I had been eagerly eating from the bowl of stew, dipping the slightly hard bread in it, when the loud roar sounded. With a reaction that was pure instinct, I slide down out if the chair and hide beneath the table. After realizing that the sound is continuing, I quickly peek up above the table and grab the bread and stew. Danger is clearly afoot and I'll be damned to the Nine Hells if I face it hungry. I huddle back under the table and finish my meal as quickly as I can.

I had already finished my meal and bath and was resting by the fire in the main hall when the sound caused everyone to stop what they were doing and run to look outside. I follow the crowd and look up at the titanic man falling. As I study him, I think back through my training and try to identify him.
(I'm not sure how to roll skill checks on here, but I'm using my Arcana skill +5, based on Int 13). 21
I watch it fall for a few moments to see if I can guess which direction and how far away it will fall. "By the Oakfather! Wherever it falls, many will perish and the land will suffer greatly!"
Old Norb, who had been talking to passers by about falling stars, looks up and sees a giant one falling! "Ah ha ya see! There! You young whipper snapping city folk. Never head my warnings. Well there's no sense running and hiding." With that Norberos sits on a bench and watches the giant mountainesque man fall from the sky. He takes out some nuts and munches on them offering them to anyone who comes and sits with him
Aymar hesitates as his nerves start to get the best of him, but seeing these folks jump into action inspires him and he charges out in to the street. Taking in the chaos he searches for someone in charge and, hearing the booming voice of Korath, Aymar runs to his location. After pushing his way through the crowd of people, and stopping briefly to help someone to their feet before getting trampled, he approaches Korath. "What the hell is that?"
Aymar clutches his wooden staff and prepares for the worst. Keeping a lookout for anyone that looks to be in need. (15 Perception, rolled on DnDBeyond. Also not sure the best way to roll on here, been a while lol)
Korath turns to meet Aymar’s gaze, uncertainty flickering in his sharp amber eyes for just a moment before he steels himself. “A… Fallen,”he says, his voice tinged with disbelief. Even speaking the words feels unreal. “It’s happened once before, long ago—no one truly knows what it is, only that it’s powerful.”
He takes a deep breath, trying to suppress the unsettling thought gnawing at him. “We’re going to need every able hand to keep people safe,” he continues, regaining his composure. The people of Highbrook don’t need to see his doubt. They need strength, and that’s what he has to provide.
Gesturing toward the chaos unfolding around them, Korath’s expression hardens. "Even if it misses the city, the effects will be devastating... Shockwaves, debris, maybe worse."
He turns back to Aymar, his voice calm but urgent. "We can’t stop it, but we can save who we can. Stay sharp—keep an eye on the people around you. If this is what I think it is, we’re only just beginning."

After finishing my meager meal, I notice that nearly everyone is still outside so I wander in that direction. While I walk past the tables, I notice someone had left a silver piece on their table, presumably to pay their bill. I walk smoothly past and try to pick it up without anyone who remained inside noticing. (Sleight of hand +7) 22
I follow everyone outside and look up at the terrifying huge portent of doom above and hear Old Norb talking about it as though he knows something. I walk over to the bench where he's sitting and climb up on it to sit next to him. "So you said you knew this was coming? What can you tell me about, my friend?" I smile and take a handful of nuts while listening to him. Maybe he's just an addled old man, but maybe not. I was always taught to keep my ears open, especially around Big Folk. Sometimes you can hear secrets that can be more valuable than their coinpurse.

I hear someone speak about something similar happening long ago and I struggle to remember if I had heard my elders speak of it. (History +1)16. I hear a dog whimper and I look around for it. I spot the grey furred mixed breed huddling against the building, hiding behind some people. I walk over to him and lower myself, extending a hand palm down so he can smell me. Reaching inside to my magic, I Speak With Animals and talk to him.
"You're a good boy and I have an important job for you. Will you help me? I need you to go around town and howl. Tell the dogs to hide their pups, hide their mates, and hide their people. Can you do that for me?". I rub his head and ears for a minute then stand up.
Richmond Autumnscar enjoying his last patrol as a young cadet in service to the standing militia, come morning his shift ends as does his service. Stationed in town as a special attachment to the city guard, his last duty station has been nice and easy.
What in the nine hells is that? as he notices the object, no the man falling from the sky. Grabbing his horn he gives it the three quick blows to alert others on duty to danger, then sprints to the center of town. He immediately spots the half orc doing what he can to usher others to safety, running to his side he blows the horn again, three quick burst of sound, then starts assisting the half orc getting as many as possible to safety.
Norberos sits and watches while offering nuts to the youngster who sat near him. "The stars have been falling a lot more as of late....It was only a matter of time before a big one came crashing down." Norb pauses a moment and eats a few more nuts before offering them one last time and putting them away.
He looks and smiles before saying "I glide through the dark on a shimmering trail, A fleeting flash, or a spirit frail? Born in the sky, I fall to the land— Am I mere dust, or a higher hand?"
Seeing that the impact isn't immediate, Gurog hurriedly speaks to the family huddled in fear beneath him. "Quickly now, it looks like they are gathering everyone to move to somewhere safe." Looking around he sees that the ones organizing the crowd is a half-orc, a young cadet, and a druid. "Follow me over here, they will take care of you." With large strides and the family half-running to keep up, Gurog joins the others in the center of town and the family joins with the rest of the citizens. Standing heads taller than the group Gurog speaks, "Good job evacuating these people. My name is Gurog, let me know if you need anything to help! We don't have much time before *that* happens!" (vaguely gesturing behind and above him where the man is falling). Gurog then runs over to the child he heard yelling on his way over here. "What do you know of this falling man?! Tell me quick for time is short!" It was not his intention to frighten the child (why does it always have to be so hard to deal with people!), but she gasps in fear, her crying cutting off immediately, seemingly stuck in her throat. She begins to shake as this 7.5 foot goliath ran at her and is now looming over her demanding answers. Intimidation: 23

I see everyone moving off towards the town center when I hear the child yelling about the scary man. Then this huge man, a goliath perhaps, comes over and starts demanding answers of her. The child immediately quiets in fear. "Stupid Big Folk." I mutter and hop down from the bench and make my way over to the child. I walk over to her and gently take her in my arms. I hold an imperious arm out towards the big man. "Stay back! You're going to frighten her to the death and we'll get no answers."
I take a minute and hug the child who is slightly bigger than me. "Don't worry, young one. I'll protect you from the big bad. Can you tell me, did you see that big thing in a dream? What happened?" (Persuasion+2)21

Some town guards arrive shortly after I deduce that the falling man will miss the town proper. I go over to the guardsman who began leading people to the town hall. "Good sir, the people should stay out of doors! When the earth moves, walls will crumble and roofs collapse.
Rich notices the little girl crying, he grabs the half orc and the elf by the arms, route everyone to the town hall, and points to it, and don't stay here too much longer. He then runs to the little girl, scoops her up, telling it's ok and runs her to the town hall. He'll pass her to one of the other women seeking shelter then run back to the front of the building, blowing his signal horn to get peoples attention and waving them in.
Norberos sighs and gets off the bench. He decides to follow everyone else to wherever it is they are running to. He slowly walks along with the use of his walking stick following everyone else
“Keep moving! The town hall will hold!” Korath shouts after listening to Rich, his eyes constantly scanning the streets for anyone left behind. Despite the growing tension in the air, his mind is focused—Valenor’s tenets of protection and fairness drive him forward.
“Go! Get inside!” Korath commands, staying at the entrance to make sure no one is left behind.

I head towards the town hall alongside the others, but remain outside of the walls, walking around them and touching their sides while praying in elvish. "Sylvanus, Oakfather, strengthen the stone and wood in these walls. Protect those who shelter within." Sylvanus isn't really known for appreciating civilization, or humans in general, but perhaps he will extend a hand in aid. After finishing my circle of the building, I take a position near the door but outside of the hall.

I'm holding and questioning the girl child when some running human scoops her up and takes her away. "Yondalla, save me from the stupidity of Big Folk." I mutter softly while heading towards the town hall. It's easy to follow the stream of people running towards the town hall, so I make my way there relatively quickly. I head inside and try to find that particular child. Perception+1 12
Gurog hopes the girl is ok… he always has such good intentions. He shrugs, nothing he can do about it now. “I wish that tiny man didn’t interfere”, he thinks to himself, “she probably would’ve told me all about that man in the sky before being taken away!” Seeing that the evacuation is progressing smoothly, Gurog stands by the others at the front door. They look at him and he gives a small nod, giving them his respect. Anyone that is willing to put themselves at risk to help others is ok in his book. “That guy is sure taking his time falling” he says aloud.

It does not look like the man will land on the city, but the resulting earthquake and shockwave would not be good.
You see a child, separated from her parents crying and pointing at the man, screaming “I know him! He’s scary!” Over and over.
“The town hall” was a castle built during the third age of war to defend against goblin invasions. If it’s held up this long, it should be safe.

you haven’t heard the elders speak of this, other than in fables and stories that obviously weren’t true- right?
