"Ok. Give me a sec, and I'll take a look."Dunkin scampers out of the cave and up the mild slope. His halfling senses immediately pick up the smell of smoke. Soon he finds the soot covered smoke hole. While too small for even he to squirm into, he can hear the sound of voices. After listening for a few minutes, trying to estimate how many individuals, on soft halfling feet he turns and scampers back to the party.
As he returns, slightly out of breath, he relates, "I found it. I could hear a few goblins talking, and what I can only guess is the bug-bear Klarg. Big Sneeze's info is looking more correct all along."
Nyli creeps along the passage away from cave mouth. The main passage drifts to the right and climbs steeply upward, the stream plunging and splashing alongside. Across the stream, a side passage leads farther west. In the shadows of the ceiling to the north, you can just make out the dim shape of a rickety bridge of wood and rope crossing over the passage ahead of you. Another passage intersects this one, twenty feet above the floor. A single goblin "patrols" the bridge. It sits on the edge of the bridge, its legs hang down over the water.
“Nyli you’ve gained my trust. Yet a good sneak an I don’t doubt ya know how to open locks. If you can help Sildar get free from here, I’ll do whatever you suggest.” Chase again reaches out to Nyli with a touch of guidance.

Vasha slides his greatsword back into the sheath on his back, its weight settling comfortably alongside the javelins strapped there. Without a word, he strolls over to the two goblin corpses, his steps calm and unhurried. Grabbing one by the scruff, he lifts it effortlessly, carrying it back to the cave entrance where the others wait.
With a casual motion, he drops the goblin at their feet, dusting off his hands as he straightens up. “Fresh meat,” he suggests with a slight smirk at Doldek.
“I like the idea, Vasha,” Dunkin’ says. “Let’s keep those dogs occupied, but that guard needs someone with a ranged attack. What do ya’ think, John and Nyli?”
I agree we need to take out the goblin as quickly as possible. 2 v1 is good but can anyone else shot or sling anything. Worst case it gets away and brings the whole lot back to us. As for the wolves. Did you say they where chained up? If so does one of you magic types now a quiet spell. Then just slaughter the poor beasts they won't be able to run. Just shoot me.
You get advantage if you are unseen. Goblin J will not see you if your Dexterity (Stealth) check beats its passive perception of 4 (9 with –5 because of disadvantage due to relying on Darkvision in total darkness) for sight. However, if your character lacks Darkvision or a light source, they will also have disadvantage on attacks because they do not see their target.
Regarding other senses, the stream and wolves are making enough sound to conceal almost anyone who's trying to be quiet and the stench of the cave will overpower most odors. This is merely tangential to getting advantage/disadvantage on attack rolls. If the goblin detects intruders through these other senses, it will attempt an active Wisdom (Perception) check and potentially see you.
“Not sure what the plan is but I can see in the dark. I could if you allow it use your crossbow John, I understand if you’d rather not. Just throwing out an idea.”
If this plan sounds okay Chase will borrow the crossbow head in quietly and shoot the sentry on the bridge…
“I can’t see in the dark and lack a ranged weapon so think those of you with dark vision should kill the sentry. I would also prefer to save my one remaining spell for more than 1 goblin. However, I’ll ready it and back you up. If the horde comes out, get behind me and I’ll cast it.”

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nyli's arrow sinks into Goblin J's leg. It's still alive. As soon as the adrenaline wears off and it realizes what's happened, it will scream for help.
Against the wall just outside the wolf cave lies a scattering of bones. His sight obscured by the goblin corpse he carries, Vasha accidentally steps on one of the bones. It snaps with a loud crunch. There seems to be no response from deeper within the cave.
A DC 15 Intelligence (Medicine or Nature) check reveals:
The humanoid bones are all elven or goblin. There are no dwarven or human bones, nor any halfling or gnomish ones. There are a few animal bones mixed in.
When Vasha tosses the goblin corspe into the wolf cave, the wolves immediately tear it to pieces. Vasha (and anyone who is spending any time at all in the wolf cave) make a DC 10 Wisdom (Animal Handling) check for them to tolerate your presence.
Because Chase had no access to a heavy crossbow, his heavy crossbow attack is void. Per Post #94, the two goblins assigned to watch the cave entrance had shortbows. They also have 7 arrows.
Nyli will launch another arrow at the goblin, hopefully before it makes too much noise. She will then head back to the others, how fast she retreats depends how much noise the goblin makes.

At the sound of John’s shot, Dunkin ducks his head and attempts to advance to the cave entrance on the left. This gets his friends out of the line of fire for the spell he has readied. If he makes it without taking an arrow or tripping, he lights a torch and peers down the left cave hoping to sense Sildar.
“They are chained, and making noise as it is. Should we stay low and sneak by? Is it a fight we can avoid?”
Dunkin pauses. “By the way, did anyone learn anything searching for the smoke vent?”
Chase speaks up, “I searched all over and couldn’t find it, but if you want to take a look I’ll help you skip past areas I’ve already checked.”

Nyli looks at the corpse "Poor wolves; being chained up is bad enough, but having to eat goblin as well? That's just cruel." She giggles.
"As for the guard, if the two of us take our shot at the same time there's more chance of an outright kill."
