Realistically, the Gray Palace is ancient. It was built in the time of the Dark Lord's first reign of terror, possibly even earlier than that. You can find some rough maps, but it's unlikely that you'll find any map that has every tunnel and hidden chamber on it. You could still probably find one that would give you a potential point of entry, likely through servants' quarters or perhaps through the dungeons. I'll let you guys decide which way you would like to use. There are pros and cons to each.
Servants' Quarters: Less likely to be monsters, but you'll almost certainly have witnesses to your entry. And the unwanted attention could easily be far worse than fighting a demon or two.
Dungeons: Probably has a few monsters in it, and will take more time. But, if you do it right, you could slip into the Gray Palace completely undetected.

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Eppie will wander around town letting well-to-do ladies pet the fluffy Pyx riding on her shoulder, and chats them up about the uncoming party, trying to find out who's going and if there's a way to get invited. "You like Pyx? I can get you one like her. I've got a very specialized breeding program in the works right now, along with my other terribly fascinating biological emulation projects. You know, I've always thought the world would be a better place with a few extra-special military-designed gadgets. I'd love to show you a few..."
Toa is ready to fight monsters, while the whole idea of "servants" makes him uneasy. He prefers the dungeon approach.
"The ancestors shall guard us well if we battle our way through the dungeons, against demons or undead or whatever may stand in our way. But I do not think they can protect us from these ah... servants, you know, talking, and spoiling the stealth of our hunt..."
Erik is interested in seeing the Gray Palace with his own eyes. He hopes that they might see some servants or vendors coming and going in preparation for the party. He or Simon might be able to strike up a casual conversation and learn something useful. Otherwise, Erik could at least look at the structure and try to determine something about the origin of the ancient structure.
(OOC: Using this background feature:
When you enter a ruin or dungeon, you can correctly ascertain its original purpose and determine its builders, whether those were dwarves, elves, humans, yuan-ti, or some other known race.
)
After they get a look at the structure, Erik proposes that they try to find at least a rough map of the palace. They could visit to a historical society or museum about this town and its history, or Erik could possibly use his academic credentials to get access to a library or other academic institution in town where they could look for an old map. He'd use whatever he learned about the origin of the Gray Palace to guide his search for a map.
(OOC: @Mister_Whisker - Let me know if you need skill checks for any of that. Also, didn't the military get us an invitation to the party at the Gray Palace? Are we just talking about sneaking in to the Gray Palace so that we can take a look around before the day of the party?)
Simon will ponder the two choices and then say, "We cannot be noticed by the enemy so if we can not get invitations then we should go through the dungeon."

He said he THOUGHT he could get you in without too much trouble, lol. But... it may just be a better idea to not put your names on the guest list officially to avoid a record of your presence. Or perhaps it would even be a good idea to... split the party and have some of you enter "legitimately" while others infiltrate from one of the "backdoor" entrances (boy, I'm going to LOVE running that...)
(And again, sorry for how long it's been since my last post)

Heh. Now that we're down to four (plus one battle medic), Erik is not enthusiastic about splitting the party. The Hunter went down quickly but not without a stiff fight, and it seems likely that The Countess will be an even trickier foe. Doing some reconnaissance separately is one thing, but when we're ready to confront The Countess herself, we should all do that together.
(And again, sorry for how long it's been since my last post)
(OOC: No worries. Take care of yourself! Good luck on the recovery. It may be a long road back to 100%.)

"So are we doing this?" Toa seems to be having trouble restraining his impatience and restlessness.
"Together through the dungeons? I swear, by Tangaroa's tides that my ancestors shall help protect us."
