Though the crossbow bolt has less luck, Tatts' acidic breath scalds the bodyguard and warlock, although the warlock is able to avoid the brunt of the breath. Yet the damage breaks his composure and the darkness of Hunger of Hadar goes away.
Cursing the dragonborn the Vile Warlock lets out two beams at Tatts.

Tatts' longsword clashes against the chain shirt of the bodyguard, not finding purchase.
Herron's arrows zip through the air towards the warlock. The first one is ready to hit when the warlock shouts out and dark energy rises from his vestments to block the blow.
Reaction:Vile Vestments. The Vile Warlock shouts out as an attack hits it and draws forth the power woven within its vestments to add +5 to its AC against the triggering attack.
But the second hits as does the third, sending the warlock to the ground.
[[ note to self: definitely raise up the defensive CR a bit. Had initially based its AC / HP around looking at the mage, but it makes sense for a warlock to have more HP than a wizard. And should help it last a little longer since its current defensive CR was 1/2 with the offensive CR being the bulk of where its CR was coming from. Probably want to raise it defensive CR 1, maybe 2. (Will also have to see how taxing the following dragon fight is.) ]]

I understand that the Hunger of Hadar is no longer in effect and that I do not have to make any saves, nor take any damage from it's effects.
Herron fires 2 arrows at the Vile Warlock and will NOT use SHARPSHOOTER.
1st Attack: I rolled a TO HIT of 8 +10 = 18 for 6 points of damage
2nd Attack: I rolled a TO HIT of 9 +10 =19 for 6 points of damage
I used my ACTION SURGE to fire one more arrow this time using my SHARPSHOOTER feat: I rolled a 9 +10 (-5) = 14 for 8 +10 = 18 points of damage.
