Lev notes the snow on both sides of the steep slopes on the east and west slopes that create the v in the valley. It could be possible to create an avalanche that would hinder the armies movement, partially blocking the road below.
the single goblin continues to walk alone toward the valleys entrance. The scouting group heads back to tell the others their findings.
As the holy site group examines the area, you are able to come up with some ways to defend better. There are basically 3 ways in, but your concerned about the north deer trail and the main trail from the west.
Here is a basic map of the area after some additional scouting of the area. Blue is a small river running through the valley and to the holy site. Brown is a road headed north to cache 3,4, and possibly 5. Brown also is a small deer trail (very little use) coming into the groove from the north, and continuing south
The area is a valley, with mountains on both sides (black lines). Dark black is impassible steep terrain. Grey is somewhat climbable with difficulty. You can also see cache 2 on the map (you climbed over from the west side of the grey slopes). (SCOUT GROUP IS ON THE GREY MOUNTAINS ON THE NORTH EAST, LOOKING AT THE ARMY FROM ABOVE.)
The scouting group quickly returns down the steep slope and returns to the main camp to report their findings. They enter the main yurt, where Sukhbaatar and Inauniq speak. Temujin breaks off to speak with Aisulu. "What did you see?" Sukhbaatar says, looking at the group. "We see one emissary approaching from the north."
Lira approaches Sukhbaatar, her tone grave as she reports what she saw. "This isn’t just a goblin horde—it’s an organized force with commanders, drummers keeping formation, and a central command unit. They’ve got ogres or trolls, and these...creatures with ogre bodies and rat heads pulling wagons filled with something moving inside. They’re disciplined and moving slowly, but if they reach us intact, we’ll be facing strategy, not just chaos. Tseren suggests a rockslide to break their formation."
"Hum, this is what we feared. We have angered their gods." He shakes his head. "And what of the lone emissary? I expect they will ask for our surrender or some such."
Temujin says, "I will go make preparations for a rock slide. Our time is short."
Baatar looks at the group. "What do you recommend? I am blinded by my sadness and anger." He looks again at the unfilled grave.
OOC: Any actions or preparations you would like to make here?
'If possible we should block off all entrances to the site. If we can funnel the goblins through a bottleneck, they will be much easier to pick off and that way, even a small force can hold their ground against a bigger foe.'
Baatar considers. "I don't like it but the only way I see to do that is to cut down some of the trees to block the paths in. They could still climb over, and some are small enough to climb under, but it would slow them down greatly." He thinks a bit, "some of us could also construct some traps. They would at least stop the initial invaders and perhaps help convince others not to come this way."
(You have three entrances North of the groove, South of the groove, and west of the groove
Which one do you start with if you take this action?)
"Greetings Aisulu of the Toa-Suo." The small strange goblin says, looking over the group. "I am Pleakluilk, a simple messenger from the great Cult of the Dragon King." He smiles as his eyes look over the group. "We have no quarrel with you or your people, nor do we wish to enter your valley."
Lira watches the goblin. He is eying the camp as he speaks, likely gathering intelligence on the terrain, numbers of people etc. He is very intelligent and calculating. He is also here for a very specific purpose, which he has not revealed yet.
Zarbyn follows the small group going to interrogate the messenger goblin.
"What are goblins doing this high up with all the cold?"
Seeing the goblin trying to pry for whatever it can get, "What is the message you sent to deliver?"

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”

'What kind of traps? And how quickly do you think we can get this place fortified?'
"Well, the longer the better but say 1 hour to stop an initial assault." (chop down trees to make the entrances more difficult to enter, nets, spikes, claw traps).
"We can get some of the people to help with different tasks."
Suddenly, you hear the sound of movement off to the north.
The sound of a fairly large creature walking through the forest with a deep, steady thud with each step, as their feet press heavily into the earth. Twigs snap and leaves crunch louder underfoot. The rustling of branches overhead and the occasional creak of a bending branch add to the powerful, grounded presence in the otherwise quiet forest.

Tserin studies them. “Maybe archer hunters. What are they hunting?”
”They seem to be headed to the old deer trail. Another way into our valley by way of the east ridge. We should head back and report.”
Perception: 23 (nat 20!)

A warrior enters the tent. (GROUP 1)
"A lone goblin approaches the camp. He is unarmed and carries a white flag. He is waiting to speak with someone."
Lev points out the place for the potential avalanche, a bit bothered when they decide to head back before implementing that idea.
If no one else moves to speak to the goblin then he will step forward.
Aisulu asks Lev and the others to join her in speaking to the emissary
They advance to the north side of the valley. 4 guards stand in the small goblins path and it sits on a small log waiting.
“Greeting emissary,” Aisulu says. “I am The high priestess Aisulu of the Toa-Suo people. Announce yourself and your intentions.”
Lira listens to the goblin, clearly skeptical of his words.
