I'm looking for about 2-4 players to join me in a short campaign that I've written, titled "The Witchwood". It's set in a classical high fantasy realm which easily could be a quiet corner of Faerun somewhere. Each player would bring a level 3 character who is already locally known for a few heroic exploits on a local or regional level. The characters will be invited to a week-long event in a local small kingdom at a time where King Threshwell has reached the end of his long life and will pass on the crown to his son, Prince Karsted. Your characters' attendance will lend some extra pomp and prestige to the celebrations.
The campaign length is variable but overall short, with a possible opportunity to level up once, or not at all. I expect there to be ample interaction with NPC's, some exploration, and less combat, but that could be ramped up if desired by the players.
In replying to this post, please roll up a level 3 character using any stat generation method you prefer (feel free to drop 1's if rolling stats). UA and homebrew material is welcome, though I may work with you on tweaks that I think would be necessary for the campaign to function well. Give a short backstory (doesn't need to be long, it's a short campaign) and an idea of what heroic exploits your character was involved in to attain level 3. Add an extra 30 gold to your character's pouch, as well. Please also include in your post a preference in how much combat you would like to see (choose between these options: medium // low // critical spots only).
I would like post frequency to be daily. In combat situations I might bot your character's next move after 24 hr.
I'd like to make selections and be playing within 24 hours, thanks.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sounds interesting and a campaign in which I participated just ended, so I've got a free spot. I would like to try a character that I developed for another campaign for which I was ultimately not chosen, but I grew attached to the character when I put together the background. There's one thing that I need to comment though, the character background assumes that they were given an uncommon magic item. It doesn't do much other than perpetually changes there appearance until it is unequipped (which they would never willingly do). Anyway, if that's a deal breaker for you, please let me know.
Name (and sheet): Kesili, a human Kensei Ability scores: 131414141217 Backstory (spoiler):
Kesili's tale begins in an unnamed place, born to vampire parents in a secretive community. Unlike other vampires, she fed on life energy and was humanoid, not undead. Deemed a threat, she was exiled. Her parents entrusted her to a secluded Ilmater monastery, where monks gave her a magical circlet to disguise her as a human. They trained her rigorously in meditation, martial arts, and ascetic practices to control her abilities.
Growing up in isolation, Kesili mastered her physical and mental faculties, curbing her unique hunger through meditative techniques. Nearing the end of her training, she accidentally drained a fellow student's life energy during an argument. Fearing repercussions, she fled to a nearby city, seeking anonymity.
In the city, Kesili joined a thieves' guild, quickly rising in the ranks due to her combat prowess and disciplined nature. She kept her life-siphoning ability a secret, posing as a long tooth shifter if needed. Only feeding on those killed in combat, she maintained her human guise through the circlet, always balancing her dhampir nature with the need to protect her secret.
Within the guild, she found a semblance of family, though none knew her true origins. Guided by the monks' teachings, Kesili used her abilities for good while guarding her secret, knowing discovery would bring danger to her and those she cared for.
Heroic exploits (spoiler):
In the thieves' guild Kesili was to infiltrate the guard. In her first official function she was to find the source of a mysterious poisoning affecting the city's water supply, that also threatened guild assets. Using her Medicine and Survival skills, she traced the contamination to a sabotaged well outside the city. Stealthily surveilling the area, she gathered evidence and helped capture the culprits, restoring clean water and earning the gratitude of the townsfolk.
Then, she was tasked with uncovering a forgery ring that undermined the guild's own operations by producing way too many counterfeit city permits. Again disguised as a city guard, she used her skills in Calligrapher’s supplies and Insight to identify the forgeries and track down the forgers. Her undercover work led to a raid that dismantled the operation, bringing the forgers to justice and cementing her status as a skilled and versatile operative that even drew attention of the crown.

Looks cool, I don’t mind in the slightest about the circlet.
So if it does get displaced then she can be obviously identified as a dhampir?
Absolutely. In fact, even if she'd make use of a disguise kit, it will be quite an obvious transformation as she is actually of size small and only the circlet changes that to medium.
Backstory/ Exploits: From a small town, child of the local innkeepers, always felt a calling to do more. Visited in a dream by Lathander calling her to a temple where she trained to be a cleric serving him. Since completing training, Cordimis has been traveling the countryside aiding small towns in defeating a pack of wolves stealing livestock, healing farmers hurt by their equipment, praying over the sick, etc. Her talents saved and then defended a local, well-loved lord's life when he was attacked by a boar while on a hunt. His men were slain so she guided him back to his large estate. A celebration was thrown in thanks and she became a sought after healer/ guardian in the area though she has a bit of imposter syndrome because she knows there is much more to learn. Several months later she was tasked to help a group rescue the lord's daughter that had been taken by a group of goblins; in her success, her renown grew. At present day: she accepts the invite from King Threshwell, seeing it as an opportunity to share Lathander's tenant of a New Dawn, but she's still unsure if she is best suited for the job when Lathander hasn't said a word to her in 4 years since his first message.
Combat frequency: Indifferent (if I had to vote, medium to low), excited for the RP

Hyacinth was an adventurer by a different name before they became who they are now. Their party was locked in combat with a Hag by the name of Auntie Amanita, and the Hag won out. The Auntie obscured their memories of their past life, transformed them into a Hexblood, and forced them into a life of servitude. Things took a turn when Hyacinth broke free of their magical compulsion, grabbed a sword off the wall, and fled Auntie's lair. Hyacinth made their way through the fey-touched forest and had many adventures, including but not limited to protecting a community of forest gnomes from a gang of kobolds, finding the lost head of the Dullahan princess Amelia, and committing to memory the last words of a dying Moonstone Dragon. They also developed a skill for fighting lesser hags, becoming a proficient witch hunter. Their greatest claim to fame is when Auntie Amanita began terrorizing one of the villages in King Threshwell's kingdom and Hyacinth came to their aid. After a hard-fought battle, Hyacinth cleaved Amanita's head from her shoulders and was celebrated as a hero. They are known among the small folk of Threshwell's kingdom as Hyacinth Hagsbane.

If we play together and pending the DM’s approval, I will offer you to swap a few with me, so that we can even out the extremes a bit and are more balanced. I’d swap you my 15 and 17 for your two 11s. With this we’re more or less equal. I prefer balanced parties stat-wise.

For stats, I don't mind this idea at all. We are here to have fun. I also feel comfortable adjusting certain things on the fly if the PC's are too OP. Gotta keep up a little tension!

backstory is in there. But here it is for quick reference:
Look, there’s not a lot to know about me. Grew up around the ports in Baldur’s Gate. Learned a lot from the rabble that make their way to the city. Mostly how to take care of myself and my friends - and how to not get taken for a sucker. I can generally talk my way outta any situation, and sell a drownin’ man a cup a’ water. But got ol’ ‘Pearcey” here when things go sideways and there’s no better way out of it. Some people don’t give you another option. Sucks for them.
I’m kinda known in certain circles ‘round here. See, a tavern that was owned by a particularly nasty crime boss who held a deed on one of my friends suddenly found itself with a terminal case of arson. So sad. Turns out he held deeds on a lot of folks who didn’t have a hope in hades of gettin’ out of it and guess he kept all his paperwork in the office above the tavern- not that I’d know nothin about that. Completely unrelated, I did find this fancy locket that I can’t seem to open. On the back there’s an inscription of “Nightsong” in curly letters. Wish I knew what this was all about.
Anyways, I do alright and do what I can to help folks get by. But don’t go makin’ me out to be no highbrow. I got no problem with a good knuckleduster if someone pushes it.
You recall a small and humble kingdom, a traditional paternal monarchy, perhaps a bit backwoods and archaic these days, but nevertheless a quaint and inviting locale. Invitation in hand, you make your way down the highroad (or up the lowroad, as the case may be), cross the great stone bridge that spans the river, traverse the industrious city of Westedge, and find yourself at last welcomed into Castle Threshwell. You've been expected, and acommodations have already been arranged for you: your own room in the guest wing of the castle, with your own dinner prepared to order in the kitchens. You've arrived just in time, for the festivities officially start tomorrow. Right now is a good time to unpack your bags, kick up your feet, relax for the evening, perhaps meet some of the other guests as you all share a nightcap in the dining hall. The royal family has retired already for the evening but will no doubt give you an official welcome in the morning.
(Feel free to post describing your character, something about their journey if you wish, how they unwind now that they've reached their destination, etc etc)
After neatly unpacking her items and enjoying a warm meal for the first time in days, a tall woman with warm skin and long red hair kneels before a make-shift alter. On a side table sits a candle, burning incense, and a holy symbol that contains a road leading into a sunrise. The evening prayer ritual leaves her with less peace than normal, anxious about the coming days. She departs for the dining hall, seeking company to ease her racing mind.
She graciously accepts a drink, whispering into the cup before taking a sip, "Forgive me Lathander, this does not serve self-betterment, but it does merriment. To a new dawn." Easing into a seat near the hearth, she looks around the room hoping to meet someone new or at the least overhear a good story before the busy week ahead.
Sliding down one of the bannisters, silent as a mouse, a violet-skinned androgynous figure with a freckled face and brown and green hair arrives in the ground floor, then skips their way to the dining hall. They are dressed in a somewhat-chaotic array of different draped clothes, but over it all they are wearing what appears to be one of the fancy bathrobes given to guests. A smile never seems to leave their face as they grab a nightcap and take a seat next to the fireplace.
"Ah, libations for the evenin'! Delightful. To all yer healths, fine folk of the King's Court, from Hyacinth Hagsbane!" They say in their lilting accent, raising a glass and taking a sip. They make a face at it. "Oh, gods... You know what, not actually my speed I think... Here, darlin', this one's all yours..." They end up sliding the drink over to the tall woman whispering to Lathander.
Trix finishes her dinner with a flourish of her fork. “Seven bells, that was aaaamaaazing!” She folds her napkin and puts her utensils back on the tray with almost comical exaggeration.
Feeling the welcome return of energy from her long trip, she figures that she might as well get a look around the place before it’s completely flooded with guests. She puts her boots back on and straps her rapier to her waist. With a quick Look in the mirror and a toss of her red hair, she starts down the hallway towards the dining hall.
As she enters the hall she pauses and stares, mouth slightly gaping, at the rich appointments decorating the hall. She walks slowly into the hall, head turning in every direction absorbing the trappings and people. She takes one of the drinks she’s offered and takes a long pull from the fluted glass. Her smile vaulters, her eyes widen as she tries to discreetly spit the liquid back into the glass.
Delicately placing the glass on the nearest surface, she continues walking around, taking in the place and people.
Kesili’s journey to the small kingdom had been long and arduous, but the invitation promised respite. After crossing the great stone bridge, traversing Westedge, and finally arriving at Castle Threshwell, she felt a mix of relief and curiosity. Her accommodations were surprisingly luxurious; the warm meal in her private room was more elaborate than anything she had ever had. She savored every bite, the richness of the flavors reminding her of the modest fare she had grown accustomed to.
Dressed in simple but elegant robes that she just bought for the occasion and a humble circlet, she was an attractive but average human. Kesili made her way to the dining hall, her silvery white hair framed her face, her naturally green and piercing eyes, and her soft voice barely above a whisper as she greeted the other guests.
A tall woman with long red hair and warm skin, whispering into a cup near a makeshift altar, caught Kesili’s attention first. She nodded politely, acknowledging the woman’s spiritual reverence. Next, her eyes followed a violet-skinned figure sliding down a bannister, their chaotic attire and freckled face adding a splash of color to the hall. Their exuberant toast brought a slight smile to Kesili’s lips. Lastly, she noticed a vibrant woman with red hair and a curious demeanor, pausing to absorb the opulent surroundings. The woman’s exaggerated reactions to the finery and her near spit-take with a drink elicited a quiet chuckle from Kesili.
Kesili moved with a predatory grace, her keen eyes assessing the room and its occupants. She accepted a drink with a quiet “thank you,” her posture relaxed yet alert. As she sipped, she subtly observed the guests, their postures and expressions revealing hints of their feelings and expectations. Despite her serene exterior, she was ever vigilant, her dual nature always on guard.
Kesili observed the violet-skinned figure who had introduced themselves as Hyacinth. Intrigued by their lively demeanor and the way they had effortlessly claimed the attention of the room, she decided to approach. Moving with her usual grace, Kesili glided across the dining hall. "Good evening," she began, offering a gentle smile. "You have a unique way of making an entrance. I'm Kesili," she continued, extending a hand in greeting. "It's a pleasure to meet you. Your energy is quite refreshing after such a long journey."

Brianad, those stats are definitely a bit weaker than the other posters, but I find that's some of the fun, I'm sure you won't miss a beat.
MIghtyOwl, I love how enmeshed in Threshwell you've already become, and you know next to nothing about it.
We'll see if 1 more person expresses interest soon, but I'm going to get ready to launch the campaign.
For stats, I don't mind this idea at all. We are here to have fun. I also feel comfortable adjusting certain things on the fly if the PC's are too OP. Gotta keep up a little tension!

Hey! Would love to do PbP on this!

backstory is in there.
Great, welcome aboard MrUncleTio, let's close the recruitment there and get going.
Welcome (or welcome back, as the case may be) to the Kingdom of Threshwell!
Map of the area

Finnan Superstes - Tabaxi Monk // Tending the Garden

“Seven bells, that was aaaamaaazing!”
She folds her napkin and puts her utensils back on the tray with almost comical exaggeration.
