Cosmos takes a step back from the fountain. "Yeah, um, real great for chicken."
The voices get more frequent. Rather than just whispers, they come with lard jarring sounds of screams and metal clatter. These are cries of anguish and terror. People wailing, people running. You hear heavy footsteps across the cobblestone. They come in from all directions.
When you question their nature, some of the fog dissipates, leaving you in this compact circle of cool air, a slight brevity from the humidity of the haze. Their incorporeal lights brighten up the brass of the bases of the statues.
'Hello?'
'I'm not home right now.'
'Ask again later.'

Ka-,Cha sees the sights of the market & smells the baked goods and feels the urge to call it home...
NOT HOME! . His gut tells him. He remembers the desert, the hunts, the taste of raw meat, the pangs of hunger in the dry season, and not one memory is even close to what they're calling "home".
He picks up his chat-kcha and turns outward to make a circle against these...things.
Heiboros squints into the fog and the darkness, with his darkvision of 120 ft. He is looking for the monster. (Perception: 19) If he sees the creature, he will chirp and send a mental knife at the witch, hissing "You can't hide from me." DC 14 WIS save or take 18 psychic damage and gain no benefit from being invisible or hidden from me. 9 damage on successful save.
The warp witch jumps out of the fountain and yells at Ka-Cha for disturbing its peace. It reaches out into the tri-keen's mind, taking note of its resistance. 'How dare you not call this home? You were welcome!' These echoes shout and reverberate into your brain. You feel yourself fall. You try to reach out but there is nothing there. You are falling. You are falling within yourself. You can't fight back.
A mental knife slices through your thoughts. Momentarily you can breathe again. Your shoulders relax. This isn't home. This isn't the desert. This isn't the gruel and the grovel you remember. The baked sweets. The children's laughter. Dancing lights. This isn't right. You know you are standing in the middle of a wasteland.
'Seeyou.' Again comes the agony. Arms tense. Legs twitch. Just like any other bug. This thought is projected onto you right smack on your metaphorical head. If you wanted to act, you know you can't do it now. You lose control.
Around the edges of dead potted plants, you see the visages of what looks to be once human. They reach out-

Hadrian’s face contorts in disgust, his nose scrunching as the overpowering scent of baked goods invades his senses. The sweetness is cloying, so intense it makes him feel like he’s choking, as if the air itself is thick with sugar. His stomach turns, and he fights the urge to retch, the nausea rising with every breath. It’s not just the smell—it’s the way it lingers, like it’s trying to smother him, to force its way down his throat and take root in his lungs.
The Divine Sense hums at the back of his mind, sending a warning. This wasn’t any ordinary evil. It was playful, twisted, something between life and death. His grip tightens around his sword, knuckles going white as Heiboros shouts the warped witch’s name. He spits on the ground, trying to rid himself of the sickly, suffocating taste in his mouth. “They're toying with us…” He mutters. “And they know our names."
His eyes catch the Thri-Kreen’s usually sharp, alert gaze became distant, unfocused. No—this is worse than an illusion. The witch hasn’t just trapped Ka-Cha in some dream; she’s taken him over.She’s trying out his body. “Ka-Cha! No!” He shouts. But there’s no time to think—Ka-Cha is lost, for now at least, and the witches are closing in.
There’s only one thing to do.
He swings his blade, bringing it down at the witch's incorporeal form. The only way to end this madness was to cut the source—before Ka-Cha, before any of them, became the next plaything in this twisted game.
Heiboros feels sorcerous rage flowing through his veins. He decides to use it. Repeating the speech and movement from before, he concentrates and sends two mental knives out, targeting Ka-Cha and a witch. Bot of them must make a DC 14 Wis save, and damage for Ka-Cha is 20, and damage for the witch is 5. He knows both of their locations if they fail.
Ray 1 for 25 > 16 AC A Hit. ---> Ka-Cha takes 3 fire damage ---> Ka-Cha is now at 19/21 HP
Ray 2 for 9 < 16 AC A Miss. ---> Neither Warp Witch A nor Ka-Cha take any damage
Ray 3 for 20 > 16 AC A Hit. ----> Ka-Cha takes 4 fire damage----> Ka-Cha is now at 15/21 HP
End of Round: 19/30 HP
Heiboros (30/30 HP)
(Action) Cast Mind Spike on Ka-Cha Khan and Warp Witch S for DC 14 WIS Save
Ka-Cha Khan (Warp Witch A)'s WIS Save: 12 < 14 DC WIS Save A Failure. ---> Warp Witch A's location is known by Heiboros + Ka-Cha takes 20 physic damage ---> Ka-Cha is now at - 5/21 HP and is now unconscious
Warp Witch S's WIS Save: 9 < 14 DC WIS Save A Failure. ---> Warp Witch S's location is know by Heiboros + Warp Witch S takes 5 psychic damage
End of Round: 13/30 HP
Nyx (31/31 HP)
Move 30 ft to the east into the haze
(Action) Attack @Warp Witch Q with Shortbow for 22 A Hit. ---> Warp Witch Q takes 19 (wow) / 2 (due to piercing resistance) = 9.5 = 9 piercing damage
End of Round: 21/31 HP
Ka-Cha feels himself falling. Not a physical fall. No, he is right here, standing, but his arms don't move, not on his own accord. He watches. He can see his friends/party members/fellow travelers in front of him. But it's like watching from the underside of a pond, all the echos and blurriness. You see the mouths arch and move, off beat. The sound takes much longer.
The warp witch in Ka-Cha's body takes a step forward (Ka-Cha hears the click against his feet from stone pavement underfoot). It contours his mouth with such a smile. Thri-keen don't have the usual smile that humanoids do, but his mandibles move up and down in a way reminiscent of when bugs are smushed and stepped on but are still moving. It's just twitchy, when nothing there in those eyes, but the body hasn't gotten the memo yet. It steps towards Tendilius.
From behind its vision, Hadrian comes attacking with his greatsword. It catches the wisps at the tail end of the witch's trail going into Ka-Cha's body. Upon impact the sword slashes... through mist. The mist separates from he trail while the rest head back into Ka-cha's mody. That stump arches. Its light flares. The thri-keen turns around.
"You've always been such a disappointment." Hadrian hears his father's voice coming out from Ka-Cha's mouth. Though it sounds echo-y and distance, even after all those years (and try as you might) you can't forget it. You smell the salt of the sea.
A blast of fire bursts the bubble as Tendilius strikes the thri-keen with his flames. One hits its eye. The second, the fountain. The last, its stomach. Ka-Cha feels like he's drowning.
It steps back to look at the now smoking fountain. The head of the statue has been knocked off, it rolls onto the floor. The thri-keen turns to face you, Tendilius. You catch a shimmer in the thri-keen's eyes and almost see a smile. It knows how to hurt you. It raises it arms outstretched. The scrapes and scratches of skin peeling on one's body fills the air around you. Molting. But not in the right way. Your thoughts scream to you first. It's trying to contaminate Ka-Cha!
Luckily, somehow it stops. In the split second before Heiboro's mental knives spring out, you see a sliver of resistance. The knives looks like icicles drawn by somehow who has never seen icicles before. They pulsate in the haze before striking the thri-keen in the back of the head. Its body is so still you think it forgot to live. Caught between a fighting host and a mind spike, the witch succumbs.
You see a sudden bright flash of purple light surrounds Ka-Cha. Before you can shield your eyes, it disappears just as quick.
The thri-keen's body drops to a thud on the stone courtyard.
The other mental knife zig-zags its ways to the other witch. The creature shrieks in pain. It repeats the words said to you before you left the academy: "You will never achieve anything great. Try as you might. You may do things. Some good. Some bad. But nothing more than just okay. Always... mediocre." You don't ever see its mouth move, but its voice echoes in your ears just the same. All of a sudden it grabs your hand. Ice cold. You see some of your feathers turn dark and molt off.
Nyx sneaks his way to the potted plants. In the haze he reaches for his shortbow and in an instant it is sent flying its way towards the warp witch beside him. The creature howls. It turns around to try and face who did it. The smokiness of the haze makes it even hard for it to see. It tendrils spike and slither as its wanders its way throughout the courtyard. The rogue steadily hides behind some plants. The witch whips its head around to see. It raises its hand up and-
it turns away. It meanders back towards the fountains. Then its jaws unhinge and it screams.
Cosmos stumbles back with a pained yelp. His hand reaches out for Heiboros.
Tendilius feels a hand crawl up his shoulder and finds a beady-eyed face behind him. The warp witch flashes a toothy grin.
Hadrian hears the cries of his sister screaming at him from back at the boat.
Nyx tries to tune out the wails of the witch but fails, knocking over a potted plant in surprise. Dirt flies everywhere.
