You can check out the books like a normal library, or by them for 3 silver each. With your perception, you quickly find all of them next to each other in spellcasting isle. The books give some useful information on spells and performing advice. Would you like to take time studying them or read them later?

The man laughs. "They think I'm a ghost. My glass body is transparent to them and they see only my clothing from that distance." He shoves his first into the sand and pulls it out. It has a layer of hard rock over it, and he give a brutal punch. 6 to hit, 8 bludgeoning damage. The rock shatters into sharp shards, dealing an additional 2 piercing damage. "So I'll admit, I should have came with flame-proof robes."

Morgot attacks again, bringing down another smite. 9 to hit, 11 damage, "You're no ghost to me."

Since that probably didn't hit, the smite wasn't used. 

Clapper will go ahead and buy all three. Might there be other books that he may be interested in nearby? just one or two if any.

The man looks at the burning remains of his robes. He grabs and swings it, with 10 to hit (-4 due to it being a weak piece of cloth) and 3 fire damage. He then quickly throws another punch with 21 to hit and 3 bludgeoning damage.

[There are a lot of books, so what topic do you want to look for? We have practically everything, just no unfathomable secrets of the outer planes since no one knows those things.]

I guess I wasn't very specific. He is especially looking for books on magic/music. He has always loved using magic to help his performance, wether just helping him play better, or making his shows more entertaining.
EDIT: my bad, I didn't make this clear at all, but I'd love to focus on trying to gain access to spells from other classes.
If this entails an entire quest/adventure, so be it. I guess the biggest thing would just be multiclassing, but it doesn't make sense to do that unless Clapper starts doing stuff that would explain it.

This vast library has "Using Illusion in Performance" and "Geralen's Guide to Hypnotic Performance" on magic in performing. There are the following books about music: "From Magician to Musician - An Autobiography", "Wind Theory - How to properly play wind instruments", and "Castle Entertainment Volumes 1 & 2." There is also "Charm of a Fey" on magic that is similar to what a Bard may use.

On magic from other classes, there are many books. Name a particular class and I'll name books.

The man collapses to the ground. "Good match. I enjoyed the fight. It's too bad I don't have the strength I once did, or the magic. Both of which you have." He stands up and puts his hand on your shoulder. "I could use that."

He will grab Charm of a Fey, and head back downstairs to the halfling.
" 'Ello. I'd like to purchase these four books."
Charm of the Fey, Playing with the Soul, Averbees Guide to Bard Magic, and Secrets of the Pipes.
EDIT: Clapper is 3'4'', if I remember correctly, just so you know.

"Ay feller." The halfling says sleepily, sitting up in his chair. "That would be 12 silver. Actually..." he thinks for a moment. "11 silver or 1 gold, since you pay 1 less silver for each 3 books you have. Have a nice day."

Morgot reaches down and helps the man to his feet, as they clasp hands light blossoms out and fills the man with vitality. (Lay on hands for 10 points of healing.) "It was a good fight. I've never seen someone who can do so much damage with nothing but their fists. I hope to meet you again some time." He returns to the area by the arena, and starts to pack his bags. He looks for a tavern that has some rooms available to take a rest, that fight took a lot out of him.

Clapper will actually not leave. He sticks his books inside his bag, and heads back upstairs. He saw another flight of stairs, and is interested what's up there.

The man nods. "I'll see you again. And next time, you will be bowing to me as I sit up on my throne."

Kraken's Tongue Bar has some rooms available. It's a massive outdoor tavern, other than the rooms of course, built on a boardwalk over a massive pit. The pit is filled with water, where you can faintly see a giant eel below. The outdoor bar is filled with people drinking merrily. It's a lot quieter inside the rooms, which are in a central 4 story building built in the center and supported by chains attached to the cavern ceiling. There are 2 service desks, one of which is available. The dwarf there brushes his red beard and asks, "How can I help you? We got rooms for 2 copper, 6 copper, or 2 silver. Pick the quality."
