Sam turns back towards the group, speaking in a quieter tone.
”The path to the right seems to be used mostly by smaller scouting soldiers. The left seems to be the path of bigger folk of different races, but there is a strange noise coming from down there. Metallic.”
”My guess would be that the hunting party will either come through the way we came or come back through some path to the right.”
"Well then," replied Finn, "it seems like best bet is to either lie in wait at the entrance, or head to the right." He looked towards the others to see if they thought the same.
Psalm approaches the dwarf with as much of a friendly smile as he can manage while wearing the goblin captain's face. "Truly the bravery of the stout folk cannot be overstated. Friend Dain, I am honored by your courageous desire to stand on the front line and think you are an excellent candidate to lead the vanguard whenever we encounter combat. However, if you are the first individual our adversaries see, I'm afraid it might render useless any attempt we might make at deception or surprise."
He gestures at his current appearance, disguised as the goblin captain, "If you would be so kind as to allow me to proceed a few paces in advance, I might be able to scout ahead slightly, provide ample warning and ward off any villains we might encounter to give us a slight advantage in combat..."
He then bows graciously. "That being said... Once the chips are down and the blades are out, I am more than happy to step aside and allow you to lead the charge..."
He rises from his bow with that same joyful glint in his eye. "What say you, friend Dain? A fair plan?"
Dain seems to take a moment to register that Psalm's disguise is just that, and not simply the joke he'd been making before we entered. Recognition glimmers as he says, "Aye, that makes sense. I'll follow behind ya, in front of the others. Give you a little space. Just signal if you want me to rush in. Grind the dust with your left foot or something and I'll take it as a signal."
Finn couldn't help but smile as the others implemented their bit of chicanery. He always enjoyed a good fight, but watching the shock on an opponent's face as they realized they'd been tricked into a vulnerable position was just the honey on top.
The warlock stayed just behind Dain as they moved forward, eager to see the outcome of their ruse.
With Psalm leading the way, the group starts to head towards the right. From a glance, seems to go about the same length before taking a turn as does the left path.
From the left those with darkvision are able to see something in the dim. clicking and clacking is a peculiar mechanical beast. It kind of mimics a spider's appearance and has two sawlike blades towards its front. Its demeanor seems excited and confused. Held by a chain that clinks as it moves it rushes towards the party before reaching the end of its chain, ~15ft from the party, with a thunk. Then, as if finally noticing Psalm, it slinks back like remorseful dog. Its little eyes dart between the hobgoblin-disguised Psalm and the other party members.
@Sampson, could I get a perception with looking for traps? Would have disadvantage due to dim light. (Unless someone lights a torch or something similar.)
The pirate exhaled as the golem crept back. Glancing towards the disguised Psalm, he could only nod. "Brilliant work on that idea, there. I'll go ahead and get you that drink when we finish this job!"
(( @DM: If it matters, Finn has Devil's Sight out to 120 feet, but by RAW it doesn't actually counter dim lighting, just full darkness. ))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sam holds out his palm and chants softly in Sylvan. Slowly a small flicker of flame appears, hovering slightly above his hand. (Casts Produce Flame)
(Produce flame sheds 10ft of bright light and 10ft of dim light.)
17 (Perception Check)
(Passive is also 17, if that helps)
(But just to make sure, he would do this if the lighting conditions down this right hallway are considered Darkness. With him being a half-elf, he also has darkvision)
@RodTheBard, I worded things poorly. This area has no lighting, so is considered darkness. I'd shortcutted to dim light with Sampson via his darkvision. So Devil's Sight would be in effect. (And also for any parts not lit up by Sampson's Produce Flame now.)
Sampson's eyes are very perceptive. He's able to see that further down the right-hand path are some holes in the wall, ranging from roughly shoulder to head height on a medium-sized creature. The ground near these also seems to be slightly raised compared to the rest of the path.
As they pass the metallic spider creature, Psalm whispers to the others,"Remind me to steal that thing on the way out."He looks at the construct one more time with an impressed smile, then continues... "In the meantime... Let's push on, shall we?"
He maintains a good 20' lead with the confident demeanor of one who belongs in this dungeon as he turns the eastern corner to see what lies beyond.

The Eastern corner rounds the rock in the middle and comes to an opening on the other side. Opposite the party is another tunnel, the corresponding end path from the rightside corridor. Further beyond the rough work starts to give way to more refined stonework and the glow of oil lamps. Sounds of chatter, growling, and the moving of people can be heard from this area ahead too. After one particularly loud growl you can hear a voice shout in Draconic. "Oh shut up would you!"
As the party goes through the clockwork creature comes close to some of the partymembers with an inquisitive eye, but doesn't inhibit their passing.
Finn couldn't help but to constantly check behind them to ensure the metal spider-beast-thing wasn't moving in for the kill. Hearing the voices ahead, he considered casting a defensive spell; but he couldn't quell the thought that doing so could trigger the construct. Shaking his head at his own excessive caution, he simply grimaced and continued slowly forward after Psalm and Dain.
Dain rolls his shoulders and winks at Zylborin after hearing the inspiration. Hemoves up almost to the corner, carefully stepping around the section of floor Sam indicated and motioning for the group to follow.
He clutches his weapon in anticipation at the sound of the voice ahead, but waits for Psalm’s recon.

Zylborin nods and whispers in return, "I agree, and I vote we investigate the right tunnel first. Even if we just take a look to see how far it goes."
Sam nods his head to agree with Zylborin, but keeps his gaze focused on the left passage.
"Right's fine by me. Let's get the little 'uns out of the way first."
Dain will insist on taking the lead. (most HP and I want to be in range)
Sam will choose to follow near the back and help keep an eye out for traps.
