave you credit for. See if you can keep up.”
Merrick is completely swept away by the elf's music. He tries to follow each note, but they surround him like butterflies. He can't keep track, as each note flits around him. When the music stops, Merrick is completely off balance, spellbound. For a moment he forgets where he is, only trying to follow the stream of notes, so completely immersed was he by the piece.
Merrick shakes his head. He's going to have to fight fire with fire. He cannot play common dance music after a piece such as this. Elven music is of a depth and complexity that his normal repertoire would seem shallow. Elven music it is, then!
He takes a deep breath, and plays a haunting elven tune. A song of lost lands and wonder, of great towering spires in hidden forests, of moonlit magic. The Kithkin sways and breathes, and the audience is entranced. The people are transported to a lost city of glittering beauty, a plane of elves and grace, where magic and music are one. Tears shine in the eyes of the listeners, and their hearts soar with longing for this beautiful land.

Muireach looks dumbstruck for a moment as he watches this. “Why are you able to play ‘Leanan Sídhe’ on the bagpipes... How does that... Why... Oh whatever.”
Muireach strikes up his tune once more. It seems to pick up where the last piece left off, as the piece winds and bounces with renewed vigor, like a sleigh riding triumphantly through the storm. It would seem that Muireach has picked up some jauntiness of his own. Performance: 22
As Muireach and Merrick play their songs, a crowd starts to form around them. Soon, other bards are providing the two adventurers with back-up acoustics, drumming, or just dancing to the song. The square seems to be turning into a regular party!
"Erm, quite," Ivsaar nods. He pulls out a small chest and counts out the gold in stacks of 20 until he has 300 gold coins on his desk. "There you are."
Once you have counted and split up your coins, Ivsaar will escort you back to the front of the building. He smiles. "Please let me know if you find any other sacred shrines or any other artifacts. Or if you'd like to embark on an expedition! Thank you kindly, good sirs."

Dyoken stands to leave then pauses, he senses something encouraging him to leave, but he pauses. "Did... you have something specific in mind?" the music from the square pulses faintly even at this distance. "Tell us more." DK feels the pull. "Err... We will go." He says, then starts for the door "We'll, we'll be back" he calls back as he starts for the square.
As he approaches the square he is anxious, something is happening up ahead. He rushes up to find the Ricks in the heat of battle. He leaps over the last row of spectators onto the statue. He turns and looks slowly over the crowd...
Dyoken reaches into his belt pouch and draws his weapon, a simple silver flute. And he picks up the rhythm but changes the tune.
I come from a land up over Where ale does flow and men chunder Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover, yeah
Luthok sits idly by as Dyoken storms out the door. "IMPULSE CONTROL!" He shouts after him as the door closes behind the massive man. He turns back to Ivsaar. "Since I've got nothing better to do right now. Tell me about expeditions, I like options. Retirement is boring sometimes and it's always nice to have the option to do something else if you ever get bored."

Merrick nods his head in appreciation to Muireach's final performance. It was truly beautifully done. He tips his head to the elf. Win or lose, he is honored to have played with a man of such skill and consistency. "I'll need to work harder on my pipes!" he thinks.
As Merrick is about to pick up his pipes, he hears a strong baritone and and an upbeat, rhythmic tempo on the flutes. He turns to see Dyoken with a pitch perfect performance. He is engaging, skilled, and catchy! The young ladies in the group start clapping and whistling, and soon the entire crowd is dancing and singing along to the "man from the land up over". Merrick jumps down, unable to resist, and joins the dance, spinning a lovely gnomish girl in a gingham skirt along to the music.
When the tune is over, Merrick hops back on stage. Now that he has a backup band, he whispers a few quick instructions to them. They start playing a strange beat. Merrick crosses his arms, and squats down. He gestures the gnomish girl and her two friends up the stage, three young ladies in gingham red, blue, and purple skirts.
Dropping the pipes, Merrick starts to dance, his arms crossed, and sings:
Muireach watches all of this with his wintery gaze, sighing with a very small chuckle. He’ll continue his tune, a warming, rustic melody. A time of comfort in a dark season. A warming fire in a home of mirth and joy while storms rage outside. The tune, while still a bit somber, could work excellently for a waltz of some sort.
Merrick picks up his pipes for one last performance. He plays a happy kithkin song, reminiscent of meadows and sunshine, of hearty meals and joie de vivre. A tune of family, rolling green hills, friendship, and optimism. The crowd dances, happy and cheerful on this sunny day.
Ivsaar clucks his tongue as he watches Dyoken run off. "However do you put up with such a man?"
To Luthok's question and possible follow-up questions, Luthok learns the following:
The Archaeological Society is looking for some paid muscle to either escort some of their researchers to potential sites of interest. This would give the adventurers a monetary benefit, but the Archaeological Society will be able to claim any and all treasure within the site. However, for a job done particularly well, there could be bonuses.
While Ivsaar cannot purchase many golden suns from you, he is still interested in acquiring them. He might even be willing to trade artefacts for your golden sun coins.
You could also potentially exchange your golden sun coins for potential services, like having an artefact researched which might yield you lore, unknown abilities, or an offer of purchase for gold coins.
Of course, all initial expeditions would be on a trial basis, and the monetary reward for assisting would be lessened as other guards would be in attendance.
If the crowd wasn't going wild before, they certainly are now! When Dyoken took the stage and strut his stuff, everyone ate it up. There were crying girls. There were flowers being thrown. There may have even been an underpants or two thrown in.
Meanwhile, with Vivi and Seven, no one sees this play out as the crowd grows swallowing the two girls up. (This is just like for you as a player to see what's happening cause WHY NOT?)
"My, my, your friends are having so much fun. Why don't you join in?"Seven teased. She bumped her shoulder into the seemingly younger girl playfully. "You still play, don't you?"
"Uu, I'unno." Vivi shook her head. "I-I-"
"I bet they'd like you better if you let loose a little bit."Seven whispered into Vivi's ear. "They treat you like you are some sort of servant or child."
Vivi's cheeks inflated as she nodded. "They do."
"Well, why not join in?" Seven smirked.
Vivi nodded. The path to escape was set.
Vivi hops onto the base of the statue, pulling her scythe from nothingness. With a flourish, she whirls it so quickly you hardly see how it suddenly became a black acoustic guitar with neon green strings. With her eyes closed, she plays her music. While it isn't as great as the performances that proceeded it, everyone can see her trying quite hard as her entire face is as red as a tomato. The bird bards start dancing and clapping to the music, encouraging others in the audience to join in.
Dyoken isn't able to spot Seven, so he has to try a little harder. Roll perception!

Unaware that Seven has escaped under his clearly watchful eye, Muireach prepares to close this duel. With this finishing blow, Merrick will be crushed into submission. Muireach’s notes are swift and precise, clearly aimed to throw off Merrick’s rhythm. This is... Muireach’s final offensive: 5
