Starker: “I regret to confess that I do not know the Identify spell, nor do I have the 100gp pearl it requires. I will be on the lookout for an opportunity to acquire the one or the orher or both.”
Starker starts to pour over the books, his childlike delight at the prospect of learning something new perhaps hard for some to reconcile with his prior adultlike delight in the thought of using the bucket-o-babies as bait.
“Master Starker, your interpretation of the school of evocation is myopic. I evoke Tyrs blessing to provide his healing powers on you recently. That school is not always used for nefarious means.”
can we have a further description of the Helm? Or does it look fairly common?
while Chadwick is examining the Helm, Kragen will examine the Open Book and the Sword on the table.
The helmet is a piece of armor suited for use with medium or heavy armor. It appears to be well made and in good condition.
The tome on the table is open to a middle page. There is a drawing of a sword on the page that looks very much like the sword on the golden stand. The writing in the book is in elvish.
The table holds a historical tome open to the page describing Wayfinder, the sword resting in the golden rack. It details the enchantments of the sword and the Ranger, Hilaston, who wielded it. The tome is written in Elvish and recounts many histories of the elves in the area. It also tells the story of the Deep Wave Mine and its fall to an orc army aided by forces attacking from the Underdark.
Starker relates that Black Spider’s spell book also discusses the Deep Wave Mine:
“There is a large section discussing the Deep Wave Mine. This details the history of the mine operated by the Brighthammer Clan of dwarves and how successful the mine was. There is a magical forge reported to be present in the mine that makes the crafting of metallic magical items more efficient and the items more powerful. The fall of the mine is discussed at the end of this section. The mine was besieged by an army of orcs on the surface that could not penetrate the defenses. The orc leader made contact with the drow located nearby in the Underdark. A coordinated attack by a drow force in combination with a frontal assault by the orcs overcame the dwarves and the mine fell. The drow force was not heard from again. The orcs occupied the mines for a period of sixty years before abandoning the tunnels for new conquests.”
“Does it provide a location or can we discern an approximate location through battle descriptions, drow and or Orc locations, topography descriptions?”
”this Deep Wave Mine has been a clue as the Stonejaws have communicated they are looking for it.”
“Any additional details, either from the Spiders spell book or this tomb, is important to the group.”
Starker: “The only related text is as I read it out loud a moment ago.
”Do we have reason to believe Iarno Albrek and Black Spider were known to each other or somehow intertwined? Iarno Albrek’s Diary is filled with the day to day minutiae of an ambitious wizard bent on power and domination. He mentions Kelistor’s tower, but it is clearly the tower where we fought our first dragon together. He claims in the 47th passage in his diary to have found the entirety of the map to Illiandil’s Tomb of which map we hold three fragments.
”Nothing related to the Deep Wave Mine, I think.”
Starker will spend time during the next couple of days translating the encoded diary from elvish to common and Iarno’s diary from draconic to common and writing the translations into a book he makes available to everyone.

The two search the chests. No traps are found.
Opening the chest on the left reveals a full helmet. It looks like something that would be worn with heavy armor.
Opening the right chest reveals a collections of books, lying flat.
“Oooh, books!” says Starker, hoping for a spell book or a treatise on mutual annhililation.
Is Starker able to determine what kind of magic the helm radiates?
Evocation.
Did Starker aquire identify and the necessary component for casting it?
"Well done Starker, your prowess with puzzles is impressive!"
"Have you examined the chest of books yet?", "The contents may be more valuable than the armaments."
The right chest contains 8 tomes of notes on magical research. They focus on the schools of Abjuration and Transmutation. All are in good condition.
Starker: “I regret to confess that I do not know the Identify spell, nor do I have the 100gp pearl it requires. I will be on the lookout for an opportunity to acquire the one or the orher or both.”

Chadwick will cast Bless as a second level spell to cover the four people in the vault.
"Welp, let's see what happens if you put it on!" Then he puts on the magical helm.
“Master Starker, your interpretation of the school of evocation is myopic. I evoke Tyrs blessing to provide his healing powers on you recently. That school is not always used for nefarious means.”

Starker is happy to translate the elvish.

Is this information that we (at least generally) already knew? Is there anything we don’t know (like location)?
