Zinlynn and Rich lead the new group to the temple, passing by shocked groups of townsfolk gathered in small knots, discussing and wildly speculating about the giant figure. Some hardy folk are already cleaning up the damage and debris, but at least they don't pass anyone looting!
(I recognize that describing the environment and the actions of all other figures is usually the DM's job - as players we are only supposed to describe our own character's actions and thoughts. But so far this type of harmless narrative seems to be OK...)
Despite the uncertainty in the air, Korath feels a swell of pride. The people of Highbrook aren’t looting or falling into chaos.
As they approach the temple, Korath keeps a watchful eye on the streets and his companions. "These people are stronger than they know," he murmurs, more to himself than anyone else. "We’re building something here, even if it’s slow. Balance takes time. It is one of Valenar's tenets, in fact."
aye friend, they are strong and a good people. I dislike the priest though, well the temple as a matter of fact. Always trying to get me to join, something about how the gods need strong men of arms. Seems to me the gods may have benefited more from a pair of dragons wings than strong armed men.
Korath nods in agreement with Rich, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. “The temple’s never been particularly welcoming to me, even as a fellow cleric,” he says, his voice calm but resolute. “Something about my blood and my ‘foreign god’ makes them uneasy. But faith isn’t something I practice by sitting around inside stone walls, anyway. Valenor calls for balance, and that requires action—out here.”
He gestures to the streets, where townsfolk are rebuilding and standing strong, despite the confusion and fear. “Faith is in what we do, not where we sit.”
As you walk into the temple with its shining gold doors and tall beams of sculpted stone gilded in gold, and see a rather rotund, bald monk awaiting you. “Ah, the hero’s” he says “I have been told of your coming by the mayor. Come to the waiting area with me.”
if any of you would like, you can make a perception check.
rather odd that the mayor sent you word and we came straight here from his office, as far as I know the mayor had no foreknowledge of us visiting the temple...watches the monks reaction, insight roll 20
Zinlynn looks around the temple (Perception: 15) to see what it was like. She vaguely remembered going to a different one as a little girl, but it had been many years since she had actually entered a temple or church...
As Korath steps into the temple, his sharp amber eyes immediately take in the grandeur of the place. The shining gold doors and tall, sculpted beams, gilded with intricate golden designs, speak of opulence and divine reverence. However, the display feels excessive to Korath—too much focus on wealth and splendor, not enough on the essence of faith.
He glances around, studying the carvings and symbols (Religion: 24).
You all hear a priest (failing) to whisper to a peer. He mutters, “ Don’t you think it’s odd that the new brother came to the temple armed and armored in such a time of peace? He also says oaths and drinks- that directly goes against Sol’s teachings!”
Korath, you finally put two and two together. This is the temple of Sol, a monument to the god of just warfare, odds and balance, but above all, the sun. He is quite real, (as recent situations seemed to have proven-“ but is not so widely worshiped. The priests of Sol quietly made their way into the existence about a century ago, claiming to be the sun god’s chosen.

“Ah, he sent a runner ahead of you.” The man says, “nothing to be worried about.” The man seems a little befuddled, but from what you can tell, it only has to do with the seemingly divine Fallen.
Korath’s steps falter for just a moment as the full weight of his revelation strikes him. He forces his face to remain neutral, not wanting to draw attention from the monks, but inside, he feels the impossible notion unraveling his understanding. A god fallen, dead. The mere thought of it shakes him.
He turns his head slightly, catching the eyes of his companions without breaking stride. With a subtle gesture, he motions for them to stop, allowing the monk to move ahead a few paces. When they’re out of immediate earshot, Korath leans in close, his voice low and urgent.
“Listen,” he murmurs, his gaze flicking to the golden walls around them. “This is the temple of Sol—the god of balance, just warfare, the sun itself. That man… the one who fell… I think he was Sol. A fallen god.”
"I didn't know Gods could die! This is incredible. We need to get over there as soon as possible to examine Sol in person. Let's do what we came to do and get over there before others disrupt the scene and mess with the body." I also look around to see if there are bottles or sealed containers I can take stealthily so that I can collect some of Sol's hair, blood, etc later. (empty oil flaks or waterskins, etc) Sleight of Hand, Nat 20 + 4 = 24
Zinlynn also says quietly, "And who is the new brother I overheard one of them complaining about? The one who recently arrived and doesn't fit in with the others? I wonder if that's the tall, scary man?"
Zinlynn will proceed to the waiting area with the group but is not at ease based on their latest revelations!
