Bix addressing Glynt, I’m going to follow Ragdor and Xanth, and keep a close distance. I want to be sure nothing sneaks up on them, and f they need help I’ll be at the ready.
"We know the names on the scrolls so there's not much there. I can't help with the Investigation check as I can't read Draconic without ritual castingComprehend Languages which takes 10 mins which might not be a great idea in the middle of a dungeon with an unknown area ahead, if we want to try that we can pull back to a safe space, I could have a look through the Druidic book on Life and Death, an interesting concept they seem to really go for here with Skeleton Gardeners."
( If this is happening/happened while we were checking the room, ie: before opening the door which seems likely, I would still be where I am on the map - at the door with the bow out making sure no one comes through either door ).
"It's the 10 mins I have an issue with ... we don't know what's going on around here so maybe it's best we push on for the time being, unless the "Treasures of the Fire Lords" is going to lead us to a store of magic weapons and items to help us I think we can hold off and check it out next time we are resting."
"I think we should look it over I can search for magical auras once more today if we want. It would only take a moment."
If so, he will use Magic Awareness.
As an action, you can open your awareness to the presence of concentrated magic. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any spell or magic item within 60 ft. of you that isn’t behind total cover. When you sense a spell, you learn which school of magic it belongs to.
"Why doesn't Erky just read the book? He can read draconic. If it's heavily magical he'll know he needs to Detect Magic or Identify it which he can do later, but if it's just words he can read them and we'll know what it's about and can move on with no delays."
ERKY will look at XANTH and GLYNT, then open the tome with a blank first page. When he turns the second page the tome erupts and explodes.
From the adventure:
Treasures of the Fire Lords has a glyph of warding spell with an explosive runes effect on it. The glyph is on the second page, and it’s triggered when someone opens to that page.
If the glyph is triggered, it erupts with magical energy in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on the book. The sphere spreads around corners. Each creature in the area must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 22 (5d8) cold damage on a failed saving throw, or half as much damage on a successful one. The cold doesn’t damage the other works here.
(I will give Glynt and additional +2 on his save for partial cover at the door. Bix was watching the other door and was too far away to be affected.)
Xanth will also head into the room.
Bix addressing Glynt, I’m going to follow Ragdor and Xanth, and keep a close distance. I want to be sure nothing sneaks up on them, and f they need help I’ll be at the ready.
"Did the books and scrolls hint at what has been going on down here?"
(Treasures of the Fire Lords)
(Before moving into the next room, do you look more thoroughly through the books and scrolls? And if so, who does the "INVESTIGATION"?)
"We know the names on the scrolls so there's not much there. "Erky you speak Draconic right? Shall we take a moment it could be helpful?"
(To confirm, the party is in the office and Erky will read the book in Draconian?)
( If this is happening/happened while we were checking the room, ie: before opening the door which seems likely, I would still be where I am on the map - at the door with the bow out making sure no one comes through either door ).
ERKY will say, “I would like to Detect Magic first. Or should we press on and come back to this later. That is if we are still alive later.”
(Detect Magic would take ten minute, plus time afterwards.)
"It's the 10 mins I have an issue with ... we don't know what's going on around here so maybe it's best we push on for the time being, unless the "Treasures of the Fire Lords" is going to lead us to a store of magic weapons and items to help us I think we can hold off and check it out next time we are resting."
aye, I'm good with moving on. Xanth?
"I think we should look it over I can search for magical auras once more today if we want. It would only take a moment."

XANTH will determine that in addition to the two magic scrolls, the tome Treasures of the Fire Lord radiates magic.
"The tome is indeed magical."
(Ooooh! What secrets could be within it? Do you want ERKY to read it?)
(I moved tokens back to the previous locations. Please adjust your tokens if you need to.)
( I am where I am - map location is right)
Can we Identify? Could it be a tome of ability advancement? Xanth cannot really help with that.
(Erky can use a ritual to cast Identify. Again, that would take ten minutes.)
"Why doesn't Erky just read the book? He can read draconic.
