"We could walk around the pond and try to find the frog and when we are coming around we stop by the quail, if it hasn't found us first," proposes Seraphine reluctantly. Or is it simply that she is unsure how they should proceed?
Valerian can see that they're all a bit doubtful about how to go about this so he nods, trying to put on a confident look. "We can't wait for whoever Connor is to find us, let's keep going while its still bright and find the frog."
Once he's back on solid ground, Valerian looks around the vicinity for anything that would indicate the presence of a frog.
Seraphine steps onto solid ground, her brow furrowing in concentration as she tries to recall the frog’s song from the previous night. The sound had been distant, hard to pinpoint, but it might still offer a clue. She closes her eyes briefly, listening intently to the sounds of the morning around the pond, hoping to catch a trace of the frog's croak. Her eyes open with sudden realization. "Wait, the mouse—Cheeky—mentioned something about the frog. Gruup, he said. He warned us that Gruup can be a bit testy, but there's a way to approach him... something about music." She looks to her companions, her voice thoughtful. "Maybe we should be prepared to offer music if we find him. That might be the key to getting Gruup to help us. Is anyone of you good at music? I can't hold a note for the life of me."
You're not really spotting any frogs hidden in the rushes or cattails or other pond-shore plants. There may be nothing for it but to try the music, or move on.
"Aralin, Finnan, have you not said you played an instrument before? Did you bring it by any chance? Or do you know a cheerful song?" Asks Seraphine more directly when they get to the location that was indicated to them as the place where they might find the frog.
(Where is everybody?)
(I checked their inventory and they don't have instruments, sadly. But Finnan is proficient in Performance, I think we can assume that he would know a song or other. If really no one can perform, Seraphine could try and Valerian, too. But both of us have a -1 modifier. Anyone trying to make music, Seraphine can support with divine guidance for a +1d4 boost. )
I think I have too many tabs open, none of them were refreshing (and I didn't know it) when I would check in!! I am here!
Finn gives a faltering smile, "I can perform in front of a crowd to entertain through fighting and taunting, that was kind of the whole gig in the gladiator pits. The only songs I know are some drinking songs my old mentor would sing with his friends. I can certainly try to recall them!"
Playing through old memories, Finn comes up with about 75% of the lyrics to a relatively famous song that is common in taverns once the drinks start flowing. His voice carries the tune, though you've heard much better, it's at the least not grating. The concern is if he remembers how it goes.
Performance check: 19 in the game log (woo-hoo!)

Finn's song echoes out across the pond and surrounding grasses. The garden seems to quiet down to listen. And just when he's about to falter on remembering how the song finishes up, a great big toad leaps out of the tall grasses at the pond's shore and belts out the final verse! Then, with great gallumping croaks of laughter, he leaps straight up into the air on his powerful hind legs and does a flip. Landing, he croaks out,
"Well sung, my good sir, I always did enjoy that song! You're a man of fine tastes, I see. It's quite a classic! Do you know any other drinking songs?"
The hackles on the back of Finn's neck rise involuntarily at the surprise. As he registers the frog is friendly, a slow smile spreads across his face. “There was this one other song,” he starts confidently, “‘There once was a lass that’… no, that’s not right. Ahem. ‘There was a gal from’…. Uh, this is kinda hard to remember on the spot.” You swear a bit of blush fills his white furred cheeks in embarrassment, his tail wraps close to his legs.
”It’s not on the tip of my tongue today, but I might know someone who would know more. Only problem is, I think they’re in danger.”Finn leans in close to mark the importance of his next words, ”Have you seen any other small folks like us being carried off by the bees?”

Seraphine watches Finn in awe, impressed by his ability to not only charm the frog with his song but to quickly turn the conversation to what truly matters. His improvisation was clever, his transition to the important question about the adventurers swift and subtle. A faint smile tugs at her lips, the tension in her shoulders easing just a little.
Valerian had been a bit worried when he had learnt that one of them needed to perform to get the frog's attention but now he realizes that there was absolutely no need to be worried.
They seem to find the frog in a good mood upon hearing the song and Valerian is hoping this bodes well for this. Maybe even give them answers.
The frog nods slowly, suddenly solemn. Its bulbous eyes are pierced with strangely geometric pupils, which gaze at you unblinking.
"Yes, I've seen wee little singers like yourselves carried off to the beehive, on several occasions. High up in the oak tree. What happens to them is anyone's guess, but it can't be good."
Finn is slightly off-put by the unblinking eyes, and continues, "This is great and terrible news all at once! I've heard the owl that resides in the tree can be... not as agreeable as you. Do you know of anything we may do to get them on our side?"

(I think he speaks about the owl. I assume we all agree that the bees seem pretty evil and are unlikely to be open for negotiations.)
Seraphine’s brow furrows at the frog’s words, a knot forming in her chest. The news about the adventurers confirmed her worst fears, but she’s grateful for the honesty. As Finn speaks, asking about the owl, she steps closer, adding softly, "If the owl is not as kind as you, Gruup, we may need to find a way to approach them cautiously. Any advice you have could help us avoid a deadly mistake." She holds Gruup’s solemn gaze, hoping that his wisdom extends beyond song and humor, and that he might know something that could give them an edge when dealing with the owl. Time feels like it’s slipping away, and any guidance could mean the difference between life and death for the other adventurers that had fallen in the man's trap.
Gruup blinks at last, apparently in some surprise at this line of questioning.
"The owl? There's no making friends with the owl. I suppose if she had already gobbled one of you, then she may be more inclined to speak with the rest of you, but that seems a steep cost to me. No, better to avoid her altogether!"
Valerian shake his head, that was not a price they were willing to pay at all. The last thing they needed was to lose one of them in an attempt to save the other adventurers.
"Is there anything other than one of us that we could use to bribe the owl?"Valerian asks, unsure of if that's a smart question.
Finn's brows furrow in dismay, "How are we supposed to get close to the tree? If we approach in the day, there are bees; if we approach at night, there's the owl. Is there any protection we could seek to reach our friends?"

The frog perks up at this. "Ah, now that's an interesting question! I've thought about it myself on more than one occasion, just as a daydream mind you, not with any intent to go for it. But imagine taming and riding squirrels, they could carry you right up! Or perhaps certain birds would also be convinced to take you. And as for the owl, it sleeps during the day, and at night it takes wing in the darkness to hunt."

Valerian shakes his head at the suggestion, "lf I try and instrument, I'll shoo away the other animals too, anyone else?" He looks around the group.
Then turns to look around this side of the lake for the frog anywhere but also keeping an eye out for any threats.
