As the group enters the barn, you notice that it looks even more decrepit from the inside. A few lanterns sit atop wooden crates or barrels that have been left to rot. Some hay can be found at the corners of the building, but most of it is located on a hay loft above. A ladder at the end of the barn opposite to the open doorway leads to the hay loft 10 feet above the barn floor. The loft is 40 feet long (i.e. half of the length of the barn) and 30 feet wide (i.e. the entire width of the barn), directly above the end of the barn opposite the door. Rusted farm implements lean against the barn walls and burlap sacks rest against the wall near the ladder opposite the main entrance.
A sinewy elf in gray clothes smiles at three humans behind her. “I told you they would come. A dragon egg is much too valuable to pass up.” The elf turns back to you, calling for the party to halt once you get within 20 feet of her. “Now, let’s do this quickly. Here is what you asked for.” She holds in her right hand a very large hide backpack toward you. “You throw the payment over to me, and we will leave the egg here. We will exit the barn, and then you can leave after five minutes have passed. No fuss, no muss.”
The she-elf is wearing simple clothes, traveler's, but makes sure the incoming party sees the shortsword strapped to her waist. Her left hand rests on a crossbow, hand. Her three human companions wear some sort of armor beneath their tabards, each visibly wielding a shield and a spear.
(OOC: it really annoys me that I can't write traveler's clothes or hand crossbow)
Cato thinks of all the students he has had who have tried to pull one over on him, then of his excitement at being able to examine a real red dragon egg. "No, I'm afraid that will not do. My lady requires that I take a minute to examine the ovum; to verify its authenticity. No offence intended, but one must be careful. Do not worry, we have the full payment." He rattles the bag of gems enticingly. "Besides, in my ladies infinite wisdom, she has insisted I bring along something extra, for your trouble." He tucks his walking stick in his pack and holds out open palms to show that he is unarmed. Then he begins walking toward the egg.

“Hold on. Something is not right here. You stop right where you are.” She points her crossbow, hand directly at Cato. "I didn't say you could come any closer, and I'm the one dictating the rules here. In our last communication your 'lady'didn't say anything about a servant, or a whole posse for that matter. She was supposed to come along with one mercenary and no more!"

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"WHAT?!" she yells out. "This isn't a social gathering or a pleasant walk through the fields to bring your beau along!" the elf says with more than a hint of confusion while staring at Orla.
Changing her gaze towards Cato she asks "Are you mad? What 'other buyer' are you talking about? You are supposed to be the buyers here!"
"That's it, boys. We've been taken for fools. Let's get out of here." With a swing of her arm, the she-elf lets the egg fly out of the sack, dropping it downwards with some speed. You catch a glimpse of the brownish-red, scaly oval before it hits the floor with a thunderous blow. A bright flash overtakes the room.
(I need all five of you to roll both a CON saving throw [DC 13] and initiative. Those who fail the saving throw start the combat with the blinded condition until the end of their first turn.
After rolling your initiative, feel free to open the spoiler box below to see the enemies' initiative:
Charlotte chimes in, looking at Orla: "Maybe this wasn't a mistake after all, my dear. I knew you couldn't handle something this important by yourself."
She then looks at the elf, puts her hands up as to show the absence of weapons, and takes one step forward. "Look. We're here to cooperate and do this at it was convened. My girlfriend here will ask her secretary to hand you the payment; but before anybody leaves this barn, we would simply like a peak into this satchel. This is just a matter of common sense; I mean, you couldn't possibly think we would be leaving this place without inspecting the egg, did you?"

(OOC: Duuuude that was with a +5! WHAT IS HAPPENING.)
(OOC @Yayabeams: it looks like we made our respective last posts at the same time. We can say that Charlotte’s line got in there just before the elf’s reaction and that, with the low persuasion check, she just ignored what Charlotte was saying, lost in her confusion and all... What do you think?)
(OOC: Yep, that looks good. Thanks for the post, pokepaladdy. For information, let's use DEX scores as the tiebreaker for tied initiative rolls).
