"That is a possibility. That or he got lost in the fog. " The professor replied before carefully walking to Waldrym's side. He hesitated for a moment before he continued. "We'll be heading out shortly."
At the mention of a person short, Kaelith got up from his spot and moved towards the Professor and is probably wondering the same thing as everyone else, "who or what is missing?".
Intrigued Kaelith awaits the Professors next more!
"Well, your warning sounds like the opening line of a grand song Professor, one I am honored to be a part of and write!
I'm sure our tale will delight and bedazzle the youth of these lands for generations to come!
I'm sorry if there is another who is not here, perhaps their part of the tale comes later?"
The professor turned to Fergs and also shot a glance towards Kaelith. "I believe that you will have quite the tale to tell, definitely if this expedition is successful and hopefully I will still be alive to hear it once it's done. We're missing a Dwarf by the name of Gunther Korroden. But perhaps..." His voice trailed off as he heard the door open.
{To those close to the professor you can hear the faintest hint of sorrow laced in his voice at the end of the first sentence. It's almost as if he is hiding something from all of you. (This goes to everyone) If you would like, make an insight check.}
The Door to the establishment opens and a Dwarf trutts in. Sorry for my delay, this - he speaks a word in dwarvish which those speaking the language would recognize it as an equivalent to the f-word - fog had me walking in circles Gunther is on the taller side of dwarf and posesses a sturdy frame which shows his experiences in the mines, forges and temples. He wears clean travellers clothes with a scale shirt on top. On his right hip dangles a simple flanged mace, on his left there is a angled construct of wood and thin metal pipes. My name is Gunther Korroden and have been orderd by the church of Moradin to assist this group because of a common interest. It will be my pleasure. Now, did i miss anything important already?
{{Sorry, had a rather unexpectedly busy weekend}}
Hearing Gunther's voice the professor quickly turned around and smiled softly at him. "There is no need for apologies. I had hoped that the fog would have lifted by now, it was almost impossible to navigate through last evening." He takes a quick breath before motioning to the papers on the table. "We were just talking about the location of the relic."
With a 21 that the professor appears to be suffering from a sickness. There's a dullness in his normally bright bluish-grey eyes, his normally tanned skin looked as pale as the first snow of winter and there is a handkerchief covered in recently dried blood on it sticking out from his jacket pocket. It is likely that the artifact he has gathered you all here to locate may have some healing powers that could not only help with his condition but also help others who have contracted similar unknown or rare diseases.
Gunthar -
With a 16 you notice that the professor appears to be suffering from an aliment of some nature. While he still has the enthusiasm that he always has had there is a hint of sadness behind his dulled bluish-grey eyes. You can just barely make out the corner of a bloodied handkerchief in his pocket.
Waldrym-
With a 12 you can tell that something is definitely off about how the professor is acting. It's almost feels as if he's been hiding something from you and as he shifts towards the table you spot the edge of a bloodied cloth just barely sticking out from his jacket pocket. Perhaps those rumors of a man who looked a lot like the professor being sick were more than rumors after all.
Styma and Fergs-
With a 7 the both of you don't initially notice anything off. That is until he pulls a bloodied handkerchief from his pocket and raises it to his mouth before he starts to cough.
Waldrym's eyes narrows, fixing on the professor's jacket pocket. His thin, pale lips press together - a thought obviously occurs to him, but he keeps it to himself.
"Yes, about that relic. I doubt the fog will lift soon. We should get to the point, Professor."
Fergs pulls out his Cittern, and begins to play a soft song, sung in gnomish, just a few quick bars, then pats the professor on the back, "Tells us more about this artifact."
He tries to be as subtle as possible as he casts Cure Wounds for 7 points on the professor. He hopes that no one catches his action as he doesn't want to draw any attention to the professor.
Yes, the artifact. The church can only tolerate my absence for so long.
As he speaks he gives the professor a pat on the shoulder in a encouraging way. As he does so he expends 5 hp from his lay on hands pool to try and neutralize a disease.
Kaelith listens and responds in kind to the Professor noting he is unwell and clearing suffering form a significant illness.
He says, "Professor I can see the finding of this artefact is very important, even personally its important for you"
Kaelith looks around the room and says, "Let me conclude Professor, I am very interested in the assembled group here and it looks to me there is a very good chance we will succeed in locating this artefact you talk of". And with that looks to the Professor for more information.
Styma keeps quiet. She can smell it. The scent of prey on a friend is not one she can relish. She merely clenches her fists, and remains silent, careful not to give anyone to hungry a stare. Quite the challenge, in and of itself.
Rather than say anything, she looks to her friend and nods in assent, to aid as he requires.
The professor takes a breath as he realizes that the others have realized that his condition isn't the greatest at the moment. "The artifact is known as The healer's blessing. It has been said that it can cure any ailment, of course up until rather recently I had only believed it to be a myth but after having been given more information about it and the location of it from a trusted source I'm more inclined to believe it exists." He paused for a moment as he felt Gunthar and Fergs hands on his shoulder and back before taking another breath. Both the lay on hands and Cure wounds seem to have helped a little but not as much as they should have. "I've been doing my best to keep this a secret so that you wouldn't worry about my health but the Shadowgrave family has a rather unfortunate condition that slowly wears away at afflicted almost as if they were hit with a strike that'd cause necrosis... it's a slow and painful death but perhaps it can be cured by The Healer's Blessing."
"It is located in Durst Manor, or at least that's what my source called the house. While I don't know where exactly in the house it is but from what I was told a decade ago a group of adventurers had stumbled upon the location while trying to find a safe place to hold out during a storm. One of the adventurers was a Cleric who had been trying to safely bring the Healer's Blessing to her church..."
After listening to the Professor and Fergs questioning. Kaelith looks around subtly at the gathered group.
His investigation skills quickly assessing the situation before him | 14 | He feels the urgency of the task levelled at them all and for reasons new to him ... it excites his inner being.
"I suggest we gather any last supplies needed and make haste to this Durst Manor", Kaelith pauses .... and amends he's last by saying, "if this gathered company agrees of course".
Waldrym grimaces as the others cast their spells and expose a weakness that the professor had been trying to conceal. A family curse wasn't the type of thing mundane healing magics could cure, and now the man's pride and strength had been undermined. . . and now the group was making reckless haste.
"Professor, you said this pack of adventurers took shelter in the Manor. What can you tell us about this Durst family? What happened that the Cleric had to leave this artifact behind?"
"The Durst family was a lesser noble family that was composed of a mother, father, daughter and son. There was also a nanny and a baby but the baby and the nanny were both murdered by the wife. The husband locked their son and daughter in their rooms to protect them from their mother. The parents killed each other. The son and daughter managed to survive but they've been living on their own for a few years now, at the time they were eight and five. I'm not entirely sure what happened to the adventuring party but they most likely died."

Gunthar would try something similar to Fergs

"Indeed, let's head to this Manor and see what we can find!" Ferg agrees.
