Omen pockets a small figurine of a raven perched on a gnarled tree branch. It appears to have been made of two kinds of obsidian, black and brown.
Looking around the ruins of the kitchen and patio, the kenku is unable to determine anything about the houses former owner. Despite the small figurines and the antique lamps in the previous room, whoever lived here appears to have led a modest life. There is nothing of value left in this area, and there are no magic items present. The only thing Kalgrin can sense is the magic coming from the vines. Though they are overtaking the house, and the garden itself is overgrown, the vines don't appear to have choked out any other plants.
As the group converses with each other, the sun continues to creep towards the horizon, the sky taking on a red hue as it sets.
(Are you planning to stay until dark? Or do you wish to start walking back to the inn?)
"I think it would be in our best interests to leave before nightfall... but it may be in the best interests of the case to see how these plants behave after dark..... From a safe distance like it was mentioned..." Omen would reply as he looks to each of the companions before looking back towards the plants. Assuming there was nothing to find in the kitchen, he would head outside and watch the house.
"I am in agreement with your idea Omen. Let's wait outside for nightfall and see how vampiric these thorny vines are." says Amery as he makes his out of the house and waits 30 ft away from the front yard.
"I don't see why we cannot have a fire going." Omen would reply as he gives Kit a pat on the shoulder. "I don't think we need to stay out here all night. I was thinking just an hour or two before heading back to the inn. We'll be sitting in the warm tavern in no time." The kenku would give Kit a wink and tip his hat before picking up a few broken pieces of door and flooring and walking away from the house. Once he was about 100ft away, he would place the wooden scraps on the ground and work on starting a fire.
"yeah... I figured this was going to be a rough case. That's why I wanted you here with me. I'll admit.. it is getting a bit weird... even weirder than I expected.." He would whisper in return as she lit the fire.
I watched the others start a fire. Good call: keeps the bones warm. Easier to keep going. Or get going if need be. I sauntered up to the flames.
'We might be out here for a while.' I pulled ol' reliable from my inner pocket and took a swing. It tasted like this case was going: about as smooth as a cobblestone road.'So how did all of you get stuck here?'
Something crawled down my spine. Seemed Lulu wanted to share in the warmth.
I don't like the dark, you know that.
I could always turn you into an pseudodragon or something if you're that bothered.
A sharp sting in my side was all the answer I was going to get.
Kit glances at Omen and Thar, decides there's no version of the truth that doesn't tell more than she's willing to say, and settles for the convenient lie.
"The usual I suppose, it sounded like easy money at the time."
"I am looking for my sister Vera. I don't know if she is swept up in this mess or something else happened to her. The Job was a just a way to get me here" says Amery. He looks into the fire remembering the old days when they were just kids.
Kit looks at Amery with new eyes. She's known of him for years of course, but only as a side character in Omen's life. The recurring antagonist in more than a few of his favorite stories. The idea that there is someone he cares about, someone among the missing, suddenly humanizes him in terrible way.
Unconsciously, she reaches over and places a hand on his back.
"I didn't know you had a sister Amery... Do you mean to tell me there is another person like you roaming around this town somewhere?... And I'm going to have to deal with twice the bull crap once we find her safe and sound?!" The kenku would reply with a grin, trying to cheer the man up a bit. Omen and Amery were far from friends, but that didn't mean that he wished any harm on the man of his family. He didn't really believe that his sister was safe, especially after seeing the fairy house... but he could hope.
"It's good that you have people on your life that you care about enough to go looking for. I'm sure your sister would do the same if you had turned up missing as well..." Omen would pause and take off his black top hat, rotating it in his gloved hands. "My list of people I'd go hunting for is short... REALLY short... " He would give Kit a quick look before turning away... "In many ways it's been a good thing over the years... the closer people get to you... the easier it is for them to hurt you." Omen would put his hat on his head and stare into the fire. After clearing his throat he would glance towards Amery once more. "Anyway, once I find your sister for you... I'll give you the credit if you give me your share of the reward." He would add with a beaky smile.
Amery is comforted by Kit and laughs at Omens comment "No my sister Vera is a free-spirited woman and not much by the rules type person. She has a wonderous way of seeing the world and its many possibilities. If we can find my siter I will happily give my share of the reward." His mood has lightened enough for him to look around and remember a possibly deadly plant lingers not too far away.
As the party chats while sitting around a nice campfire, the sun soon disappears below the horizon. The stars shine dully and the moon is but a sliver in the night sky leaving the area extremely dark. That said, those of you without darkvision have a hard time seeing much. Especially after spending time next to the light of the fire.
About a half-hour after darkness sets in, those of you watching immediately notice motion around the house. The vines you cut away from the patio slowly heal their wounds and start growing new tendrils that creep back over the building. The growth is slow, but fast enough to see without staring for to long. After about an hour, dark red buds start to bloom amongst the thorns. A light wind blows, and you all smell the sent of roses. No blood this time. Just roses. But you feel as though you are being watched.
All of you give me a Wisdom save DC 12. If you succeed, then nothing happens. If you fail:
You don't feel like you are being watched anymore. You also no longer think that there is anything strange about the Fairy's house. You don't remember the vines or anything else strange. Why are you waiting here in the dark again? Surely the killer is just among the townsfolk...or maybe some bandits living outside of town?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"You all feel that..." Omen would ask as he looks out towards the fairy house. "Feels like we're being watched..." The kenku would bend over and pull out a hooded lantern from his pack before quickly lighting it with a small flaming stick pulled from the fire. One the lantern was lit, he would adjust the for maximum brightness and take a few steps towards the house. "Are you all seeing this? The vines are growing... The damage we did is gone and there are more vines now..." he would say as he takes a few steps backwards towards his companions.

"Stake out? To see what exactly? If the plants attack us?"
'Curious to see how they behave in the moonlight.' I said. 'From a safe distance naturally.'
I dusted some dirt from my coat. 'It's our only lead so far. Unless you want to do door duty.'

Kit listens to the others before giving a defeated shrug.
"Fine. I'll take middle watch. Can we at least set up a fire or are we determined to be cold as well as tired, bored, and miserable?"
"I don't see why we cannot have a fire going." Omen would reply as he gives Kit a pat on the shoulder. "I don't think we need to stay out here all night. Kit gathers up some more scraps of wood and joins Omen.
"Here, allow me," she says. Kit mumbles an incantation while making a few arcane gestures and a small fire springs up from the wood.
"I'm not going to lie," Kit whispers to the Kenku, "this is turning out to be more than we bargained for and I'm a bit... nervous."
