"Strange withering rose plant growing where the Fairy would sleep. I am going to check its roots" Amery unsheathes his dagger on his belt and begins cutting into the mattress trying to reveal the roots of the plant growing out of the mattress. He will use the sheet itself as a makeshift glove, so he does not touch the plant directly.
"That makes sense, the house is literally decaying away, " Kit says to Kelgrin, indicating the door.
It's like the forest is forcefully reclaiming this place. Remember how things got emptier the closer we got to the edge of town? I'm actually surprised the fairy was targeted. My first guess would have been Fey. Maybe we're dealing with some kind of druid?
Kit turns to the others with a bit of a smug smile. "Or did you investigators already work that out while you were playing outside?" she says as she gives Omen a playful wink.
Rolled a 22to smell the blood
'Druids preserve life. Making people disappear isn't their MO, generally speaking.'
The kid was onto something. Mindgames and botany were a fey's playground. Necromancy not so much though. Watering the roses with blood to make them red is poppycock. So imagine my suprise when it was a rose. Before any of us could do something it shrivelled up in the sunlight, much like Lulu after a night out on the town.
I'm right here, you know.
'Great.' I pinched my nose. 'Vampire roses. Now I know what to get my ex next time.'
Lulu, any markings outside the house? Something like scratches on the ground or perhaps on the tree bark. Think cat or something similar.
I left the others to their impromptu gardening session to check the rest of the house, see if there was anything to identify the owner with.
Kalgren will go through the hut looking for anything that can serve as identification for the owner, things like correspondence, nametag inside a cloak, etc. If needing a roll: campaign log rolled a 25for Investigation. It's a 24 should it have been a Perception roll.
Omen would glance back towards Kit as she fumed and left. The kenku was left alone, crouching at the edge of the bed with his dagger in hand as he continued to look under the bed...
Amery carefully tries to cut the plant out of the mattress without physically touching the plant. A difficult feat since the thing is covered in prickly thorns. Cutting into the mattress, he manages to pull the plant most of the way out. The plant itself was barely an inch tall, and it's roots about four inches. On the surface, it looks just like an ordinary dead rose plant. (Roll slight of hand.)
Omen bends down to look under the bed, finding nothing but dust.
Looking around outside, Lulu doesn't find much of interest around the building aside from the overgrown house itself. (Investigation check for farther info. Also explain how far around she's looking. Is she just looking around the house's immediate proximity, or is she looking around the property? The house is small, but the garden extends towards the forest.)
Kalgren starts searching the house. Looking inside the small dresser, he finds a jewelry box. Inside is a small heart shaped pendent. Inside the pendent is a small painting of three fairies. It looks to be a man, his wife, and their daughter. Moving out of this room, he makes his back through the living room and through the other door.
Walking through the far doorway takes you into a small side room with a broken hatch that would have led to the cellar if it had not been completely caved in. Turning back to the left, the short hallway would have wrapped back around into the kitchen, but this room has become nothing but a mass of thorny vines and branches. No light shines through the tangled mass. The place is in shambles, but before he leaves, he notices several dark red roses growing on the underside of the vines. He doesn't remember seeing any on the outside of the house.
"I thought the plant was growing down into the floor..." The kenku would grumble as he stood up and made his way back into the main room. he would pause for a moment and pick up the ornate lamp... looking it over as though he were appraising it before moving to the cabinet full of figurines. He would look at each one for a moment.. picking them up and examining then for a short time before placing then back down.
*do I need to roll to determine value and if anything is magical*
Then if there was nothing of interest he would make hisnway towards the vines blocking access to the rest of the house. "Sunlight killed a small flower like that in the bedroom... Maybe if we can get some light in here it can clear a path for usm" The kenku would suggest. "Otherwise I suggest we get cutting." Omen would pull out his shortsword and prepare to cleave his way into the vines if needed.

Lulu would stay around the house but look into anything that would catch her eye. In terms of distance she would definitely not go beyond the 100 feet range for the telepathy on the Find Familiar spell as to not break direct contact. Her passive perception is 13 and the Investigation roll (rolled here because not clickable for the campaign log

Family of three. Hate to think what transpired here. Bigger question: if there is magic here, who cast it? I looked at the pendant. They could be victims. Or maybe mom caught pops taking the wrong flower and cut loose on the magic. Woman scorned and all that. I pocketed the pendant. I just hoped I would merely have to return it and not use it to identify.
'There's a hatch to a cellar but it's caved in.'I informed the others. 'Rest of the room is a botanical garden gone wild. Got more of them roses on it too. If my hunch about them being vampiric flowers is correct, the other side ain't gonna be pretty.'
I stood back to let the bird have first whack at the plants. I reached into my inner pockets. Crystal ball in the left, arcane orb in the right. It was time to roll.
Amery bundles up the withered rose plant in the sheets in case they need to check it later. He then rejoins his companions to hear about the cellar door. "Looks like we are going to need to do some gardening then if we want to find any more clues. Does anyone here have a bigger blade?"
"Nothing special here, but I didn't want to unadvertely walk into something in there... you know like that time at the inn before I had to continue my journey.."
Then Amery calls for help and grabbing his weapon Thar follows Kit.
"Well... we are fighters not gardeners but... let's see what we can do..." he say following her inside.
After examining the figurines, Omen can tell that these are just simple antiques, there are no magical items among them.
Lulu searches around the house, carefully investigating it and it's surroundings as far out as her telepathic link with Kalgrin will allow. However, other than a few more places where thorny vines have grown out of the earth, (Both near the woods and towards the town) she cannot find anything noteworthy.
As the party works together to clear the thorny vines from the kitchen, they soon realize that these are the same vines that grew over the patio. They uncover the broken doorway which would have lead from the kitchen to the patio and garden. As you hack and cut at them, a sticky substance oozes from each wound you inflict on the plant. It takes some effort, but eventually they break through. Sure enough, like the flower in the mattress, as soon as the now fading light touches the red petals, each rose withers and turns to dust. You can now clearly see the ruined, rotting remains of the kitchen and patio, along with a broken table which once had four chairs surrounding. It seems the kitchen of this small house also served as the dining room. As you examine the mess, you notice that the sticky substance is red, and it smells of blood...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
**Omen would pocket a small ornate figurine that looked to be a crow or some kind of black bird.
"Bleeding plants? That's new.." Omen would say in-between deep breaths... exhausted from hacking away at the branches. After catching his breath he would attempt to look around the room for any other signs of evidence as to what caused the plants... if the people living in this house are still alive or if they were kidnapped.. or anything of value or anything that appeared magical.
"Well it is new... I'm not much of a gardener so I don't know much about plants." The kenku would reply with a look of concern "I'm trying to get out out of here as soon as I can... I want to be on out way back before the sun finishes setting..." he would add as he casts a glance towards the setting sun.
"Yeah," Kit responds, clearly in foul mood from the exertion and the layer of sweat and filth she's accumulated both from their journey to the the town and their investigations; but with a quiver of fear underneath it all that Omen would be able to detect.
"I'd rather not be around to find out how feral, bleeding, sun averse, necromantic thorn bushes react at night," she quips with sarcasm born of bravado.
"Blood from plants. Now that is some strange herbology and I don't think the fairy that lived here was cultivating them. What if these plants are feading on what is left of the fairy. Maybe what we are looking at is a predator set loose. Your right Kit, once it becomes nightfall these plants may pose a danger to us. They seem vampiric is some ways" says Amery

'They definitely are.'I replied. 'Traces of necromancy, along with the enchantment and conjuration.'
I released the grip on my holy and arcane instruments. 'So what now? Stake out?'

"Druids preserve nature...not life."
Her voice vibrates with an anger matched by her shaking hands. She turns to leave.
"I'm going to go see what Thar's up to."

(Amery's Slight of Hand is sufficient. He is not pricked by the thorns, and he manages to get the plant out without breaking it.)

"That's new?!?" Kit says as she uses Prestidigitation to clean the blade of her longsword and then her outfit.
"Your gift for understatement knows no limits. How about you take a quick look around and then we get out of here?"
Breathing heavy from exertion, Kit pushes the sweat-dampened hair on her brow away from her eyes and looks for some place to sit down.
