Blood flies from a new wound in the drake's torso as Jaime pulls his spear tip from it, there's a loud crack as he brings the end of his spear down on its head. The scaly creature collapses to the ground, and doesn't get up.
The two remaining kobold's begin to shout curses in draconic. They stand side-to-side, unloading rocks from their slings across the room at Jaime and Sassamona.
Sling Attack(Jaime) -> 12 to hit.
Sling Attack(Sassamona) -> 20(non natural) to hit, 6 damage.
Barnabas tilts his head as he picks up on the kobolds' cursing, recalling that he knows Draconic. As unimpressive as the creatures are, they are related to dragons in a way. "Hm...Can we try to keep one of the little fellows alive? At least long enough for me to ask if they have any large, blue friends."
Sassamona whips her head around to face the kobold which had flung the rock at her. With a battle scream, she runs at it, vaulting over the long table and swinging her quarterstaff at the it, throwing punches at the other.
Having heard Barnabas’s suggestion, she pulls her punches slightly, trying not to kill the second kobold.
OOC: Movement 40 ft. to get in range of both kobolds (I assume the table is like difficult terrain) Action: Quarterstaff attack —> 24 to hit for 5 bludgeoning damage Bonus Action: Flurry of Blows —> 20 to hit for 5 bludgeoning; 8 to hit for 5 bludgeoning damage (nonlethal for these)
Sassmona flies across the room, knocking the first kobold clean off its feet with a single swipe of her quarterstaff. It slams into a nearby support beam and crumples to the ground. The second one she takes with a mean uppercut swing - though not as mean as she could have made it.
It falls to the ground unconscious, and for now, all of your foes are vanquished.
The rest of the tavern patrons have squeezed into the back of the room away from the door, watching with a mixture of terror and awe. Another thunderclap from outside rattles the windows, and some of them scream.
"I doubt that's the last of them..."Jaime says, recalling the screams from outside. He moves to a window, peaking through to see what the scene is like outside while Darath and Barnabas handle their interrogation.
Barnabas heads over to the unconscious kobold, shaking it awake. He then addresses it in Draconic, backed up by the threat of Darath. "Hello there, small friend. You were defeated, but it seems luck is on your side today in the form of me. Speak true and you can live to see another day: Do you happen to know a blue dragon?"
The kobold's eyes jitter, and it seems woozy after being shaken awake. It looks around confused, then up at Barnabas. It lets out a chittering giggle. "Dragon? Blue?" Another thunderclap shakes the windows. The kobold raises a shaky hand towards the door, "outside!"
A fearful murmur breaks out among the tavern patrons at the news. As Jaime looks outside, he would see smoke and fire as some of the thatch roofed buildings in the area have recently caught fire. Citizens of Greenest run for cover in the streets, being chased by packs of kobolds, drakes, and humanoids dressed in robes. In the sky above, you see a dark shape circling above: a blue dragon.
Sassamona grabs the sling from the kobold she killed. Following Jaime over to the window, she sees the chaos outside. The humanoids in the robes might've caught her interest, if it weren't for a certain blue, scaly beast.
"It's right—a dragon!" she exclaims. She shouts over to the innkeeper, "This place have a cellar? You all should hide!"
"Are you two really dragon hunters?"she asks Darath and Barnabas. "What do we do?" She directs her last question to Jaime as well.
"Seems Jaime was right about that not being the last of them. That's a nice a little army outside." He says to Barnabas in Giant, "Think you can ask our friend what his comrades' goal is? Or is it time to dispatch him and focus on the war?"
Darath replies to Sassamona with a sardonic grin, "It's a recent profession." His emotions are a mixture of excitement at the chance to battle a dragon blended with the reminder that such a beast is a terrible foe. "I'd try to hook up with any other fighters if we can. Save civilians. Focus on the ground and hope others have a way to deal with the air." He asks the bar-goers about any weapons, especially thrown, they might be able to lend (daggers, darts, javelins/spears etc.) or people able to aid the coming fight.
"Our bet will be decided sooner rather than later then," Barnabas replies in Common before switching to Giant, not quite so excited about the prospect of fighting an army as Darath but still unwilling to give up, "I'll try. Not sure how much they would tell him though."
Turning back to the kobold, he gives an expression of recognition before continuing in Draconic casually. "Oh, I see. It's a shame: won't your friends consider you a traitor? Or a failure, at least, for losing. We can try to protect you from them, but we'll need to know as much about your operation as possible. Goals, leaders, battle plans, whatever you can think of."
Deception with advantage (Assuming Darath is still helping): 15; if not helping 9
At Sassamona's suggestion, the bartender begins to corral people back behind the bartop into the food prep area, where there's a small (and soon to be very cramped) cellar they can hide in. None of the tavern-goers offer to go with your group outside - a few proffer up their personal daggers (total of 3), but other than that they're unarmed.
The kobold seems to be coming around to its senses more, and the first thing you notice is that its eyes go wide with terror. "No! No no no! Don't tell failure!"
"Goals...Goals, treasure!" He exclaims, pointing towards the burlap sack he'd brought. "Treasure for the dragon-lady, and the Dragon Cult!"
Barnabas nods, translating for the others. "They are collecting treasure for the 'dragon-lady' and the 'Dragon Cult'. I suppose that's the army outside." He then pauses, thinking over the kobold's fate. The creature IS still alive and can be killed, winning him a drink...but it has been more honest than he expected. Sighing, he picks up the small creature and deposits it into the cellar, to the shock of the tavern patrons.
"A dragon cult?"Jaime spins the spear in his hand slowly while he considers that fact, recalling his past experience with one such group. How funny it was that his second meeting with Leosin would involve yet another cult. He heads over to the door of the tavern shaking his head. "I'm not overly fond of dragon cults...Into the fray then?"
"Maybe. We'll find out soon enough. 'Into the fray.'" He falls in behind Darath and Jaime, giving his Tymora amulet a kiss for good luck. "Never run into a cult myself...But they could certainly choose something more pleasant to worship, couldn't they?"
Sassamona follows the others to the door. "Dragon cults are the worst; they're sneaky," she says to Barnabas, thinking back to an experience she remembers as an unfair deception. She echoes the others, "Into the fray."
You throw open the door to the tavern to be greeted by the chaos that has gripped the town of Greenest. Buildings burn and smoke chokes the air, high in the sky you can see the dragon making lazy circles above the town. The large fountain that sits in the center of this town square has been shattered, the stone statue blasted into a thousand tiny shards. A home to your right is aflame, and across the square you can see a group of kobolds going into one of the homes.
There are roads leading east and southwest out of the town square, and the town's keep is ~ 200 feet to your south.
"Lead the way," Sassamona says to Darath. "Let's stop those kobolds!" Though referring to the kobolds across the square, she will still follow if the group goes to a different part of the battle, be it the town's keep or elsewhere.
She clasps her quarterstaff in calloused palms, ready to fight against the presently very un-sneaky Dragon Cult.

Darath has a small frown as the battle ends. Seems no drink would be paid out. He stands behind Barnabas menacingly to help his interrogation efforts.
