Amiz frowns "Anything involving Sanford is trouble. Perhaps we should get some rest outside and wait for the Sending Stone to recharge to notify the others. We might be pressed for time to stop whatever is happening in the Underdark" He looks at the fish people and says "Don't worry we won't harm you. You can go"
Valar nods in agreement, "Rest would be good, but should we not bring the axe as we promised, then we can go after Sanford and his friends."
"We have a chance of going after them sooner rather than later. I am afraid if we wait until we head back to town then another day of resting then the trek back would leave Sanford plenty of time to create all sorts of trouble. I am thinking we can speak with them again for them to come pick it up or for a place we can leave it nearby, but if the party wishes to travel back to town, then I will agree with going back" says Amiz.
In regard to ascending the vertical shaft I agree with Draiocht to become a large spider and spin rope or spidery ladder to the top floor.
Ok so with no threats left in the mine, you can use the spider trick to slowly make your way back up the shaft. The Kuo Toa seem reluctant at first but acquiesce when they realise it's their only way out.
You all get back to the top of the mine where you can easily set up another camp to have a rest. Before you do, Tooluuga looks around and turns to you, slightly confused, "Which way we go? Are there more Kuo Toa up here? Or someplace with water, a lake?"
Draíocht think on how safe the Greyfens may be. (IIRC fens are marshy areas.) History: 18+1+4 = 23
"Not much of your kind Westward." says Draíocht. "But perhaps we could find a suitable lake. Where did you come from that were in that cave?"he asks, wondering what such exotic creatures were doing. Perhaps further conflict even beyond Kholias?
Draíocht would know that the Greyfens are full of halflings, similar to the one you met travelling with Liarona, Erret Stonefoot. Halflings are aloof and somewhat insular but often will share their space with monstrous races. The only other thing you know about the Greyfens is that it is somewhat infested with were-creatures, so much so that there is a constant bounty for them that can be reclaimed at Luethanos Pass. The Greyfens would also surely have lot's of marshes, perhaps not lakes, but good enough for these fish creatures for the moment.
Tooluuga responds to your question on the Underdark, "We come from Gloogluglogg, a lake in the Underdark, near Kholias. All of the Kuo Toa moved away. Elves set up camp near lake, they look down on Kuo Toa. Elves say they take back Kholias when they ready. Also, evils come from Kholias down to the lake. It's rotten now, we leave too."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thelanis is put off by the strange creatures, and tries avoiding the conversation with them, instead spending way too much time finding and preparing an optimal site to pitch tents and spend the night.

Draíocht considers what he knows. "I know of a place." he says, "Perhaps if you help us we could help you?" He turns to the others to see if they appear to have any thought on the matter.
Assuming a go-ahead
"Having maps of Gloogluglogg and the underdark would be of a great help to us. Plus tales of the evils that came to your lake. In exchange, I know of a place with lots of marshland. Not as glamorous as a lake, but good enough. Filled with halflings who can be quite friendly. Just need to beware of some werecreatures."
Tooluuga will happily provide you with a map of Gloogluglogg and surrounds (Coming Soon). He then goes on to tell you of the horrors drifting down to the lake form Kholias, "One eyed terrors with purple skin prowl the shore. Tentacles horrors invading the water. Talk of a floating many eyed creature taking up residence in a cave on the eastern cliffs of the lake. A constant madness that circles your mind."
When you describe the Greyfens to the fish-folk, they seem agreeable, perhaps simply to have a plan. "Thank you all. We will go now, find new home. We will be careful of were-creatures, but we are used to worse." If no one objects the Kuo-Toa leave.
Due to Thelanis' thorough preperation, you encounter no random encounters overnight, with the undead threat in the mine nuetralised you enjoy a reasonably peaceful night's sleep. You can all mark off a Long Rest.
Do any of you share any campfire tales in the evening? Any thoughts on current events or how they might relate to your pasts?
Additionally, somewhat will have to form a 25 word message to send to Liarona if you wish to get their input on your next moves. At the moment they know you have the axe, but I don't think much else.
Before trancing, Draíocht casts his remaining spell slots on goodberry.
With the Grey Fens on his mind, a possible campfire story Draíocht might tell is of a halfling friend he made a few decades back. Cheery fellow, good company. And he wasn't quite sure if that halfling truly had wrestled with a giant toad as he claimed. Might've been crazy enough to do it and lucky enough to get away alive.
Message "Got Greataxe, but trouble brewing in underground church. Is there place near mine to drop off axe. Fear wasting time heading back to town" says Amiz
After a couple of minutes you get a message back, the voice you hear is not Liarona's, but her companion, Prince Lukian. "My people are in the Underdark, drop the axe to them. Their camp is near Kuo-Toa lake. Any trouble in Underdark also effects them too."
Valar nods in agreement, "Rest would be good, but should we not bring the axe as we promised, then we can go after Sanford and his friends."

Valar appreciates the efforts and thanks for a well-placed camp and the excellent rest recieved
Amiz will take a shift at watch and then doff his armor for a good night sleep.

You wake up in the morning after a Long Rest refreshed and ready to depart. Were you still going to send a 25 word message to Liarona?
Otherwise you'll have to work out where you're going: Back into the mine? Back to Erithon? Or onto Kholias?
Valar states, "We should inform them of our status before we move on, don't you think?"
As you can only send 25 words a day, the exact phrasing of what you tell them is important.

Valar muses, "Friends in the underdark, perhaps a base we can operate from and a safe haven?"
"That is what it sounds like. Is everyone ready to head back down?" says Amiz
