The hallway opens up into a 15’ square room with another hall on the opposite wall. The ceiling is about 8 ‘ high. The north hall is secured with vertical iron bars and an iron bar door with a lock.
Looking ahead with their darkvision, the dwarves see the square room in front of you with another set of bars with a door. The door has a lock mechanism that appears to be broken. The hall continues another 20 feet or so and then becomes what looks like a natural cave. You can see humanoids, goblins, moving in the cave. Two are seen. They are armed with clubs and are wearing leather armor with shields lying nearby. Flickering light from torches can be seen from around each corner of the cave shedding dim light. The goblins appear to be playing at some game on the floor of the cave. Their attention is on the dice they are throwing and reacting to the outcomes.
Small folk with keen senses up front quietly convey to the human folk what they see down the hall (goblin lair as documented by Scampus). Suggest that, before using the light cantrip, we setup an ambush for these evil doers.
suggested arrangement to the group: Hoid, Kragen lie in wait in the corners. Chadwick In the middle of the room with the remaining band in positions to attack from the corridor. Once all in position, I light Chadwick’s shield which will alert the goblins and they will move to our position. Chadwick could even feign running away. We spring to action when they are fully in the room.
Instead of letting all of the vermin into the room before springing the trap, how about letting 1-3 in and then attack others as they come through the door? This would prevent them from bringing their entire force into the fight.
I feel good about being bait, I don't sneak very well anyway. Hoid has a good idea, you all stay hidden in first room off to the sides and I'll pull them to you.
I fought these things before back when I was still a cadet in training, they usually go down with one hit. Nasty creatures, but more clever than they look. They've even been known to ride wolves as steeds. Well, at least according to my old sergeant, not sure if he was pulling our legs or not.
Erbert wrinkles up his nose with the smell and then as they are moving forward, he sees the goblins in front of them. He crouches down (he doesn’t have far to go) and says very quietly, “Hey, shouldn’t we look down those other passages before we engage the goblins? I don’t want to have them run up behind us and cut off our escape. While they are occupied, should we have a look really quick?” (He indicates passages C and D)
Gneuman nods in agreement with Erbert's suggestion. "We should make sure not to get surrounded down here. According to Scampus there are more of them than there are of us."
Erbert says quietly “I can put them to sleep, from a distance of around 90 feet away. But anyone else in that room would instantly be alerted to our presence. How about we go back to the beginning and look to the left and the right…”. If the others agree, he turns around and walks back south, looking down the passageway to the west, then the east.
((Set up a marching order in the hall))
The gate door opens with a slow ccccccrrrrreeeeeaaaaakkkk. The hallway beyond is unlit and quiet.
Done. I put short melee up front. Tall people in the back, with Chadwick as rear guard. If anyone disagrees, move yo self.

Hoid moves up to the entrance to the room. Is anything else visible (e.g., beyond the iron bars)?
Is there a light source being used? Or, dark vision.
I don’t recall from our time in Xagag’s dreamland, can any of you create light with magic? If so, I would appreciate it on my sword.
If not,.I have torches and will carry one in my off hand.
I can cast light that has is bright on a 20' radius and dim light for another 20'.
Before i cast the cantrip, what do we see with our Dwarven dark vision?
Chadwick
Since I'll be in the back can I get the light cantrip on my shield as well?

(( Not a solid wall with door, remember. Think like a jail cell bars with door. ))
I marked the map, if folks were at the lettered spots wouldn't they be hidden from the goblins?

/watching for plan
Yes, out of view there.
D is behind a locked door in the bars.

Gneuman listens to his gnomish cousin and nods. “Two paths before us. Attack to surprise and overwhelm, or, scout for more information.”
