Modoc will follow Eirikur forward and back him up but keeps his greataxe on his back. He'll say as they get closer but before Eirikur throws his spear, "We heard they were protesting on the river, but we haven't seen them cause this destruction. Maybe the ghost rock is unstable."
Modoc's words are enough to give Eirikur pause. A delay that may have indeed saved a life. "Wh-what do you suggest?" He says, struggling to contain his anger and now, self-doubt.
With that, Eirikur breaks from the group and marches right up to effective spear-chucking range. If nothing stops him, he will hurl the spear at the firbolg woman. A throw powered by the crushing weight of his own shame.

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"
Modoc shrugs, "I have friends in Verdestone and have listened to their strong opinions, but reveling in death and destruction of others is a real low. No one is going to sympathize with them acting like this. Maybe we can convince them to help? They have that magic to protect them. If they did cause this, we can certainly teach them a lesson they won't forget."
Eirikur looks toward his feet and ponders this far less bloodied recommendation for the briefest of moments. The screams and wailing in the distance expedite his decision. He chooses peace. "Right."
Eirikur returns to his march, lowering his spear point to the ground. "You there!" He calls out to the firbolg holding up the Verdestone insignia. "You have some protective magic. Can this be used to help shield you from the fires while we all work to retrieve those burning on the boats? People are dying and if we all work together, we might be able to save some of them."
The firbolg lady turns to Erikur and pauses as she listens to what is said. You can see she is reluctant to help. "I can safeguard a boat but after that you are on your own. They brought this unto themselves relying on the accursed Ghost rock"
Henry does indeed find a steamboat to commandeer.
Ms. Waverly the firbolg directs her group to cast a spell on the boat. "Good luck and I hope the people of Chicago learn a lesson this night"
Henry easily gets the steamboat moving. The commandeered steamboat plows through the dark waters, its paddle wheels churning with relentless force. The boat's massive smokestack belches thick, sooty clouds that trail behind like a shadow. Lanterns hang along the deck, their dim, flickering light barely penetrating the surrounding night. The water around the steamboat churns violently, creating a frothy wake that sparkles in the faint light. The rhythmic thumping of the engine echoes across the river, a heartbeat of steel and steam as the boat surges forward, slicing through the darkness with an air of determined urgency. The sound of the steam whistle pierces the night, a haunting wail that lingers in the air.
You see 2 steamboats on fire and with wounded people on both steamboats. There are 3 nearby barges with people on them who were caught in the blast.
"Should we head for the barges or one of the steamboats first?" Modoc asks the others. "I think we should pick a steamboat since they are on fire." Modoc readies himself to jump onto whatever boat or barge Henry steers them to.
Henry steers the steamboat alongside one of the burning steamboats. The steamboat, once a majestic vessel adorned with brass fittings and paddle wheels, now belches black smoke and flames that lick at the night sky. The air is thick with the acrid scent of burning wood, oil, and charred flesh.
On the deck, amidst the turmoil, wounded and dying crew members lie scattered with their faces contorted in pain or shock. The glow of the fire casts eerie shadows across the deck of the steamboat. You can hear the moans of pain and others just whimpering. Several bodies are on fire and no longer stirring.
Modoc will quickly jump onto the steamboat and gently pick up the closest injured crew member. He'll then turn and go as far as his movement (40ft) will take him and the injured person back to our commandeered ship. "Anyone who can walk, we're here to help." Modoc shouts, then asks, "What caused the explosion?"
OOC: Modoc can focus on bring people to the ship if others want to focus on healing/stabilizing them.

So, if you have not rolled initiative yet then please do so now.
