Kessintra gives a sigh, relaxing somewhat as Garrick is allowed to finish his spell. She plays a few notes on her lyre for the bones and steps over to the window of the room, peering out in hopes of spotting Ireena and Ismirk to make sure they are alright. Hopefully the two won't be detained as well.
Zan ((ooc just catching up)) I will not be restrained or detained, Athletics roll 20. I will gladly accompany you and answer the questions of your superior, but considering the fact that the undead seem to freely roam your town I think it in my best interest to be able to defend myself AND your citizenry.
You can't see either of them. The room seems barren. The guards lead you downstairs where you see nineteen more of them, twelve of which seem sleepy. They start leading you to the Burgomaster's Mansion. Barring intervention, they lead you into the lounge.
Garrick takes a seat on a couch in the lounge, acting like he doesn’t have a care in the world, while at the same time very aware of the guards with them and their precarious situation.
Padded chairs and couches line the walls of this cozy, carpeted den. The room reeks of pipe smoke, and mounted on the east wall is the head of an angry-looking brown bear.
After a while, a skinnier man in expensive red clothes walks in. The devil armed man speaks up. "Shall I leave you be, my lord?" "No, not yet, Izek." He sits in one of the chairs and looks at the group. "So you're the troublemakers."
Kessintra remains silent, focusing on observing the red-clad man, presumably the burgomaster as she lets Garrick and the others handle the talking. So, devil-arm is Izek.
You may assume trouble makers at first glance, but it’d be more apt to say we discover and eliminate trouble that is already there. The foolish and cowardly would say we cause the trouble, but the wise and learned would be able to know the distinction — Does the doctor cause the illness or detect and excise it before it can lead to greater harm.
The baron seems irritated, a bit hostile. "The fact of the matter is that you should have reported the issue to the authorities. And you definitely shouldn't have announced it to the public. It goes against my entire mission. Secondly, I would like to speak of the way you speak to me. I... dislike the insinuation that I'm foolish."
"Even with our assistance, one of your guards was killed by the vampires. I doubt they would have fared well without us. Why shouldn't the people be warned about such things? Surely having the creatures lurking in your midst causes more 'unhappiness' than those people in the stocks."
"You could have warned the guards and went with them. The people can be blissfully ignorant. Your brazen announcement has drawn attention away from the upcoming joy of the festival and and replaced it with fear and doubt. This can't be ignored."
Kessintra frowns thoughtfully. 'Blissful ignorance'? Is that really all the Baron wants for his people? Still, it seems best to try to appease him if they want to avoid further trouble.
"I suppose we could have been...more subtle about bringing attention to the issue. My apologies. We were shocked, since we'd heard this place was safer from Strahd's influence than others."
Indeed, and you misunderstand me, you are not the fool and one of the wise ones, for you DO understand the difference I speak. But Kessintra is correct and I apologize, the vampires took us by surprise and we reacted poorly.
The baron takes a few moments, but then replies, "I'm glad you feel remorse, but I can't just pardon you. You are under arrest for disturbing the peace. Izek?" Izek starts handcuffing, starting with Kessintra. Acrobatics or Athletics to resist.
Kessintra sighs, considering her chances of slipping away if she runs now. She'd rather not get separated from the others, or have to actually hurt any of the guards. They probably won't have much trouble escaping from whatever prison the town has anyway. She'll let Izek handcuff her, but prepare to create a distraction in case any of the others try to resist.
As he moves to handcuff Kessintra Zan steps forward. Stay your hand constable. he draws his sword, presents it pomel first to Izek. Baron, I am Zantorin, cleric of Kelemvor and hunter of the undead. It was I that alerted you populace of the presence of the undead. It was I that kicked in the door of your citizens home and entered unlawfully. My dear friends followed, trying to dissuade be and upon seeing that I was set in carrying out the duty of my office as cleric accompanied me only to protect the local population. I humbly submit myself to you for your wise judgement and plead that my friends remain free to enjoy the hospitality of your town with the understanding of not causing any trouble.

Yes, I think we are ready.
(Investigation 18 - do I see anything else in the room?)

Kessintra looks around the lounge, trying to distract herself as they wait.

"It IS safer. You all need to understand that. We are the happiest place in all of Barovia, and I can't let you all compromise that."

Izek moves to handcuff the rest of you. Would anyone like to resist?
