An almost childish grin flashes across Vydar's face when he hears the group almost unanimously vote for the faster path, though he quickly replaces that grin with his usual expression. "I agree. And Yes, I'm sure those tracks are from the ones that took Paevira, a kobold riding a giant white weasel took her." He moves over to the cart and begins the familiar task of unhitching Charlie. "It would be far to dangerous to take this cart, it's slowing us down anyway. Charlie can carry the food, and we can divide up any other necessary items to carry."
Vydar doesn't look weak, but he certainly isn't the strongest of the group (though he would not admit that). He will lead Charlie (Which means he'd actually be walking a bit BEHIND the donkey when walking along the narrow ledge. When leading equines on foot along a ridge it's safer to travel behind them in case they spook...so technically he should walk ahead of everyone when we cross the ridge. Though I'm not sure we'd want to do that in game in case we run into danger. While traveling on the wider areas Vydar would walk just next to Charlie's shoulder on the uphill side.)
Lev agrees that taking the mountain trail is the best option, though he doesn't say much as everyone decides on what to do. His mood has only gotten worse after the conversations and thoughts of Paeviera. His thoughts turn inward, leaving little room for external conversation aside from an occasional agreement or disagreement about their heading.
As they move to start up the mountain, he quickly takes the front, whatever lurks up ahead, he intends to be the first to encounter it--and take whatever damage necessary to keep everyone else out of harms way. Before they start however, he pulls out whatever rope they have with them and says, "We should tie ourselves together, that way if someone slips we can help them up as a group." Of course, if more than one person slips, then this could be more dangerous, but he's counting on the fact that everyone here is capable. This makes the most sense so that they don't have to worry about someone slipping and not having time to catch them. They'll just have to be careful about who is tied to who.
(OOC: These are pics from my hike in colorado, doing a 14er) You begin you traverse up the steep slopes. At first, the hike is relatively easy.
As you ascend, the views become quite spectacular. The beauty of the wilderness and the fresh air seems to cleans your soul and spirit, washing away some of the the terrible evil and frightful events you have witnessed in the past few days.
Climbing higher, the trees seem to stop suddenly, and the terrain becomes rocky. You are glad you did not bring the cart.
At several points during the climb, you feel like you are being watched. At one point, Ning, the tiny bear becomes restless and wants to get out of Amdaengs backpack. From the rocks, you hear a high pitched, chirp/bark sound. (Peep, peep, peep). Nings ears turn toward the sound. Quickly, it runs to a clump of rocks and investigates. The sound stops. Finally, Ning gives up and returns. As you start hiking again, the angry chirping sound comes again. Those with sharp eyes see a Marmot (a large rodent in the rocks).
With the help of the group, the ropes, and even Charlie's sure-footedness, you begin your final ascent to the top. Everyone in the group is quite tired (you will have disadvantage on attacks until you do a short rest. Also very difficult terrain, that is slow going, and somewhat difficult to breathe due to the high elevation of 10000 feet). You again get the sense that you are being watched by something or someone. (Everyone make two Dex/ athletics roles. Let me know if you get a1on either roll). Can also do perception or survival rolls if you like).
"Stop." Lira says as loudly as she can without sounding panicked, recognizing the feeling. She focuses as her sharp eyes scan around for the source. A predator? Perhaps another mountain lion; at least she knows what to do from last time.
Lira scans the surrounding terrain, looking for something she has perhaps run into in the past. Her sharp eyes pick up a large thickly furred goat, staring at them from a rocky outcropping. Even though it is white, its fur seems to provide some camoflague around the rocky snow covered tundra.
As you look, you see another, and then another. They look at the group for a moment, then go back to digging with their hoofs in the dirt. They seem completely unconcerned with your presence below them. Charlie also seems unconcerned about the goats.
Zarbyn will use his Beast Speech invocation to greet the goats and explain that we mean them no harm and we are just passing through.
"It's ok, I've explained to the goats that we will not harm them and are just passing through."
I also ask the goats if they have seen anyone else in the past day.

Zarbyn will thank the goats and let them know they can have all the roots in this area as we are not stopping but continuing down the other side.
"I thanked them and let them know they could have the all the roots here, they seem hungry and food might be hard to come by up here, plus we're heading to cache 3 anyway."

The goats continue eating, and scraping at the ground, digging up roots and plants that they smell under the tough soil. They seem completely ambivalent about the group, confident in their supreme abilities on the difficult terrain.
"A big bird and a stinky cat...?" Lira tries to think of what these creatures might be. She is clearly impressed with Zarbyn's beast speech. "That must come in really handy. Ah, can you ask Ning...No, nevermind." Clearly the small bear just didn't like her because of the amulet. "But, I did remember something. Shareella's lead giant weasel was named Salome. Maybe you can try talking to her if we cross paths."
Iólinder took his share of the supplies to unburden Charlie. Lev's idea of tying everyone together was a sound one and he did not object. He was not sure he was strong enough to pull anyone up should they slip but together with his equipment and belongings he weighted quite a bit: he reckoned he could be a solid anchor point if nothing else.
Even with the arduous trip Iólinder took the time to enjoy the view. Despite everything he had encountered so far, the mountains were be a beautiful place and the scenery was gorgeous. He was a little bit surprised when some animals showed up. Not because of the animals themselves but because Zarbyn began talking to them. Though Iólinder should not have been. Magic was a given and it was obvious that someone somewhere out there had devised of a magical solution to talk to their pets. Probably one of those elvish treehuggers, they seem the type. Iólinder thought to himself.
He did not know what to make of the beasts comments. A big bird and a stinky cat? It was not a lot to go off on.
Dexterity checks: 12 and 21. I don't know why it shows as DEX saves. I clicked on the ability score itself and not the saving throw box. Perception check: 25
Iólinder is not certain, but looking up the mountain several times, he thinks he spots a person very far off on another ridge, moving on the mountain's rocky slopes. Then, when he looks again he does not see them. Either his eyes are tricking him, or someone is either hidden or camouflaged quite well.
(ooc: (8+1=9) and (9+1=10)... average but no ones.)

With safeguards, no major hazards occur (broken leg, lost equipment, etc. As you crest the peak of the mountain you hear a loud roar.
