Steel is battered, but still functioning, though he can't take much more of that abuse. She has Steel attack prioritizing #4, while she does the same with her shots, switching to #1 when #4 drops.
The quagooth recoils at both of Cantis arrows and then one arrow from Pisgah hit it with force. It is about to retaliate, but is cut short by ArdneK suddenly appearing in-between Steel and Pisgah, delivering a fatal blow.
Because ArdneKs second swipe misses on the second quaggoth (1), it tries to swipe at the kobold: Opportunity attack: 7 But the little rogue is way too quick and gets to safety behind his allies.
Steel and Rico unleash a veritable barrage of strikes and shots at 1, but despite grievous injuries, it manages to keep standing.
The quaggoth that was pounding at the door comes rushing around the corner, standing over the fallen body of 4, going straight for Pisgah with a flurry of claws. Attack 1: 8 Attack 2: 9
The door that had been knocked on slams open and a drow (D) in a flowing robe rushes out, a staff raised. He curses under his breath, unleashing a spell at ArdneK, Pisgah and Steel. Black tentacles erupt from the ground, covering the area they are standing on. Strength Save DC 12; on a failure, you are restrained and take 7 bludgeoning damage. If you are restrained, you remain so until the end of the spell, but you can attempt a Strength (Athletics) check (DC 12) to free yourself.
At almost the same time, more quaggoths (5, 6, 7) rush out of the passage to the north, their claws extended. They're dashing towards Rico and Canti.
And since the tooltip seems to refer to the 2014 version of black tentacles, please be aware that it's the 2024 version, which requires an immediate saving throw.
The enraged Pisgah easily snaps the tentacles beginning to wrap around his legs as he snaps the Greatsword down on the head of number 1, Attack 1: 20 to hit, damage 12 (with +2 damage from rage) and then slams the sword to his left, across the neck of number 2, Attack 2: 16 to hit, damage 13 (with +2 damage from rage).
Assuming that number 1 goes down, Pisgah will move around number 2 and position himself on the south side of number 2 so that Steel or ArdneK can gain advantage and to be a shield against the incoming Drow.
Pisgah will use his tail swipe reaction at the first successful attack to boost his AC by 3 to 18 for that attack.
Hearing the newcomers, Canti moves five feet south, aims for the first (5), and fires two arrows.
Attack: 12
I'll assume that misses, so using her bonus action, Curving Shot on 6: 21, Damage: 11, and its speed is reduced by 10 ft. until Canti's next turn (weapon mastery)
Attack: Nat 1
Action surge!
Attack (still on 5): 12
Attack: Another nat 1
You're not the only one rolling badly, Preyfire.
Canti moves the remainder of her 30 feet northwest.
Rico comments to herself, "This is not looking good..."
Thinking that Steel is not likely to last long, Rico instructs him to repair himself and to protect the others using his Deflect Attack ability. Meanwhile, she takes one step forward (down to the right) to block the newcomers from reaching anyone else. She takes a couple of shots at the one in the lead (#5), then switches form her pistol to her sword as she prepares to enter melee for the first time since she entered the dungeon. She stands ready to receive the attack with sword and shield at the ready.
[I'm glad her level up restored he melee combat abilities, which she dropped to carry more since she hadn't been using it. Although she fights back rank, she's actually a decent front line fighter as well]]
[At least Rico is rolling well, some compensation for the others bad rolls.]
As flames writhe up from the ground beneath the drows feet, he tries to dodge [Dex Save: 19] and gets halfway to safety, but his coat still catches on fire. He manages to stamp on it and also keep concentrating on the summoned tentacles [Con Save: 16]. The drow is then harried by two eldritch blasts from the kobold, which he deflects by throwing up a deflecting shield of pure energy.
At the same time, Pisgah fells the quaggoth (1) with a strong slash and catches the second one (2) as well.
In the back ranks, one of Cantis arrows hits a newly emerged quaggoth (6), but the others miss their targets in the chaos. She extends the distance between her and the enemies significantly by retreating.
Ricos shots almost lays 5 out flat, but it rushes on with a suppressed despite its injuries. In fact, it gets more aggressive, heedlessly throwing itself into the fray.
5 and 6 (with 6 just barely making it with its reduced movement speed), get into direct conflict with Rico, slashing at her furiously. The quaggoth in the back picks up rocks to throw at the autognome. Quaggoth 5, Attack 1 (Advantage due to Wounded Fury): 21/11, Damage: 4 slashing Quaggoth 5, Attack 2 (Advantage due to Wounded Fury): 24/Nat1, Damage: 9 slashing Quaggoth 6, Attack 1: 20, Damage: 6 slashing Quaggoth 6, Attack 2: Nat 20, Damage: 10 slashing Quaggoth 7, Attack 1 (stone): Nat 20, Damage: 7 bludgeoning Quaggoth 7, Attack 2 (stone): 9
The quaggoth hacks at Pisgah, trying to stop the genasi from advancing on the drow. Quaggoth 2, Attack 1 (Disadvantage due to Deflect Attack from Steel): 8 Quaggoth 2, Attack 2: 16, but the attack is blocked by Pisgahs tail swipe
Finally, the drow keeps his tentacle summoning ritual going. In addition, he raises his hand, shouts an incantation and then brandishes an outstretched finger towards Steel and ArdneK, unleashing a thunderous explosion of lightning. It stretches out into the hallway, impacting right where Rico was a moment before. [Dexterity Save DC 12 or take 37 lightning damage, half on a success. Remember that due to being restrained by the tentacles, you have disadvantage on that check.]
The drow then moves east, so as to be out of sight for most of the party.
[If ArdneK and Steel end their turn in the tentacles, they take an additional 9 bludgeoning damage. You can take an action to make an Athletics check against DC 12, ending the restrained condition on yourself on a success.]
Initiative: 1. Rico/Steel and ArdneK < YOUR TURN 2. Quaggoths (2 (injured), 5 (heavily injured), 6 (injured), 7) 3. Drow Mage (D) 3. Pisgah and Canti < YOUR TURN
[The Drows position is where he ended his turn, but he moved to the origin point of the lightning bolt line to cast the spell first.]
Seeing the attack unleash on Steel and ArdneK and enemies closing in on Rico, Pisgah knows he has to end this quickly. Pisgah swings in a Reckless Attack with Big Bart at #2.
Attack 1: to hit 21 for 14 slashing damage
Attack 2: to hit 20 for 12 slashing damage
IF the Quaggoth goes down after the first attack then Pisgah will move to the Drow, positioning himself between it and the hallway, and make the second attack but instead of using the Greatsword will use the tail swipe. The damage would be 11 points of piercing damage (magical) instead of 12 slashing but counts as a magical attack. If the drow attacks, Pisgah will use his reaction to make a tail swipe and increase his AC by 4 to 19.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rico uses her flash of Genius to give Steel a +5 to his saving throw, allowing the construct to dodge some of the effect of the bolt that would have otherwise destroyed him.
Then thinking that she might not stay functioning for much longer herself, she gives more instructions to Steel, telling him to break free of the tentacles, then repair himself, then follow the instructions of their teammates. She also tells him to repair her after the fight if she isn't functioning.
Rico is becoming well aware that she isn't a full healer like a cleric. She can patch the team up after a fight, but she can't do much while she is fighting. And it's obvious that pausing in the fight to heal would not come close to keeping up with the damage coming in. So the best she can do is try to take them down before they take her down! She's aiming to take them down as quickly as possible, so she aim at the most damaged and change targets when that one goes down.
[Note for ArdneK: Uncanny Dodge only works on attack rolls, not saving throws. Evasion, on the other hand will help with dex saves, but ArdneK would have to have another level in rogue for that. So he would still take 18 lightning damage in this instance.] [Note for Rico: Flash of Genius can normally only be used once per check, because it requires a reaction to activate, but I'm fine with it this time, since you've still expended the resources.]
Pisgah strikes twice at the quaggoth (2), felling it with the second blow. Afterwards, he is able to position himself towards the drow. ArdneK, having freed himself, also rushes up to the spellcaster.
Back in the cave system, Cantis first arrow sends one quaggoth (5) tumbling dead to the floor. The second arrow also finds its target (6).
Rico is now in a brutal melee with the remaining quaggoths, managing to slash at one, staining its fur red. Its eyes widen in response, a gurgling roar emerging from its throat. Despite being close to death, it seems to call upon an unnatural frenzy.
Steel rips himself out of the tentacles, stumbling free.
The two remaining quaggoths are upon Rico, one of them fuming with rage. They mercilessly fall upon the autognome, but most of their attacks get deflected by her armor: Quaggoth 6, Attack 1 (Advantage due to Wounded Fury): 24 /24, Damage: 9 slashing Quaggoth 6, Attack 2 (Advantage due to Wounded Fury): 13 /7, Damage: 4 slashing Quaggoth 7, Attack 1: 14, Damage: 8 slashing Quaggoth 7, Attack 2: Nat 1
As a response to everyone freeing themselves and ArdneK and Pisgah getting too close, the mage relinquishes control of the tentacles and casts another spell. This time, he becomes invisible as a result.
He pushes open the door he had emerged from and you hear him rushing to the opposite side of the room.
Inside of the room, you see sparkling veins of gold striping across the floor. Currently four troglodytes are busy swinging pickaxes at these veins. The drow roars a command at them, which causes them to turns hesitantly towards Pisgah, ArdneK and Steel. The ceiling of this room is covered in thick spiderwebs, which makes it impossible to see how high it is.
There are two doors here, one south and one to the west. You're sure that the invisible drow is standing next to the western one, breathing heavily.
Initiative: 1. Rico/Steel and ArdneK < YOUR TURN 2. Quaggoths (6 (heavily injured), 7) 3. Drow Mage (D) 4. Troglodytes 5. Pisgah and Canti < YOUR TURN
[Due to the circumstances, you're sure where the drow is, so he can be targeted with disadvantage.]
Canti feels a little better after actually hitting something with her last two arrows. But she's growing concerned for Rico. The fleshy gnome fires two more arrows and moves forward a little.
At 6 or 7 if 6 falls ...
Attack: 27, damage: 9, -10ft movement
Attack: 14, damage: 12, -10ft movement (not stackable)
If the 14 misses, using curving shot to hit 7:
If 6 is already down, then the curving shot can't be used, but if 6 and 7 are still up ...
Attack: 29, damage: 8
Using piercer feat to reroll that damage: 12, -10ft movement (not stackable)
(Having to do this on my phone so hopefully it all comes through okay)
Seeing the drow turn invisible Pisgah immediately slashes at the space the drow occupied as he tries to leave melee range. Attack of Opportunity (at Disadvantage): 13 to hit for 13 damage
He then drops his rage and hearing the invisible drow issue a command, casts Faerie Fire into the room. The spell fills the 20ft cube shaped room perfectly and catches all but T4. All others will have to save on a DEX 13 saving throw or be outlined in a glowing purplish light.
Pisgah stays where he is to give some cover and protection for ArdneK and Steel.
