Sable was wondering if they would avoid the wolves or kill them. While dangerous, they weren't monsters. But when they started running toward the group, that decided their fate...
Sable gets out her short bow, ready to start shooting them once they get within long range (320'), Though that will take a while, so she looks to see if there's a tree she can climb to get out of their reach.
There is no vegetation for a far as you can see.

That works for Sable, she can hide behind the darkness, pop out to shoot with surprise, then hide behind the darkness again. That will make her long range sniping more effective. Wouldn't expect it to slow down the wolves at all, since they'd just go around to where we're hiding on the far side.
"I can lay ssome thorny ground cover as a ssuprise for those that choosse to enter the dark, but I wouldn't ssuggesst moving about if I do." (Spike Growth) Ulysse's voice is shaking as he speaks, clearly uncomfortable not being able to see (he's scared of the dark). "Are they closse?"
"They are still quite far away. I'll tell you when they get close. And spike growth in the darkness would be good. Just get behind the darkness about 30 feet and be prepared to blast anything that gets through."
"I was thinking to casst it around us sso if the wolvess want to get to uss, they will be torn up a bit to do it, and we could shoot at them from within the thorns. As long as we don't move about, they won't hurt uss." Ulysse points out
Erzer, with the casting of darkness, the wolves slow to a halt, seemingly caught off guard by the sphere of eldritch shadow where you just were. They look wary.

"They've stopped. They seem wary of the darkness. I'm sure it's rare for them to be unable to see in the dark. I love magic." Erzer says with a slight skeletal grin.
"What are they doing? Perhaps we shot atvthem though the darkness to scare them off? They seem like reasonable creatures. " Ulysse is prepared to throw some fire though the cloud of darkness.

(How many do they see? Perception 7 if needed)
Erzer would cast Darkness using two sorc. points and direct everyone to hide behind it.

So you cast Darkness, cutting off your view of the wolves.

I can see through it with eyes of the dark.

Sable seems a little disappointed. Still, these were wolves, not monsters, so she doesn't feel compelled to follow them.
Ulysse let's out a sigh of relief, "And we have you to thank Erzer. Quick thinking led to everyone walking away from both ssidess peaccefully. "
*Erzer keeps the sphere of darkness up until the wolves are out of sight.
