Halila still bristles at the goblin for a moment. She's quite close to cursing him, but instead spins around and walks away. To the others she says, "Forms! Ridiculous! Do one of you have the TK... whatever it was? Is it even worth the gold? Where else can we actually get information?"
Esta listens to Zakhar, her frustration softening into understanding. She places a reassuring hand on his shoulder. “It’s okay, Zakhar. I know you’re doing your best, and I appreciate it. This whole process is just… maddening.”
She glances back at the stacks of papers, then nods decisively. “You’re right. Let’s not waste any more time here. We’ll find another way to get our answers.”
Together, they approach the rest of the party at the front counter. Overhearing the goblin’s grumbling, Esta shakes her head slightly. “Forget about the goblin,”she advises the group. “Let’s look for our own answers. Maybe Parisia can help us figure out what we need to do next.”
She scans the room for their guide, hoping to spot her and get some much-needed direction.
"I completely understand the wait,"Tyriel says in a voice that's a little too polite and formal. He looks from the goblin to his companions, "That doesn't mean I appreciate how no one told us we needed a blasted form. All they said was 'anyone can make a request'!" He shakes his head, still seething and for a moment letting that emotion show. "So, unless we can quickly fill out one of those forms, which I'm going to assume isn't possible without having to wait in line all over again, I suggest we find somewhere else to look." He crosses his arms, eying the goblin, "And maybe you people should set up some signs so that newcomers like us don't have such a terrible experience here."
Ugh, things were so much more orderly at home. Sure, souls still had to wait in line for ages, but... at least they all knew what their requirements were before they got to the end of that line! He shuts his eyes for a moment, letting out a long breath. "Come on, let's go." Clearly he's come to the conclusion that this isn't worth the trouble.
Zakhar blinks when Esta puts a hand on his shoulder. He seems to search her face for a moment before nodding. "Thanks...for understanding. Yeah, lets go." Walking back beside Esta he sees the rest of the party had made it to the end of the line...though as he suspected, things weren't going great.
"I agree, lets find Parisia." He sighs, "I still don't understand why she didn't tell us about any of these requirements either."
Sizzle reaches into his pocket and pulls out a magical jug. "How do you feel about bribes?" He asks under his breath. "I got whats called an Alchemy Jug here with your name on it if you'll expedite our request... we just need a few simple questions answered and we will be out of your hair... What do you say?" The goblin asks with a forced smile as she attempts to slide the strange looking flask towards the clerk
The goblin looked at the jug for a moment and back at Sizzle. "I mean I don't need a jug, I got one already. But I need the forms, that's how it works, okay? Come back when you have your forms and we will be glad to work something out."
Sizzle grumbles before opening the flask and chugging deeply from it as he locked eyes with the goblin. He chugged for a strangely long time since you would have assumed the flask would have been empty long before the goblin took the flask from his lips and wiped them with the back of his glove. He then turned and followed Halila out to find Parisia..
As you leave the building to find Parisa, you see her wandering the area a bit, talking to a few people here and there, perhaps planning for future clientele or catching up with other touts from the area. She catches sight of you exiting and begins to walk your direction. However, as she does so, a hush washes over the area, eclipsed by the march of heavy boots. Three officers of the Harmonium—burly guards in spotless, red plate armor—brandish menacing, clawed polearms in your direction.
“Halt, criminal!” demands one of the peacekeepers, a squinting human with a gold front tooth. “You’re under arrest for violating the laws of the multiverse. We can do this the easy way.” The menacing jaws on the Harmonium officers’ polearms snap open with a clink. “Or the hard way.” Parisa looks at you all nervously before she squeaks out a soft, "I'm sorry, but I can't go back to prison!" and she takes off into the crowds and disappears.
"Hey! Where you going?" Halila yells after Parisia. "We already paid you!" Her attention then turns to the burly guards. The one said 'criminal' - was he just looking for one of them? She takes a small step back, trying to be inconspicuous, just shifting her feet, not going anywhere. She tries to see if they are focused on anyone in particular.
Esta’s eyes widen in alarm as the Harmonium officers approach. She quickly pulls her hood up, trying to blend into the shadows at the back of the group. Her heart races as she whispers urgently to her companions, “Does anyone have something to distract them? We need to make a break for it. I don’t fancy getting taken in for no reason.” She glances around nervously, hoping someone has a plan.
Zakhar’s eye widens slightly when the guards show up. He’d been worried about something like this. Like Halila, he also catches the word criminal rather than criminals, who exactly are they talking to?
Before he says anything, he tries to locate his guard identification (not sure if he actually would have this right now or not. I’ll leave that up to the dm)
"She was a criminal!!!" Tyriel gasps. This doesn't do anything to improve his mood. "I can't believe I just paid a wanted criminal to show us around town."He clenches his teeth glaring in the direction that the centaur ran off in. If he hadn't already wasted what little divine energy he has earlier, then he might have flown after Parsia in order to help the town guards.
Her criminal status had to be why she didn't tell them about the needed paperwork. She just wanted them to keep coming back and pay her more. Yes that has to be it.
"We don't need her anyways," he says crossing his arms and looking towards the guards as they approach. He clearly is plenty confident that the guards are not after him... though he does side-eye some of the groups members as if suddenly questioning whether or not they are criminals too based on previous actions.
'Well, this doesn't seem good,' Halila thinks. She keeps to the back of the group if she can, letting Tyriel step forward to greet the guards. 'Did he say 'violating the laws of the multiverse?' What would that even mean?' She is curious to know more about what is going on. But she's more interested in not being thrown into prison. So for now she waits, but she's ready to run if it comes to it.
Unable to find his credentials, Zakhar sighs. The voice in his head still giggling as if all of this were just hilarious. He looks up at the guards, clearly with no intention to run, though he does move so that the rest of the group is behind him. "What law exactly has been broken?" He asks tiredly, "I believe we have a right to know why we are being arrested. What proof do you have that we are criminals?"
"Oh come on! They aren't giving you an option here! Just kick their butts and book it on out of here! It's boring enough for me to be stuck in your boring old head. The last thing I need for you to get this head stuck in a cell!"
"I'm not going to start a fight in the middle of the street, and I don't fancy being labeled a wanted man."
"GAH! You are HOPELESS!"
Zakhar ignores that comment and keeps a level gaze on the human guard.
"What! We aren't being arrested!" Tyriel blurts in disbelief. "We didn't do anything other than get scammed!"
He looks to the guards, still irritated at the fact that he has to look up so much in order to meet their gaze and waiting for them to respond to Zakhar's question. He still clearly expects the guards to just ask some questions at most. Surely they aren't getting arrested... what would they have done to warrant that? Unless....
His eyes slowly shift to Zakhar, then to the sky in an accusatory fashion before he turns his attention back to the guards.
"Hey! You cannot prove that I did anything wrong!" Sizzle grumbles before drawing his strange looking crossbow. The end of the weapon begins to glow and whrrr as he levels it towards the guards. "Maybe you guys can tell us what is going on... cause so far no one else has."
"You are to be taken before the High Courts of Sigil for your crimes against the multiverse. Your charges will be read during the proceedings. Now surrender and come with us." They step closer, pincer weapons brandished. You can quickly surmise that either you will go with them now willingly, fight, or you can make a run for it. What do you want to do?
