"There is a rumor of an empire, ancient and lost to time. An empire ruled by three perfect women who could never do wrong, and who would never die. And though they were beautiful, ageless, and merciful, the kingdom that grew around the Triarchy was the most monstrous yet made. A tyranny of torture and pain that could never end while the three immortal sisters lay at its center like pearls in a poisoned shell. Until one day, it did. The women disappeared and were never seen again. The Empire slowly faded and fell, leaving only a memory, like a nightmare recalled at dawn."
Hi everyone! I'm Crispy.
I'm forming a list for players interested in playing Maze of the Blue Medusa. DISCLAIMER: This adventure is a HARDCORE DIFFICULT DUNGEON ROMP full of horrible tricks, traps, and monsters. What's more disturbing is what lies within, should you survive. This adventure will be presented room by room until no one is left alive. If you're someone who's looking for a challenge, ready to solve puzzles, and not afraid to die, then this adventure may be for you! We will start at level 1, and work our way up until no one is left.
If you're brave enough to give this a try, go ahead and post your character concept in the thread. No homebrew stuff, just classic 5e material. We will begin the adventure JULY 6th, FRIDAY NIGHT, if we have a good turnout so if you've been chosen, i'll send you the campaign link by then.
NOTE: Standard Array for stats, and yes, there will be content sharing.
Adventurers have discovered the entrance to the maze. Are you brave enough to discover what lies inside?
Percival Blunt is a Human Warlock from a noble family. Being the sixth child of a wealthy lord, Percy did not receive much attention from his father, whose eye was focused on his elder brothers as they constantly vied for his favor, especially as he began to get up there in years. Desperate to gain his father's approval, or at least some acknowledgement that he even exists, Percival tried to master a skill in the hopes that his father might notice him. Unfortunately, he would fail at trying to learn these skills and began to give up on the idea of gaining his father's approval. Until one night where he prayed to any deity or higher being that would listen to him and asked that they would grant him some ability to win the approval of his father. As he slept, he was contacted by what seemed to be a massive shadow that told Percival that if he would enter into a pact with this being, he would have all the power he could ask for. And so Percival did.
The next morning, Percival not only woke up with a sword next to him, but the knowledge and ability to use it, as well as a talent for the arcane that he had not possessed before. When he heard of a mysterious maze with ancient secrets held inside, he knew that this was a way for him to prove himself.
I have a Deep Gnome, Rogue level 1, Archeologist that if he stay alive could become Arcane Trickster. (Stats made with Standard Array)
Goggick lived in Blingdenston for all his life, working in his family business, modest stonecutter. As a young gnome, he grew bored of this life and was looking for something more exciting than cutting agates and rubis. One day in a market, an old Gnome gave him a old book, describing mysteries, treasures, an old civilization, dungeons, heroes. This was the life he wanted to live. He joined a club of archeologist, "The Underdark Treasure Hunter" and studied long hours... A couple of week ago, he made a breakthrough... he has finally localize the entrance of of long forgotten civilization.. He will be rich, he will be famous !!
I would love to be part of this!! I’d love to get in on a game where death is more of a possibility.
I am Dundur Frostbeard, of the mighty Frostbeard clan of the snow capped mountains to the north. We are a clan of dwarves warriors that have gained our riches in the protection of barons and nobles throughout the land. My fighting discipline is that of dueling. I am hard to hit and can hit hard. It is now my time to leave the security of our mountain home and venture out to gather riches and grow my renoun.
I arrive at the gates of the maze. A maul in one hand and a shield in the other with my clans insignia proudly presented on the front. A cross bow hangs from my belt as well as a dagger with a dark metal handle. My heavy chain mail armor, covering my common brown clothing, gleens a bronze shine in the sun. I look around at the others at the gate sizing up the other adventurers ready to journey inside to the unknown. My white beard and hair flows in the wind.
Well I don't mind the hardcore difficulty, death is what makes adventuring exiting, and I'd love to get a chance to use this character, I don't min/max, this may be a disadvantage for myself here tho.
Kenku Monk
Survivor from a nest made in the wrong place, his tribe decided to make nest in a place they didn't knew an ancient red would land in.
When all were called to fight, he decided to just run away... He regrets not joining the party, but he had little knowledge on how to fight at the time as still just a chick at 10years.
For 3 years he just ran surviviong of berries, insects and other things in the wild, but he found a monestary and started mimicing their skills.
After a time the monks noticed him and allowed him to join, he was able to beat some low to mid knowledge monks, this temple's master told him to seek the world and journey to learn more, so he did. Now he keeps training as a ritual.
He has now found this maze, a new learning place, joining other adventurers he goes in.
Edit: Was going to post other character but that would fit better to a RP heavy option, this fits better for a maze one
Jax, female tabaxi bard with a criminal background.
A life of exploration is all she's after. Jax is drawn to everything that she has yet not seen, her claws itching to leave no stone untouched once she moves on.
Born and raised in a mercenary company, Jo's path had always been clear. But that all changed when the entire company was obliterated including his parents; Jo only surviving by being knocked out in the original blasts and then buried under a pile of his friends corpses. Now broken and without purpose the large Dragonborn roams the land taking any job that others refuse, silently hoping that each will be his last. Now facing the entrance to the maze, he's ready for the end. But he will take as many with him as he can.
(Read through the earlier characters and lucky coincidence but maybe could be connected to Alira's story #7)
THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH for everyone who applied. This thread is now closed. We will begin Friday night, so look for the first actual gameplay post then. GOOD LUCK!
An adventure beyond our reality, beyond space and time beginning Friday, July 6
SOME GROUND RULES:
1. This adventure is HARD. I'm not even kidding. The maze will try and kill you. You will be tested and it's likely you won't survive. This is the disclaimer. You have been warned. 2. This adventure is unlike anything you've played before. It involves creatures beyond comprehension, and doesn't take place in our reality, so lots of things won't make sense. Be open minded and prepare for some weird stuff. 3. This adventure will be presented room by room. You can interact with anything I present, or you can move on to the next room, there are over 300 rooms in this campaign. Between each room there is a chance for a random encounter. You are not the only things in the Maze, and most of them won't like you intruding. 4. At the bottom of each post I make, I will be keeping track of things like where you are, how much food you have left, and how much gold you've accumulated in your exploration. Why? Because if you run out of food, you all die. You level in this game based on how much gold or items (worth gold) you've accumulated. There are no milestones. The more gold you find, the more powerful you become. I will decide the threshold of gold per level by Friday. 5. If you die for any reason, you're out of the game. You can continue to read the posts, but you cannot contribute. We stop when everyone but one has died. Who will outlast everyone else? 6. Anytime I roll a nat20 against you, something terrible will happen. Likewise, when a player rolls a nat20 something amazing will happen. I will decide what happens based on the situation, but I can promise you it will be either awful, or amazing. 7. This is a game. Have fun and ask questions. My #1 rule is to have fun, and role-play your hearts out. If you're not having fun, or have another issue, please PM me and lets talk. 8. Participation. You must post at least once a day, and be active. Some choices need to be made and if I don't hear from you after a day, we will move on without you. Always let me know if you can't post so I know you didn't just go AWOL.
Our story begins with a legend from when the universe was young.
Once, there was an empire ruled by three perfect women. One time would not touch - she would never age or die. One was loved - everyone who met her eyes would want nobody else. And one stopped harm - no one who kissed her could hurt another being.
Perfection drives man mad. Beyond its inner court, the Empire was murderous, evil, and insane, but the sisters at its heart would never age or no one who met them would, or could, ever do them harm. The Empire could not end, only change hands. And so the world was doomed.
The sisters lived a cosseted, disconnected existence, almost unaware of the horror that occurred outside of their direct presence. Blind, protected, puppet Queens of a nightmare realm. Until, one day, three treasonous ministers - with rather mixed motives - devised a plan. They would take the sisters to the Maze of the Blue Medusa.
The Medusa, Psathyrella, was eons old even so long ago. Immortal, clever, cold-hearted, and almost without fear, she could keep the sisters prisoner without being seduced by their various perfection.
The Maze of the Medusa - where she held immortal threats in forms of stone - was lost, broken from reality and time, near impossible to find, and, if found, still harder to survive. The plan succeeded: the three sisters, and their three treasonous ministers, disappeared.
The Empire fell and is now little more than legend, a dark mark on the memory of mankind. The Maze of the Blue Medusa? Lost.
Until today.
TODAY
It all began with the dreams.
They were hard to describe. Perhaps..visions? When you slept, you saw a painting. The painting contained a woman in chains, begging for your help. As hard as you tried, you are unable to either explain, nor rid your sleep of the dreams. Eventually, you met others who were also having the same dream. Through a series of questioning, sacrifice, and travels, you were able to locate an art museum where the actual painting was, and it changed your life forever. Looking at it, you felt a sense of wonder, and fear, for it was unlike anything you have ever seen before in your life before. It was almost as if it was not from your reality, nor conform to any known laws of nature.
Views on art change, but opinions of this painting never do. In every age these qualities hold: valuable, shamefully perverse, mildly significant, and not very good. No one thinks deeply on it, but the title of this painting is called FALSE CHANTERELLE. In your dreams, you were told to take it, to steal it. Hang it on the north wall of a moonlit room.
Obviously, the museum wouldn't let you walk out with it, but you managed to do it. You managed to steal it. Now the next thing was to find a moonlit room. That was easy. In your travels you knew of a tavern who's upper floor was positioned perfectly to allow the moonlight into the room. You hang the painting on the north wall, and wait for night. A group of adventurers standing upstairs looking at a painting, waiting for evening.
If Percival didn't already make contact with his shadowy patron in the night, he would've thought that he was going mad. He had actually stolen a painting from a museum because a woman in a dream told him to. And it wasn't even a good painting. It looked like something some deviant would enjoy.
"This better be worth it. We went through a significant amount of trouble in stealing this godawful painting, I'd rather it not be for nothing."
”Obviously this painting has to be something special. For everyone to get the same visions.... for everyone to have the same feelings...” A dwarf of white hair and beard stands among the group, heavily armored. “I have no doubt something special will happen when the moonbeam strikes the canvass...” I look around at the others to gauge thier enthusiasm for what tonight will bring. What the future holds...
A very tall dragonborn leans against the wall at the back, his hands and chin resting on the pommel of his greatsword. One of his eyes looks at painting, glazed over. The other stares blankly forward out from a mass of scars that run down the right side of his face from brow to jawline. His white scales are covered in dirt, the blue trims all but hidden.
"Well this is a waste of time. Anyone want to go downstairs and start a barrel? Might as well get drunk while we wait for nothing to happen"
Alira rubbed her face and groaned. What she had just done went against everything she stood for, it was like a kind of madness. She had before walked away from mercenary work that would harm the innocent, and indeed her entire band had, but somehow that damned painting had seized her and here she was in a group with other - probably - damned souls.
Her stormy blue eyes briefly glowed as they often did when she was troubled or angry and an unseen breeze stirred her long ebony locks. "Oh, something will happen, I have no doubt. I just doubt it'll be anything good." She replied.
