As the group crosses a roadway a group of g nolls approaches from the opposite direction. With little place for the party to hide Dyoken grabs a nearby wagon and with a quick grunt flips it toward him covering the whole of the party, like a man might hide in a box.
As Merrick takes a quick bite out of the mushroom, Luthok nearly suffers a heartattack!! It looks like the deadly runeshroom, one of the most poisonous mushrooms to grow in Asteria. Its symptoms varied from explosive diarrhea to purple, popping pox all over the body. The effect would be instantaneous, allowing the poor kithkin only 3 days to live.
Instead of dying, Merrick just grinned as he felt his tummy feel sated. Merrick knew what kind of mushroom it was now that he ate it. Ah, it was just a northern wickshroom. Rare, but not deadly. Goes nicely in stew as well.
The gnolls were distracted by the parting clouds, indeed blinded by the sun. The gang stealthily moved from behind one alley to another with Mercy waving you forward. That's when DK notices a group of patrolling gnolls and thinks fast!
Just as his yelp is about to grow louder, Mercy throws a gloved hand over his mouth. "Quiet, old man..." A soothing sensation calms his nerves as she pulls him away before the gnolls have a chance to check the area.
Before long, our heroes found themselves outside the old town hall building. Town hall stood two stories tall with a rusted iron fence around it. There are a couple roving warrants of gnolls, and here they saw where the big guys were being kept. Some of the gnolls in these warbands were large monstrosities and it boggled the mind to understand how they got so big or grotesque. The heroes hadn't seen anything like them before.
These brutish gnolls stood easily at 6' minimum. Their eyes had a strange, red glow to them. Even with the rain, you can almost hear their labored breathing as their heads bobbed up and down with every breath. They seemed restrained against their will - like wild beasts being chained down.
Annoyingly two of those things were guarding the gates into the town hall. A march around the perimeter revealed no obvious gaps, just muddy grounds. The roving warband patrols seemed agitated and erratic. Their patrol pattern seems unpredictable.
How will our heroes proceed?

"Um, sorry about him." Dyoken says, "He's real old." He offers in explanation, knowing full well it's no excuse for poor manners.
"There's nothing in there we're meant to protect, right?" Dyoken asks Luthok, "Just be sure you keep your focus." He snaps his fingers in front of Luthok, who's clearly thinking about something else. "We don't want that thing coming for us instead."
"I may be old, but I'm not losing it yet beefcake. I have encountered elemental beings before. I'll be fine controlling it, just don't let anything hit my face and I'll be just fine." Luthok holds the red gem between his thumb and middle finger, ready to flick it at the gnolls with his index finger, taking his time to aim for a few seconds.
Swish! The gem flies through the air and lands in-between the two gnolls. As it lands the gem starts glowing white hot before a burst of flame summons a fire elemental from the Elemental Gem (Red Corundum).
Luthok tosses the gem and as it lands it shatters! A raging fire bursts from the gem's origin nearly consuming the giant gnolls as they raise their heckles and heads. They immediately spot Luthok and gesture toward him with their bared fangs. However, the Fire Elemental interjects between them and Luthok. It surges with power as it becomes a fiery tornado.
It would seem this thing is actually buying you time. Howling can be heard from within the manor. Why don't we roll initiative to make sure we know exactly how this goes down... I will provide an outside map soon (tm)

The Giant Gnoll that was not fought by the elemental roars. It's jagged yellow teeth gleam in the light of the fire. The peanut it has for a brain warns it not to strike at the fiery creature with it's bare claws. Instead, he backs away from the elemental risking attack (to hit: 8, damage: 8 fire) and pulls the longbow off it's back. Merrick considers a moment. It's clear that the gnoll that just fired three arrows is very dangerous. But it's probably better to help the fire elemental finish its target.
