Faelin looks up at the mention of his name and idly looks around, “Hmm? No, not him. That’s me.” His blue and silver eyes, eyes that resemble the cosmos, settle curiously on Sylnache. “And who might you be?”
He turns to the gnome, “I would like to read over the clauses before agreeing to anything. Although.. It might save time if you just told us of anything that could be to our disadvantage.”
Faelin will subtly cast Charm person on the gnome.

"Umbriel. But close enough." He remarks with a hint of amusement.
He watches Faelin closely as he addresses the gnome, noticing the slight shift in energy when the aasimar begins subtly weaving magic. Clever. Umbriel had been wondering about the specifics himself, and Faelin’s approach might get them answers quicker.
His fingers idly trace the edge of the contract again, his mind weighing the risks and benefits. Sylnache’s blunt question rings in his ears, and after a moment, he responds quietly.
"I'm considering it. Contracts like this are always dangerous, but...curiosity tends to win out over caution, for me at least."
His eyes dart briefly to the gnome. "Let’s see if our friend here reveals anything we should be more concerned about."
"I'd be curious, too, what we have done to catch the attention of the Guild. I would imagine such offers are not made lightly."

Umbriel, you scan through the documents and find nothing hidden there are many benefits, the fact that the guild asks for no disclosure of information and lays claim to findings of mission specific importance are expected details. Otherwise it is a straight forward set of terms. You feel the gnomes admiration and sense his slight intimidation when Sylnache approaches. You also know the moment he succumbs to Faelin’s ‘charm’.

Sylnache didn't notice the spell that was cast, her focus being on the others now gathered rather then the gnome. Of course she had no talent for magic so likely would not have recognized the spell even if she had noticed.
"Umbriel, Faelin." She nodded a greeting, this time to the correct person respectively, before turning to the third in the group, "So ya must be Tyr then. Well met. Like the gnome said earlier, I'm Sylnache Ashrain." She looked over the group again as she added, "I'm curious what choice you'll all make. For myself, I'd say this seems like a good deal. Umbriel listens quietly as Sylnache introduces herself properly this time, his sharp eyes flicking to each person in the group. He gives a nod of acknowledgment but keeps his thoughts guarded, still mulling over what he’s gleaned from the contract and the gnome’s words.
"The deal is straightforward," he begins, his voice steady but measured. "There’s nothing hidden in the paperwork. The guild offers benefits—resources, protection, discounts, and they claim anything we find that’s deemed important to their mission."
Umbriel’s gaze turns to the gnome, Jorge, a flicker of something more personal crossing his face as he speaks. "I’ll agree as well. But only on one condition—my maps. If the guild must take them for any reason, they are never to be destroyed or altered. Those maps are my legacy. If they’re claimed by the guild, they stay intact, or we have no deal." He casts Thaumaturgy to make his voice boom in an attempt to intimidate the gnome, but it falls flat (Intimidation 5). Imposing his will on others is not his forte, just as he hates to be imposed upon. Still, it is clear that this is a matter of great importance to him since he bothered to try.
Tyr listens idly to the others, turning the contract over in his hand and considering the terms of the deal. This could get us some sorely needed resources, Tyr thinks to himself, and that giant script...
He flicks his eyes up to the gnome when the man begins to speak to the truth of the guild's goals, feeling cynicism take hold again, Of course. Competition always comes first. He nods in recognition of Sylnache's introduction,"Tyr, yes. I'm glad to meet you all. I think I will also agree to sign. I am," Tyr pauses, seeming to temper his words, "Curious, about what will become of this guild."

You are surprised to see that during the process several desserts have been set out… a tray of honey rolls, a carrot cake, and what looks like a mini volcano (it’s even steaming) as well as a couple bottles of liquor (a very rare commodity).
“Now as to the recovery assignment…” If you also agree to track down the missing explorer team, the details of their proposed route and estimated travel time will be turned over to you as well as the details of their mission.

"Good to meet you Jorge." Sylnache replied to the gnome. After listening to Umbriel's comments, she was convinced there was no trick to worry about with the contract. She was also surprised to hear Umbriel confirm he was the author of the high quality maps on display. It was reassuring to know such a skilled guide would be among the group.
"Ha! If I had any doubts left, you've convinced me, mapmaker." Sylnache reached out to grab her contract, signing it without hesitation, letting Jorge finish the paperwork and collect the vials. She was now more interested the freshly delivered desserts, taking a double slice of the carrot cake to enjoy while watching the others finish matters on their own terms.
Umbriel feels a faint sense of satisfaction when Sylnache sees the value in his opinion, but an unease lingers. He hadn’t meant to so openly reveal his identity as the cartographer, not to this group, not yet. His eyes flicker to Tyr when the man speaks, and a wry thought crosses his mind—curiosity, it seems, has cursed them all.
Sighing, his tail lashing behind him thoughtfully, Umbriel picks up the quill and signs his name with fluid precision. “I hope you’re all ready to match your curiosity with your talents,” he says quietly, casting a glance at the others. “I’m a guide, not a miracle worker.”
As the contract is finalized and his blood is drawn, Umbriel watches with mild fascination as it drips into the vial. It looks... normal, plain red like anyone else’s. For someone who feels his heritage marks him in every other way, he is always a little surprised not to bleed an appropriately green or venomous shade.
Turning his attention away from the now-sealed deal, he eyes the steaming dessert volcano on the table. He’s never seen anything quite like it, not even in the most exotic lands he’s mapped. The sheer oddity of it piques his interest more than he expected. With the blood draw making him feel just a little light-headed, he figures he could use something to eat.
Grabbing a fork, he pokes at the dessert volcano with his usual wariness. "Fascinating," he murmurs, his analytical mind momentarily distracted by the strange treat.
Tyr moves to sign his own contract and allow his blood to be drawn, smiling wryly at Umbriel's comment but not responding. He'll let the others move towards the dessert table, and once they are a distance away he'll touch Jorge's shoulder and lower his voice, more out of habit then out of any actual mistrust of the group. "Jorge," Tyr pulls the invitation from his spellbook and gestures to the watermark, speaking almost urgently, "Could I ask who wrote this invitation? Who here is familiar with this phrase?"

The gnome is busy arranging his cart setting the vials into a secure box, placing each set of papers into scroll tubes…
If Tyr suggests meeting Fjörn, Jorge wheels his cart out of the room and when he returns about ten minutes later he is accompanied by a much taller handsome man in his 30’s perhaps. Jorge walks to the table nearest all of you and sets a pouch upon it pulling several malachite stones out. Presumably- Fjörn, shyly approaches Tyr, “I was told you wanted to see me, Sire.”

Umbriel had been entirely absorbed in the dessert volcano, his fork slicing through the surprisingly soft surface only to reveal a rich, steaming chocolate sauce inside. It was almost absurd in its decadence, but after the blood draw and the heavy weight of the contract, the indulgence was welcome.
But his attention snapped back to the conversation as soon as he spotted Fjörn entering the room. He leaned back slightly, the fork still poised in his hand as he subtly listened in, curiosity piqued by Tyr’s sudden shift in tone. As Tyr gestures toward the rest of the group, Umbriel offers a small nod of acknowledgment, though he remains quiet for the moment, observing the interactions closely. He would let Tyr ask his questions first, but Umbriel’s own interest had been stirred as well.
Fjörn takes a moment to think before rushing into a quick explanation, “I have worked as an archivist here for the guild since it was established four years ago. Before that I was a student of history, well mostly oral which I recorded in my journals through out my life. You sir… Tyr, are my inspiration. I have had the fortune to know and meet many strong survivors, but only you as far as I can account for were there not only through the Skyfire but before. I’m told you witnessed, I’m sorry it must be terrible to remember. I hope I’m not upsetting you. It is my wish to record your story someday sir, um Tyr. If you would allow me. As for the displays, well I interview some new arrivals most explorer members and others. The names Umbriel Sylnache and Faelin are spoken of as exceptional and I use my connections to learn whatever I can about such individuals. Oh Umbriel your map it was in the possession of a former member, Jorge said you were proprietary in regards to its integrity, well it is your map. I will never let it be altered you of course may claim it if you wish. The painting was commissioned by a passenger later an explorer whose life he felt he owed to you Sylnache. Faelin young lady Sara has taken a great joy in the music I have tried to preserve from those who’ve taken great patient strides in helping me record it. This was the most challenging of all without Sara’s musical talent I wouldn’t have been capable of preserving such treasure.”

It was all a bit awkward for Sylnache to hear of the origin of the painting, not to mention the confirmation that it did indeed depict her and a deadly moment in her past. She wasn't accustomed to anything like this level of fandom.
"Heh, I'd tell your explorer friend that he owes me nothing. We're all just lucky to survive that voyage." Sylnache replied with an awkward half smile before returning her attention to the carrot cake.
Umbriel listens quietly, taking in Fjörn’s explanation. His interest piques when the archivist mentions Tyr’s connection to the Skyfire—the event that changed everything. Umbriel had only heard fragments of what life was like before, and it was clear that Tyr’s story stretched back farther than most. Interesting, though he could understand if the man would rather not discuss those times.
The ranger feels a small flicker of relief at Fjörn’s words, even if he doesn’t show it outwardly. The idea of his work being altered or misused had gnawed at him, but Fjörn’s earnest promise to preserve it intact is enough to put that fear to rest—for now. "It can stay," Umbriel says, nodding. "As long as it’s kept in its original form. You seem as intent on preserving history as I am on documenting the land."
He casts a glance at Faelin, piecing together that the aasimar is or was a musician. And Sylnache, well, she’s exactly as she presents herself.
“Yes well um to the business of your first assignment…” Jorge explains that the malachites are an advance on your payment. He reiterates that should the original party be found they are to be accompanied back otherwise should they be found slain their remains are to be recovered. The guild only has interest in the two potions of giant strength any other items of value are yours to claim. Should they not be found you have ten days to report back or the mission will be deemed a failure. The labor union is vested in this mission and willing to help should you choose to use their resources speak with Bounder Huskman he will go over any deals they offer. A scroll containing the details of the first parties mission is turned over to whomever takes it.
Take the day if needed check in as you leave town, tomorrow at the latest if possible. This is a good opportunity to use the 20% discount for shopping if needed.
Bounder Huskman is an Orc, said to be an ambitious leader with a huge number of laborers under his leadership. He is most often found on worksites hands on with projects as Zero’s infrastructure is planned and built. Currently he is working on a bridge just out of town.

Umbriel listens to Jorge’s explanation, his fingers idly toying with the malachite as he absorbs the details. The task seems straightforward enough—find the missing party, recover the potions, and return. The added pressure of a ten-day deadline doesn’t faze him much, though the mention of the labor union and its leader, Bounder Huskman, is noted.
He slips the malachite into his pouch and glances briefly at the others. "I’ll follow your lead on any negotiations with Bounder Huskman. Business within civilization isn’t exactly my area of expertise."

Sylnache Ashrain - 7th Sojourn
