The Hunter is able to give you some rough estimates of the approximate dimensions of the various fortresses, and he is able to tell you which one was to be his. Unfortunately, he isn't able to tell you where the other four Chosen were sent. That information was on a need-to-know basis.
He is able to confirm one of the worst possibilities, though: Lord Tenebris went to Waerham Castle...
A few minutes later, the helicopter lands outside the walls of the fortress. Zana, a pretty Tiefling army lieutenant, steps out of the aircraft to wave you onto the ship.

"Interesting,"Eppie says, rubbing her chin as she listens to the Hunter. "Fascinating. This is most intriguing. I mean, it's really terrible." Pyx chirps in agreement.
The goblin cocks an ear as the whirring helicopter blades catch her attention. "Ah! Sounds like our ride is here." She jumps to her feet, and snaps her fingers at Vox IV, which clanks smartly over to her. "Shall we? Noble hunter, are you able to walk? Or shall Toa carry you on board?"

Erik tells the others, "Well, I can think of a dozen strongholds that were associated with the Dark Lord. They're scattered across the continent, and most of them are in ruins. But once you've turned in The Hunter, it shouldn't be too hard to have someone check them out. See whether there's been any recent activity at any of them."
He is able to confirm one of the worst possibilities, though: Lord Tenebris went to Waerham Castle...
When The Hunter finishes talking and the group is gathering their things to prepare for the helicopter's arrival, he tries to get the group together briefly. He seems quite agitated and says, "Lord Tenebris at Waerham Castle? That's terrible news!" In case any of his rescuers aren't familiar with the castle, he says, "Waerham Castle was one of the Dark Lord's main fortresses, and it was restored in the last century. Today, it is actively maintained and serves as a museum on the history of the Dark Lord and his Chosen and the war against them. It's a popular destination for tourists! If Lord Tenebris was transported back to Waerham Castle already...it could be a massacre!" He urges the team to inform their officers as soon as they can. Someone needs to send word to law enforcement in the district where Waerham Castle is located: they need to clear all of the tourists out of there before it's too late!
(So... what is the party doing? I want to know if you're actually going to leave the Hunter here like Simon suggested or if you're going to bring him with you to the chopper)

Erik packs away his tools into his bag and makes sure that he has everything as he gets ready to go follow his rescuers outside and board the helicopter...
Simon will nod with the notes down on the paper, then says to the others, “we should leave him.” Then he will go into the helicopter.
But Simon's last words surprise him. Erik looks to Eppie, Toa, Adams, and Pinion in confusion and says, "Wha...? I thought that you were supposed to bring him in?"
Erik would take The Hunter with them. He still feels that until The Hunter is dead, he still poses a danger. But Erik is the only known survivor of the first expedition, and he'll already have enough to explain when they get back. He doesn't want to encourage the group to ignore a direct order from home base.
"Yes, we're bringing him in. There's no point in leaving him here. Headquarters can secure him." Eppie merrily packs her bags to board the helicopter as well.
Toa looks back and forth between Simon and Erik, puzzled. Not an uncommon expression for the island warrior when confronted with such choices.
"Leave him? I was thinking that if we took him, he might break free and kill a lot of the men in white coats back wherever we're taking him. But if we leave him, he's getting free for sure. I know I would. I mean, maybe if I knock him out and crush his hands and feet with my maul?"
Toa does not look like he relishes the idea of incapacitating and maiming the Hunter, but the lion-like archer had already promised that he would soon hunt again, and however much Toa respects him, he is not too thick to recognize that this would likely mean the deaths of many more innocents.
He glances at Zana, the army lieutenant, and finds himself staring at her appreciatively for a long moment before remembering what he was going to say.
"Lady, ah... Sir, ah... Mrs. Zana. What are we supposed to do with this warrior of the Dark Lord that we captured. Bring him? Leave him? Kill him?"
"I mean, maybe if I knock him out and crush his hands and feet with my maul?"
Erik is shocked by the proposal to maim their prisoner, but he tries to hide his reaction from Toa. If he happens to make eye contact with anyone else, he raises his eyebrows and makes a kind of "yikes!" grimace. (Basically, half-way between this 😦 and this 😬.)
"As dangerous as he is... we are not authorized to execute a prisoner without trial. There are also several individuals in positions of authority who would like to question him thoroughly. So we are going to bring him back alive."

Toa shrugs his broad shoulders philosophically and grins a fatalistic grin. Tangaroa's tides would ebb and flow regardless of the plans of city folk.
"I understand. May the Ancestors protect all the men in the white coats and long fabric strips hanging from their necks, and the women who work with them too. When arrow-cat here breaks free and massacres a bunch of people. Which he probably will. May Hinenuitepō receive their spirits kindly."
He turns to the Hunter and inclines his head. "See you maybe when we battle again. Try not to kill more than you need. All things in balance."
"Normal folks aren't worth hunting anyway... there's no sport in hunting a defenseless commoner," the Hunter tells Toa with a chuckle. "And that pretty lady I might just keep for myself..."
Zana eyes the Hunter uneasily, but she doesn't address his comment. She pauses, glancing at the massacre in the courtyard.
"If that is anything to go by, he'll probably receive a sentence of death soon enough," she tells Simon. "Unless he is smart enough to cut a deal for leniency."
Two extremely tough-looking orc soldiers take the Hunter into custody (on the off-chance it becomes important for any reason, they both have the stats of an orc war chief). As the chopper takes to the sky, a massive explosion rocks the entire landscape! For a moment, you might think that it's the beginning of the bombardment... but no. A huge pillar of light shoots into the sky from inside the castle! The Hunter snickers as the light fades again.
"Looks like the dwarf got the transporter working after all,"the Hunter says.

Eppie gets Vox IV settled back in its position in the corner in the helicopter, securing it and powering it down. Then she runs through a check on all of her weapons and gear, taking her guns and devices apart and putting them back together, unstringing and cleaning her longbow, making sure the attachments on her shield and weapons are properly functioning. She counts the pieces of chalk in her pouch, with a sidelong glance at Erik, who she thinks might have the one she's missing, but she shrugs it off. Chalk is cheap and she still has plenty.
Pyx stretches out on the floor of the helicopter near the passengers' feet, letting out a hefty sigh as she finally relaxes enough to feel the malaise of the poison cloud still coursing through her system.
As the pillar of light shoots into the sky, Eppie leaps to her feet and runs to the window of the chopper. "Huh," she says. "I suppose Handril probably went through it himself soon as he got it repaired to try and escape the Brute. Maybe he'll find a way to radio headquarters and give an update. Poor chap. I hope he made it out."

"I suppose Handril probably went through it himself soon as he got it repaired to try and escape the Brute. Maybe he'll find a way to radio headquarters and give an update. Poor chap. I hope he made it out."
Erik's expression looks pinched. He certainly hopes that Handril is OK. He tries to assuage his guilt at leaving Handril behind by reminding himself that they were just following orders to bring in The Hunter for questioning.
(OOC: I don't know whether Erik would know Zana. I'll assume that the first expedition had a separate contact and that Zana is just in charge of the later rescue operation.)
Assuming that they have headsets (at least, everyone other than The Hunter) and can talk over the noise of the helicopter, Erik waves his hand to get Zana's attention. He says, "Can the helicopter radio back to base? You need to call them right now and get them to send a warning to WaerhamCastle and the district around it. They need to evacuate the museum immediately! The Dark Lord is already there at Waerham Castle! Make the call -- now. Force them to listen to you. I fear that it may already be too late! If they don't know, you must have someone contact the museum. Contact security forces in that district and warn them! The Dark Lord Tenebris has returned, wielding unknown power, and he is at Waerham Castle."
Once Lieutenant Zana finishes calling in that warning, Erik gives her more details if no one else has told her yet. The pulse of energy must be from "the Transporter," a piece of ancient technology at the frozen base. The Dark Lord was apparently forcing Handril, the lead scientist of the first expedition, to repair it. Based on what The Hunter already told them, the Dark Lord and the other four Chosen -- other than The Hunter -- are still alive. The energy pulse was surely a sign that the last of them was transported to one of the Dark Lord's old fortresses, probably taking Handril with him. As Erik already told her, Lord Tenebris has already gone to Waerham Castle. They're not sure where the other Dark Lord's other four allies are, but Erik can help identify some possibilities.
Zana does her best to relay the message, looking more horrified by the second as Erik explains just how bad the situation has gotten.
"If we're lucky then perhaps the ancient device sent him to another plane of reality," Zana says, not sounding like she's especially convinced.
The tiefling is unfortunately unable to get an immediate update on the situation, as the castle is not any kind of active military establishment in the modern day... well... it wasn't until Lord Tenebris decided to retake it, anyway.
A few minutes later, when you have gotten a good distance away, the shelling begins. You notice that the bombs launched into the facility are actually not doing much structural damage; they are primarily poisonous gas bombs and similar anti-personnel weapons designed to clear out hostile forces while leaving buildings intact. The gas is especially interesting as it is heavier than air sinks into the tunnels below ground. If anything is down there that still needs to breath, it is going to die a horrible death... unfortunately, as you have already seen, it's entirely possible, perhaps even probable, that creatures which are immune to such poisons could still lurk in the tunnels, creatures like the undead abomination which you fought not too long ago.

Yes, if we haven't already explained what we encountered, we should tell Zana to warn off any future expeditions from trying to explore the catacombs. Even constructs, like Eppie's Vox IV, would be unaffected by poison, and the Dark Lord already seems to have even more powerful and horrible abominations at his command.
For example, "The Dark Lord and his Chosen have returned, and, with them, ancient magic that was lost to the world ages ago. Zombies and ghouls are no longer just fodder for scary Halloween stories. We already fought a sort of zombie down there: it was clearly some sort of corpse, raised from the dead but then twisted and mutated. The bombs may not clear the catacombs beneath the base: you cannot poison a body that's already dead. Tell them not to send any troops down to secure the base or the catacombs beneath it! Or, if they do, make sure that they go in expecting to fight the stuff of nightmares!" Erik is sorry not to be able to reassure Zana: he's too preoccupied with thinking through the ramifications of what has already happened.
(OOC: I'm assuming that the undead are basically unknown in this age because there have been no true Wizards or Clerics or Warlocks for hundreds of years.)
Toa takes one look out the window at the shelling and shrugs his broad shoulders fatalistically once more. The island drawl is strong in his voice.
"We should have finished the hunt. Gone after theBrute and tried to save thatHand Krag guy. Tangaroa knows, those little fart bombs we're dropping in there are going to stop these foes about as much as a little pig poop stops a panther."
With that, the barbarian closes his eyes, ignores his growling belly, and begins to meditate despite the pulse and whine of the chopper. Thanking his honored ancestors for their aid thus far and beseeching them to guard him and this little group well. They would need all the help they could get.
