((LOL was busy this morning helping hubby do things and letting him use the computer for a few things. Now that I've caught up to all of you off to running starts...looks at the poor character Karas...let me have some fun))
Thia skips into the busy tavern not even looking overly bothered by the heat though her hair is a bit plastered to her head with sweat. She had managed to catch a sight of Karas outside and can totally understand as the smell of the place hits her. Nothing one can do about a bunch of sweaty people crammed in a tavern trying to feel better with warm beer. She gives him a little wave and a smile in greeting before finally stopping by the ones talking to the woman with the lute at Du'Hast's table.
"Nice to see some friends on a day like this." She sounds all chipper and her attitude along with petite form makes her seem more like a kid.
She perches herself on a chair managing to sit cross-legged with ease due to her height and limber frame. She flicks a lock of hair behind an ear that had come loose of the tie at the back.

The door of the inn suddenly slams open causing a hush to fall over the room. An archetypical looking wizard strides in. His flowing white beard sways hypnotically with his steps and is mirrored by his long swaying grey robes. The tip of his grey hat flops about erratically, refusing to conform to the rhythm established by the rest of his ensemble. As he approaches the center of the room a young Halfling woman comes into view trailing behind him. Her shoeless feet make no sound that can be heard over the clunky steps of the wizard. She is dressed in brown pants, a yellow shirt and a blue jerkin. Her outfit is heavily and unevenly patched, evidently the result of years of hurried self-repair. She waddles awkwardly from the twin burdens of a book that is large even by Hulven standards and a Hulven sized backpack filled nearly to the brim. But she does her best to dutifully keep up as the wizard picks a spot in the center of the room and breaks the silence with a loud barking voice that sounds too young for any mouth that has that sort of beard attached to it.
“Adorable creatures of Callum,” the Halfling suddenly elbows the Wizard in the thigh, the wizard pauses for a moment before starting over. “adorable PEOPLE of Callum, I have a task that needs doing. The task isn’t too tough, I know some of you can do it! I Believe in you!” he says in a chipper voice, “There are a small number of undead that I need eliminated” he give the Halfling a look that seems to ask ‘is this really necessary?’ she nods and he continues” despite being kind of adorable in their own way. If you think this is something you can do, please come see us! I will pay you well for this service!”
The wizard and Halfling then go sit at a booth in the corner of the room and the normal low roar of conversation slowly resumes speckled with some awkward laughter at the new comers.
(note: I am on west coast and work late-ish into the night. so I wake up at about 10:00 PST, 1:00 EST. So I might be late to respond, to combat this, I will try to keep my intentions in my posts) (Also, what race is the wizard? I am assuming human?)
Wilrick is deep in his thoughts, not paying much attention to the singer kerfuffle. Assuming that Karas will go talk to the wizard (because he is in need of money *I think*), I continue working on my papers. Though, I am weary of the newcomers.
(Oh yes, sorry, human. And no worries, I've got some plans tonight and for the first half of the day tomorrow, so might get minimal further updates from me till tomorrow afternoon or evening)
I (Kalkano) leave Wilrick's table and approach the two. I look at the man and say "my friends and I may be up to the task but will need more information." I turn to the halfling motioning for her to come close. I lean in and ask her "has this man been treating you well?" (Assuming that halflings in this setting normally wear shoes I ask the following, if not, disregard the question.) Do you have any shoes?"
Karas give out a small laugh and walks up to the wizard. "Few undead you say? What? Collect 10 skeleton skulls?" "I'm in. Next time you want some killing done, don't hesitate to call Karas Incanni from the Knife Storm to do something"
Thia doesn't move from her seat, but is smirking as she listens to the wizard. "Well, looks like some fun is to be had one way or the other." She is watching Karas and Kalkano talk to the wizard and halfling.

Du'Hast is definitely up for some undead slaying and nods his head to Karas and Kalkano in approval of the mission in hope they work out the details.
(While their talking Du'Hast uses Divine Sense to determine if there are any celestial, fiend, or undead within 60 feet. The way the wizard called everyone creatures seemed kind of odd. Only takes an action to activate and lasts 1 round.)
Du'Hast turns his chair so he can see Karas and Kalkano's conversation with the wizard but continues talking to the singer with hopes to learn more about this robin hood type conflict that is in her song. Du'Hast also asks the singer (still waiting for her name) if she knows anything about the wizard that just entered.
(Halflings tend to wear shoes out of custom as they are usually born to Hulven parents. However, their feet are well suited to walking barefoot, and a number of them reject the concept of trying to blend in with the rest of society and instead embrace their own virtues)
"Oh certainly!" The Wizard says, "What information do you require? We will tell you what we can!"
The Halfling gives you a weary look, but with a deep strength of will and determination below it, "I will be fine, thank you for asking though, my burdens are of a temporary nature."
The Wizard looks at Karas a bit horrified, "What? No! That would be morbid! Just put them down, as painlessly and gently as you can..." His voice a bit pleading.
Du'Hast detects nothing with his divine sense. (Always a wise precaution though ;) )
The performer introduces herself as Cordelia and tells you the following story.
"Chaz was a shepherd and friend of mine since we were children. But I had aspirations of a grander life and dreamed of being a bard.At my behest, Chaz agreed to form a variety act with me that would perform weekly here at the Pucker Pig.Though Chaz is not... the sharpest, he had a he was surprisingly quick to pick up stage combat and weapon tricks. He also had a natural bravado that played well with the crowds.
But it was I who managed to catch the eye of Lord Owin. He hired me to providing entertainment for a private dinner party he was hosting. I thought it was my big shot, I was finally going to make it as a performer. But the nobles, while perfectly kind to me were rude and lightly cruel to the servants. It made me uncomfortable, I wanted everyone to have a good time, so I encouraged the nobles to let the servants drink as well.A few of the nobles who were magic hobbyist and began carelessly experimenting with some relatively simple cantrips.Though nothing went terribly wrong, a few small fires were set, and then extinguished, or so we believed. The entire party passed out a short while later, but some residual smoldering embers that had been missed caused a fire that soon set the entire house ablaze.Chaz spotted the smoke from the hills while he tended his flock and immediately came to help.Chaz found me trapped under a collapsed beam. And though he successfully rescued her, the beam damaged my spine, and I haven't been able to make use of my legs since.Chaz also managed to pull out the servants and a few of the nobles before the house was entirely engulfed. But, Lord Owin was not among those Chaz managed to save. However, his body was later retrieved and raised. But the associated costs of being returned from the dead along with the loss of his manor nearly bankrupted him. He blamed me for the disaster. On the grounds that my suggestion that the servants be allowed to share in the revelry left no one to keep the house safe.Owin managed to convince the magistrate of the same and he 'generously' sentenced me to live with my injury.Forbidding any cleric or healer from fixing my spine.
Chaz discovered after his feat of daring that people were buying him drinks. So he, and some of the other servants he rescued started a group to go around helping other common folks to support those in need and also preferably be bought more drinks. I expected them to get tired of the entire thing after a few months, but somehow it seems their numbers have been steadily growing, they go around calling themselves Virtue's Orchard now."
Thia totally believes what the singer is saying and tucks away the name of the group run by Chaz for future reference. One never knew when they might need some extra help.
Looking at the Wizard though, she has doubts about him and tries to determine what makes him odd. (rolling insight even with my pluses I get a 10! I blame the heat.)

Du'Hast also files away the name of the robin hood type group for later and expresses is sympathy to Cordelia's (singer) injuries.
My paladin is sworn to exact vengeance on behalf of others that can't do it themselves. Du'Hast asks Cordelia, in the nicest way possible, if she desires for Lord Owin to be punished for his ill perceived notions about her being the cause of the fire and for not healing her injuries that were cause by Lord Owin's magic wielding fools. If she says yes, I take a mental note to add Lord Owin to my small but ever growing Vengeance list (like the Green Arrow).
Hopefully that wasn't too awkward, but if she is still willing to talk or before she steps away, I ask Cordelia if she could tell me anything about the Wizard and Halfling that just burst through the door.
(Sorry everyone! Yesterday turned into quite a busy day)
Thia also isn't able to gather much insight into the wizard. She have a vague sense he's not adopting an affectation, and his strange behavior accurately reflects his personality.
The wizard smiles at Karas, "Of course! We were going to pay 50 gold to the group that did this service for us... but you're so cute... I think we can up it to 75!" The Halfling lets out a sigh and rolls her eyes.
(Most of the population is half elven or Hulven as they've taken to calling themselves. Humans and Elves as far as being that race mechanically go, just mean you're pretty much a half elf whose traits are dominated by either their human or elven genes. Being drow is a rare recessive trait, much like being a Halfling or a tiefling, and is often met with a bit of racism or suspicion that you come from a dubious pedigree. Or that poor morals on the part of the parents could result in the child being born a drow or a tiefling. This does not have a basis in reality however)
Karas takes a good look over the room. We are indeed far from pirate territory, though in desperate times pirates will occasionally target river barge traffic, but avoiding the authorities on a river is vastly more difficult than in open water and a risk rarely taken. The bar seems to be filled with simple common folk. Though a number of them seem glad of the entertainment this discussion with the wizard seems to be providing, especially since their minstrel has been distracted and ceased playing for the moment.
You notice a brief look of temptation on Cordelia's face. Then a brief expression of fear before going stone face. "No... of course not, I would never wish harm upon a noble, he was only teaching me a lesson so I could learn from the error of my ways and be a better person in the future." She then looks at you suspiciously, then turns the look around the room.
"Thank you Kalkano, see to it that this task is taken care of and we'll be much obliged. We may have future work for you if you do a good job with it." You do not require a perception check to attempt to see the title of the book, though curiously the book's cover is completely blank.
