The half-elf Lady nods to Meredith and smiles. Ladies who luncheon is a fine thing, and she includes Little One in this. She drinks half the glass in one long draw. It has been a while since she got Moonshae girl wasted.
Bottles are emptied, songs sung, and jokes exchanged, and when the musicians return, dancing!

Erudisia pulls Meredith and Bell into the centre of the common room, stamping her feet and clapping her hands in time with the music. Where there is a box or a quadrille she does not know she prevails on the locals to teach her.
When she realises Little One is tapping his feet and looking over she tries to pull him into the dance too, though even after several cups of wine she is uncertain how wise an endeavour it is.
Bell is awkward as heck. This is not the form of dancing she had to do before she was sent to 'The Tower' to train. (( plus, she has not yet had enough ale to drop all those little village inhibitions. ))

Little One tries a few steps, but after only a few minutes, accidentally breaks a chair. This causes uproarious delight to the other dancers, but the ogre's headband glows and he decides to enjoy the rest of the music seated, his thunderous clapping driving everyone else into motion. The musicians perspire with effort but their playing only gets better as the night goes on. The locals, and particularly, the traveling merchants, are delighted to teach the lady dance steps, and one of the satyrs, holding his timbral, takes the lead. Though he must be sixty years if he's a day old, he steps off the platform and moves perfectly in time with the beat, an intoxicating dance partner, although after a few minutes he returns to his stool on the stage, smiling and shaking his head. He was a sight to behold when he was young, someone shouts to their friend. And the women! They fell at his hooves!

Meredith is deeply out of her element....the music and dancing here is very, very different to that in Calimshan......also Bells delightfully self concious fumbles are too adorable for words.........she does her best to concentrate on not messing up herself and does a somewhat competent job of not embarrassing herself entirely.
Someone recognizes Meredith’s mode of dress and shouts for her to dance as they do in Calimshan. Soon a circle forms around her, everyone clapping, and at the center of attention, she perhaps takes the younger satyr’s drum in hand, accompanying herself as the viols fiddle energetically. Everyone hoots merrily when her dance ends and she hands back the drum to its owner. The floor fills again, and the music goes on, for a little while longer, before the satyrs go around with their hats collecting donations for the band.

You pass the rest of the night in comfort, sleeping soundly in warm beds. The following morning you awaken refreshed if slightly hung over. A light rain falls this morning, but it only makes the road more fragrant when the clouds break in the afternoon. You traverse a stretch of road bordered by cherry trees in full bloom whose pink blossoms drip cheerful petals which coat the road in strawberry snowfall. As night falls you find yourselves very much in-between towns as the Coast Way crosses through a line of low hills. A serene full moon rises, starlings in the trees chirp raucously, and a chill breeze blows. You’ll have to camp out of doors tonight, but by late afternoon tomorrow, you should reach Baldur’s Gate. Do you set watches?

Erudisia says she’ll take the final and fourth watch.
Perception: 9 Survival : Nat 20
She keeps her eyes peeled as well as she’s able, and under her breath she hums. She greets the morning birds, as they hunt for worms near her feet and watches the hares course and the dear does do as they do.
(both are 0 modifiers. Erudisia is far too bookish for a warlock. I don’t think she envisaged watches when she left Moonshae!)
Erudisia finds an excellent spot to camp for the night, protected from the breeze by the curve of the hillside, and from any overnight precipitation by the overhanging lower face of a shale outcropping. There is a clear brook not far from the spot, clover for the horses to nibble, and it appears that the spot has been used by many a traveler, judging by old campfire remains and a number of sets of initials carved into an old log.
As the moon arcs westward across the night sky, clouds come in from the south and total darkness falls, with a light rain pattering quietly beyond the outcropping. It is against the backdrop of this sound that Bell, during her watch, realizes she has fallen asleep. She realizes it because she awakens to the sound of the rain, yes, but also, whispering, an unfamiliar voice, from near the horses.
“That’s it, pall-i-o… that’ll buy us a sweet loaf o’ bread, won’t it?”
In the darkness, Bell counts the shapes near her… the sofa-sized mound of Little One, Meredith, Erudisia... and one more shape, with dark fur and a long, slithery tail. A rat. Bigger than any she’s ever seen. Big as a wolf. It’s whiskery face is coming close, sniffing at her backpack...
Bell, in near total darkness, screams, awakening Erudisia and Meredith. Bell’s spell lashes out at the giant rat and it squeaks in pain, then, flustered by Meredith’s showering sparks, it retreats 10 feet to the edge of the overhang, then quickly turns, its beady red eyes now joined by two more pairs of beady red eyes in the darkness as the rain continues to dribble from above. The only other sound is a sudden bout of snoring from Little One.
Erudisia’s night vision shows her someone just past the rats, where the horses are tied, almost completely hidden behind the horses.
Please roll initiative. Anyone who rolls higher than 15 can act.

Scrambling to her feet, Bell takes the time to snatch up her spellbook. A gesture is made and a short phrase spoken and her book bursts forth with a bright white light that illuminates their sleeping area and beyond.
(Geographically, any defensive features of note in our camp site? How high is the overhang? Is it a drop or a climb - would a gust push possibly an effective strategy essentially?)
(Geographically, any defensive features of note in our camp site? How high is the overhang? Is it a drop or a climb - would a gust push possibly an effective strategy essentially?)
(The overhang is 9 feet above the ground. The rocks create a 3-sided enclosure, a good defensive position. You can’t be flanked, thanks to Erudisia’s 20 Survival roll. The horses are maybe 10’ outside this enclosure, where you tied their leads to a sturdy tree. The rats are now between you and the horses. And the voice came from near the horses. One could perhaps leap onto the rocks to one side of the enclosure annd then off the rocks toward the horses to avoid the rats. Would require Acrobatics.)

She tries to peer out into the darkness to see what is 'out there'.
Bell’s shining light flashes into existence, and a world of blacks and deep grays is suddenly rendered in living color: the purple blanket over Little One, Bell’s golden hair, the sickly dark brown of the 3 giant rats’ coats, your horses’ healthy coats shining with moisture, dark green foliage just beyond them, and just in front of that, between the horses, a man with a rat’s head leveling a hand crossbow in your direction.
“Oy!,” he shouts, “We got magic here lads!” The only 'lads' you see are the rats.
Little One now groans and his eyes flash open as he hoarsely demands, “WHO TURN ON LIGHT? I SLEEPING!”
The ogre’s head pokes up, and you all see his toothy snarl under squinting eyes. You also notice something else. The band around his head is missing.
You also notice something else. The man with the rat head just beyond the horses is holding something golden. And you realize he, the rat-man, is the owner of the voice which, just a few moments ago, said, ‘ “That’s it, pall-i-o… that’ll buy us a sweet loaf o’ bread, won’t it?’ “
Little One’s huge arm comes up to swat in the general direction of the light source.
(Holding here for Meredith’s Initiative roll.)
