Hatt refrains from picking any mushrooms, and instead searches for any kind of tracks or signs that someone passed through here recently: Survival4
(Halfling luck: 22 )
To Ashley, he adds, And I hope his father and his friend are also still alive. I do so wish they had waited for us, instead of rushing off into danger.
Gasp uses his boots to flutter safely above the overly moist ground. Such a bouquet of various odors all over the place that, honestly, Gasp doesn't find altogether entirely unpleasant. That's when they come upon the scene of a struggle. Was it the boy? Maybe his father after having waded into this place?
Gasp will see if he can spot any lingering creatures nearby Perception: 14
Hatt, through the blood and skewered trees, you spot claw marks soaked in blood. Then another, and another, it makes a sort of trail as it goes from tree to tree. Yet it is hard to say what it could be with just the claw markings.
Gasp, there seems to be no lingering creatures. The fighting may have scared the few animals that live in the marshes away. Yet you do sense that some predators are closing into the spot. Perhaps they smell the blood that was recently bled.
I see a trail. I think. I don't know, I'm not very good at wilderness things. At any rate, if no-one has any other ideas... Hatt will indicate the direction of the trail and, if the others agree, will follow it. (He's oblivious to any imminent combat, of course.)
"Enemies about..." Gasp mimics, trying to piece together something comprehensible. "...wilderness things..." The bird flutters above the marsh floor and looks around as he feels the whatever creatures hunt these lands begin to close in.
((So sorry for my absence. On vacation and with the Fourth of July, just haven't had time to post!))
Bennett will follow along silently.
He will inspect the "blood" then the claw markings, he will check to see what could have made the markings: 9.
Upon Gasp's mimic of "Enemies about" he will call his longsword, the appearance that used to be a glowing green longsword now has the appearance of a black, smokey, and broken longsword. Bennett's right eye now, instead of glowing green, is black like a void and has smoke trailing out of it. "Stay sharp."
He will also attempt to perceive the incoming threat: 12
(Sorry for the poor map, couldn't find a marshy water texture.)
Through the marsh, you can see something moving towards you all fast. As it comes closer, it seems like a lizardfolk coming towards you all, with its leathery back and large tail. Yet as it comes closer, it becomes clear that this is bigger than the lizardfolk. Giant alligators are approaching the scene of the struggle.
The alligators approach from deeper waters as they start to come closer to the party's location. They open their massive maws as a loud growl comes from them, hungry for a meal.

(DM, if the signs Hatt and Gasp are picking up indicate a battle may be close, Ashley would precast warding bond on the platinum rings.)
