"Look, those 2 have way too much on their plates right now. You MIGHT be able to catch them at the Big Top Extravaganza or at the Cowning later this evening. The only other way would be if they invited you to a meeting themselves, but good luck with that! Ha ha ha!" He laughs as if to say you have no chance of that happening.
Chase looks disappointed. "Oh? And you wouldn't happen to know if someone else here knows where the fey crossing is located? It's not like Mister Witch and Mister Light are the only ones who might know, is it?"
He looks at Chaseand says, "If there is a fey crossing here they would be the only ones who know where. There are rumors floating around the carnival, but that's it. Just rumors."
He then shifts his gaze to Scratch and replies, "The only way I could think of would be to effect the carnivals mood in such a way that Mister Light takes notice. I'm not sure how he does it, but he knows the mood of the whole carnival and when that mood changes without even taking a step out of his caravan. If you were to cause enough trouble and make those around you upset, I'm sure they would send someone to collect you. Adversely, if you were to really enjoy yourselves here and improve the mood, they might choose one of you as the monarch at dawn. I'm sure they would want to have a conversation before the crowning."
Chasehad already been interested in that crowning thingie when the goblin at the ticket booth told them about it, and now she’s even more drawn to it. "Hmmmm, that sounds interesting. I wouldn’t mind being crowned! Queen Chase Lindailin, that does have a ring to it, doesn’t it?" she says, elbowing her twin as she says that. "Of course, I do prefer improving the mood rather than ruining it! Also, ruining the Carnival mood doesn’t sound like something Witch and Light would appreciate and make them help us, right?" she asks the rest. "So, what do you say, guys? Should we just run around the circus, trying our best to improve the mood around?" She asks, wondering if giving the button to the goblin dressed as a ladybug counted for that. "We could start going to the Big Top, there was quite a crowd there a moment ago. And I'd love to visit the Fortune Teller, too!"
Scratch scratches the side of his nose, a slight grin softening his features. "Improving the mood is definitely better than ruining it," he agrees. He looks again at Illuwen. "What kinds of things have people done in the past to get crowned?"
Thaco replies to Scratch's question with "Oh this is exasperating... to get crowned the Witchlight Monarch you have to bring the most joy to the carnival. Play games, partake in events, be merry and all that."
"I think it is pretty clear", Chase replies. Then she turns to look at the others and says "Shall we go make people happy? Do you like this plan or shall we go somewhere else?"
Scratch steps back and leans in toward Illuwen. "Do you know of a way to arrange a meeting with Witch and Light other than through him?"
Illuwenshakes his head. "Not really. They do tend to show up when there's a problem, like he said, but we probably shouldn't resort to that unless there's no options left."
"If we can get one of you named as the night's monarch, that would be great! And if not... well, let's keep our eyes peeled and maybe we'll find some other clues around. The Big Top seems like as good a place to start as any, either way."
Scratch nods and then rubs his palms together. "I guess our best bet is to get Chase crowned." He looks around, taking a deep breath. "How shall we start?"
Chase adopts an expression of self-importance and declares, "I solemnly swear that I will be a kind and just monarch, and that I will treat my subjects with equality and kindness."For some reason, she’s already imagining that she—and no one else—will be crowned by the end of the day. Her tail almost puffs up with excitement at the thought, and eagerly says "Come on, let’s go to the Big Top. There’s a gorgeous tiefling fire-breather, and maybe we can do something to make his spectacle even greater!" As she speaks, she waves a hand surreptitiously and as Thaco uses his bubble-pipe once again, small fireworks appear alongside the bubbles. (OOC: Sleight of hand roll to try to do this stealthily. 15)
"Also, perhaps you could donate a couple of buttons to the goblin dressed as a ladybug. I might give him a few more," she says, glancing down at her chest and wondering just how many more buttons she can spare before her blouse becomes entirely unsuitable for public decency.
As you all are leaving, you hear a few whistles and crackles, then a shout and a thud from Thaco. As you turn to look back at him, you see he has fallen backwards from the crate he was sat upon and he has this look of shock and confusion on his face. With all that make-up on it makes it so much funnier!
As you make your way back to the Big Top you see that the Tiefling has concluded his act and another one has taken it's place. You see an Elf ballerina who doing a dance routine, not with other ballerina's, but with animated costumes that spring from a magic wardrobe!
Chase giggles mischievously when Thaco falls to the ground. Then, when the group reaches the Big Top and sees the ballerina dancing, she doesn't think twice and pulls out her old fold-up friend. "Come on, Lady Owlhorse, let's dance! Let everyone see that beautiful tutu of yours!"
As the fold-up friend dances Chase does the same, trying to imitate the ballerina's moves as best as she can. (Performance: 14)
Scratch can't help but laugh as well when Chase's trick causes the stubborn clown to fall from his crate. The act lightens his heart, and he almost purrs. Since getting the message from the fairy, his mind has been so focused on Illuwen and Chandler that he hadn't made room for levity. It was good to have a reason to have fun.
The male tabaxi follows his twin to the big top and considers how he might help the ballerina's act. Deciding to add a little drum beat, he produces a pot from his pack, sits, finds two torches, and attempts to beat on the pot in rhythm with the routine.
The corner of a smile peeks on Lex’s face as he watches Chase play her trick, and follows the others back towards the big top. “We can do this while looking around ourselves a bit. I’d like to scout out the lake, the hall of illusions, or the pixie kingdom for a pretty good chance at finding the crossing.”
The Elven ballerina welcomes the additions to her act with a smile. The crowd cheers with a mixture of laughter and applause. Eventually some small children decide to join in the fun! One by one the audience joins in until the whole Big Top has broken out in a huge dance party!
Chaseclaps cheerfully to the rhythm of Scratch's drum, and when the children join in, she commands Lady Owlhorse to prance playfully around their feet. After a moment, she pauses to take in the scene, her gaze soft and warm. Turning to her friends, her eyes alight with joy and her tail flicking with excitement, she says, "I think we've done a nice job here. Shall we try somewhere else? Lex, didn't you want to see the Hall of Illusions? I’d love to visit the Fortune Teller. They're right next to each other, so maybe we could head there now. What do you all think?"
Scratch hoots and laughs as the dance party erupts. As he feels it coming to an end, he does a final flourish on his makeshift drum.
Joining his sister, he agrees, "Yes, let's all go to the Hall of Illusions. We need to do as much as we can to make sure we get an audience with Mr. Witch and Mr. Light."
The party makes their way to the Hall of Illusions. This large tent is painted with a mural of shifting images that show grinning faeries diving into pools of color. The helical stripes of the tent’s pointed canopies rotate in spirals, and the whole display seems designed to befuddle onlookers. A glass cabinet stands near the entrance to this tent, and a clown dressed in muted garb stands at the tent’s entrance, blinking at you.
