Instead of resting, Nickeline takes out her crystal ball and attempts to contact Lord Akkron to notify him of their imminent return. If she cannot reach the Broken Lord by scrying, she next tries to contact a priest at the temple of Boccob on the Shaded Isle. If that also does not work, she worries about what will happen if an unexpected dragon teleports onto the island.
She considers another problem: will Cynurrarth fit? Nickeline recalls departing from a basement and passing through many very narrow tunnels to reach the Steelclaw village and Cynurrarth's den. She addresses the dragon: "Hello, um, your dragonliness, it's really great that you want to accompany us. How do you feel about tight spaces? Like, tight for a regular-sized person? Actually, how do you normally get around down here? We need to go that way." She points her finger in the general direction of the teleportation site.
Tamphalic stands up panting, thanking Hildegard for the healing.
"Remind me to not be in the frontline next time we fight" he says before looking at the dragon and saying with a skewed eye "You really couldn't use that breath on only the enemies?"
and finally
"Before we go and meed Lord Akkron, I suggest we have a rest, just in case more cultists are encountered. Also, Cynurrarth, I'm pretty sue that wasn't the last we saw of Zolgu do you know what kind of tricks and items he had up his sleeves. He definitely wasn't an ordinary Kobold."

"You have saved my life, and I am in debt to you for that," his voice rumbles like distant thunder. "Now that I have seen with my own eyes what you face, I cannot allow this corruption to spread... bring me back to your master, the one whom they called the Lord of the Shaded Isle, that I and any of my servants who have survived Zolgu's treachery may join your master in battle against this madness."
Ruby looks a bit sick to her stomach as Cynurrarth has basically just volunteered her for a war, but keeps her little mouth shut as she looks up at the mighty Cynurrarth and sees the determination in the dragon's eyes.
The way Cynurrarth talks about this struggle is eye-opening for Hewelathan. He had mostly been thinking of the adventures since he learned of his belt's curse as a more personal quest to get rid of the curses. They had learned that it was vital to prevent Firion's cult from acquiring the accursed items and using them to restore SSerrah Nightbanes's soul, but he was just focused on accomplishing the next step -- finding passage to the Shaded Isle, getting help from Lord Akkron, acquiring the Luck Blade -- while staying at least one step ahead of Firion's cult. He hadn't really thought of their quest in the context of a greater struggle with "sides."
Hewelathan is starting to realize that they're part of this greater battle against Firion's cult whether they want to be or not. Maybe a key part. And if that's so...
"Thank you, Cynurrarth! I, for one, would certainly be happy to have you on our side," Hewalathan says. (He tries to ignore the unreal feeling that he's experiencing as he realizes that he's talking to a dragon. A dragon ally.)
Jodie bows to the mighty dragon, "It would seem this partnership is going on the road. I must warn you, we carry the heart of the mummy lord in this infernal box. Perhaps there is some lore within your library that may aid us in opening it. But let us take a short respite from that battle, for it was a great victory this day."
(Song of Rest +4 hps; 2 HD: +14 hps)
Jodie searches the cultists and looks to see if the leader also has mithral half-plate to match Korba's.
Hewelathan agrees with Jodie: "Yes, we must rest first." The fight with Zolgu to rescue Cynurrarth was punishing, and they don't know whether they'll face other foes between now and when they get back to Lord Akkron.
Hewelathan also suggests to Jodie that she should show Cynurrarth the books that the party found in the Black Crypt. If Cynurrarth views their rescue as sufficient payment for the earlier bargain, perhaps the dragon would be interested in making a new deal to acquire one or more of those books. For example, maybe he would part with some other treasure from his hoard to acquire them.
"Are Ruby and Gorash coming back to Lord Akkron with us?", Hewelathan asks. He knew that they were coming with us as far as Cynurrarth's lair, and they were critical help in this fight against Zolgu, but he thought that Ruby was planning to return to her village. "The other kobolds may need her wisdom and skill now more than ever after Zolgu's treachery."
Jodie welcomes the rest to recoup (+4 hp for all using a HD from post)
(OOC: Hewelathan seems to benefit from the magic of the dragon lair since he gained +16 HP (in game log) from spending just 2 HD. That plus Jodie's Song of Rest puts him back to his max HP. He also regains 1 use of his Wild Shape from the rest.
@all - Since Hewelathan didn't have to consume any Goodberries to get back to max HP, he still has 8 x 3HP berries and 20 x 2HP berries. I'd suggest that everyone who is injured spends at least 1 HD to benefit from Jodie's Song of Rest, but if you come up just a few HP short of max HP, then don't spend a whole extra HD on healing. Just let me know how many goodberries you need so that I can update his inventory.)
(OOC: Korba spends 1 HD on healing and regains +11 HP (in game log) + 4 HP from Jodie's Song of Rest. That puts him back at his current max HP, which is still elevated by Nickeline's Aid.)
Cynurrarth chuckles when asked about whether he'll fit through the narrow tunnels the kobolds use. He slowly reaches out a massive clawed foot and sets it in front of you. It may take you a moment to see what it is... but embedded in his foot is a huge nail, faintly pulsing with magic.
"Remove this infernal thing," he orders, his voice commanding yet almost gentle. "And when we have rested, you shall see how I move through these tunnels with ease."
The part is free to take a short rest, now under the protection of a dragon.
It isn't difficult for Nickeline to find the Broken Lord by scrying... though you do get the distinct impression that you can only see him because he allows it, and he could easily hide himself if he wanted to.
When you see him, the lich is in some kind of crypt. His face is difficult to read, ever a grinning death's head. But from his posture... his the way he slumps against the stone wall... he almost looks like he is in pain, or perhaps simply lost in haunted memories. In the center of the room is a single little stone coffin. As Nickeline's mind touches the thoughts of the ancient undead, he looks up slowly, his ancient bones creaking. Making that connection... is nearly overwhelming. He is ancient. Powerful. But, perhaps the most apt word to describe his mind is... 'tormented.' You can feel the echoes of many lifetimes worth of suffering and regret through that tenuous connection created by the crystal ball.
He remains motionless, simply waiting for Nickeline to speak into his mind.
Hildegard feels her heart drop into her stomach as Zolgu teleports away. The motionless bodies of the cultists all that is left of his madness. She guides Perdita to land next to the group, and dismounts, her head bowed, disappointed that the kobold got away. "Unfortunate that he escaped," she murmurs, and then lifts her head up. "But the fight against Sserah Nightbane ever grows. I am honored by your support, great Cynurrarth. Let me help you." She walks over to the dragon and mumbles a prayer for protection before gingerly touching the nail, and if nothing else happens, she firmly grasps it and tries to remove it.
Perdita stands quietly, her head bowed, the flames rippling from her mane and tail across her body, healing her wounds. (Perdita spends 6/8 HD to regain 30 HP, putting her just below her max with 65 HP.)
Nickeline freezes for a second when Lord Akkron looks at her through the crystal ball. She isn't used to making eye contact with those she scries upon, let alone with people lacking eyes. She also gets the sense that she is intruding on a private moment, but knows her message is urgent and important; Lord Akkron wouldn't have allowed her scrying, either, if he didn't feel the same way, so she dives into her report: "Ahoy, Lord Akkron, this is Nickeline. I hope this isn't a bad time, but I have some good news: Mission accomplished! We got the magic sword and killed Talice. We also found an evil-looking box with her heart inside. Plus, that deep dragon you warned us about turned out to be pretty cool and wants to meet you. Oh, and there's this mage, Gorash, who might want to meet you also. He led a whole horde of orcs to the underground city to fight Talice's spiders and undead! and he helped us fight some cultists and a very scary kobold named Zolgu. We're not far from the teleportation circle so you can expect us soon."
OOC:
Nickeline would take two 3 HP and six 2 HP berries. Unless we want to take and extra 10–20 minutes to rest, Nickeline won't be able to short rest. She would rather spend the extra 20 minutes traveling, to get Talice's heart to Lord Akkron as quickly as possible. She feels very confident with Cynurrarth and Ruby to guide them through the tunnels, though she might change her tune if she finds out that they won't have an escort across the Shaded Isle.
(OOC: Gorash was down 28 HP. Spending 3 HD healing for 23 HP = (8+3) + (1+3) + (1+3) + 4. Then he'll consume two goodberries for an additional 5 HP = 3+2, which brings him back to his max HP.)
Did Cynurrarth have any answer to Tamphalic's question? Also, have we investigated the cultists bodies for anything usefull yet? If not Tamphalic will:
Investigation: 9 and a ritual casting of detect magic.

Honestly, Cynurrarth probably didn't think much about the strange white kobold until it was too late. And the only thing he learned from his first bout that you didn't already know is that poison seemed to have no effect, likely thanks to a magic item.

Hewelathan happily hands over the goodberries and thanks Nickeline sincerely: "Thank you, Nickeline. Without your and Jodie's healing spells, I don't think that we would have all survived that fight, and we may have failed to stop the cult. Zolgu is a cunning and powerful opponent. I'm sorry that he got away, but the important thing is that we saved Cynurrarth." Hewelathan is starting to realize how critical their allies are to their successes. He specifically thanks Gorash for using his Arcane Ward to protect the druid from Zolgu's magic.
"And thank you, Hewelathan, for healing me now," Nickeline replies. "With any luck, we'll never see Zolgu again, but if we do, we will be better prepared to put a stop to his tomfoolery. If I had reserved the power to Silence him today, I could have saved us from much pain and suffering. But you're right: we got the important things done and that is cause for celebration!"
She also announces that Lord Akkron will be present when the group teleports in. "We shouldn't keep him waiting long, even if he does have all the time in the world."
