Paladins who follow the Oath of Devotion share the following tenets:
Let your word be your promise.
Protect the weak and never fear to act.
Let your honorable deeds be an example.
From this point forward, these three bullet points will be the yardstick Cassian's words and deeds are measured against.
Breaking One's Oath
A Paladin tries to hold to the highest standards of conduct, but even the most dedicated are fallible. Sometimes a Paladin transgresses their oath. This happens from time to time and is totally fine.
A Paladin who has broken a vow will typically lose access to some class features until they seek absolution. (the class features determined on a case-by-case basis)
Absolution could be found by spending an all-night vigil as a sign of penitence or undertaking a fast. After a rite of forgiveness, the Paladin starts fresh.
I expect the above to happen once in a while.
I do not, however, expect the below to happen ... but if it ends up making for a cool story, and the player wants to take it in that direction ...
If we find ourselves in the unlikely situation regarding multiple, unrepentant acts of Oathbreaking ... we'll chat.
Perhaps another Oath would be better suited to the character (and they can then switch Oaths) or perhaps the character stops advancing as a paladin, and instead multiclasses, from that point forward advancing in a different class (keeping all abilities and class features gained up until that point). Or perhaps the character simply stops being a paladin altogether and gets reskinned/rebuilt as something else entirely. (that is, a new class or multiclass combo, right from level 1 onward)
Basically, what I am saying is ... if we get into this territory ... it is because the player wants to have it go down like that and the player will determine the way forward that suits them the best and then we'll find a way to write it into the tale.
Actually I think that was a pretty awsome Oath transition in game kudos. so is this like something only Cass saw the rest of us just sort of trying to sleep in a camp full of carivores? Like a vision where all we would see is him twitching in a fitfull sleep, or was that all really happening real time?

Thanks. I thought it was worth devoting a mini-scene to in the IC. Mostly because the Oaths that paladins take comes with RP strings attached in ways that other classes do not have.
The scene is actually occurring (it isn't a fever dream or anything).

Yeah, it was awesome! Thanks for doing that. I love Paladins for that reason.
I'm gonna venture to say that Doc should probably be the one to carry the Voidscale in case of wisdom saves.
Already said he will, not thinking of any wisdom saves:P
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"grandpa" Salkur, Gnome Arti/Sorc: Forged in Chaos | Pepin, Human Arti/Cleric: Goblin horde | Mixtli, Volc Genasi Arti: Champions of the Citadel | Erix Vadalitis, Human Druid: Rising from the last war |Smithy, Human Arti: Night Ravens: Black orchids for Biscotti | Tamphalic Aliprax, Dragonborn Wizard: Chronicles of the Accursed | Doc, Dwarven Cleric (2024): Adventure at Hope's End | Abathax, Tiefling Illriger: Hunt for the Balowang | Gorin Mestel, Human Arti: Descend into Avernus
A we enter the next phase of the adventure ... a slight shift in tone.
Up until this point, I have been pretty much leading the group by the nose into each of their scenes (here is a dungeon and a reason to explore it ... here is a swamp with a fetch quest ... etc).
After the party concludes their business with MaIrik, however, I plan on being more hands off. That is, the tale will have a bit more of a sandbox approach.
For this next arc, you will have a problem — indeed, a mystery — that needs looking into. The who, what, when, and where of how you look into it will be up to you.
Sounds good, really liking the adventure upto now :)

Yeah super interesting for me as well this is my first PbP adventure its pretty fun. I get a bit confused during combat and sometimes roll play when others post and i am not able to due to work but it really is pretty fun. Maybe I will try my own Exandrian PbP sometime :)
PS. since January my work place has been totally crazy, I hope it settels down soon but fear there is more crazy times ahead :(
All characters are present for the scene. If we get into situations where folks are separated then the post will be set up differently.
(like in this scene, when the party visited with Malrik, but Chromir did not go in because he wanted to keep an eye on the exit)

No pressure, Cass lol.
Just giving the IC thread a chance to breathe in case anyone else would like to post.
With my next update, the long rest will have passed and it will be morning in the lizardfolk encampment.

Yeah, I was wondering if only he could see it so they were just thinking he was talking to himself lol.

wow cool I guess Nav, pretty much being in awe, would just meditate quietly and hold space for Cas. :)

@Swiftgale, as before, please test Wisdom (survival) against DC15. You may roll with advantage due to Malrik's starmap.
A pass will result in the journey back to Hope's End taking three days.
A failure means that the party got lost somewhere along the way and the journey will take 1d4+3 days.
Once we know how long the journey will take ... each day (and night) of the journey, there will be a roll to test for random encounters.
One day has passed. I have deducted one day's rations from each of your sheets.
I'm gonna venture to say that Doc should probably be the one to carry the Voidscale in case of wisdom saves.

I don't have lots of time to check all threads and post IC right now, but before I forget, I will do the survival roll.
(11,
5) +4 = 15 (Just passes)After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)
A successful return journey (with no random encounters).
I have removed three days' rations from each of your sheets and added 50gp.

^^ No worries at all on posting frequency.
My own availability gets wonky from time to time, and I'm more than happy to set a realistic pace that works with folk's schedules.
Do any of us know where Luna lives lol?
