"Common room for me - not used to a bed, and I don't 'sleep' in the human sense of the word" Marion says shyly "Also, if you need any help cleaning up or in the scullery I am happy to lend a hand for a few hours. No pay required, though a bit of that breakfast would be welcome if there is any to spare."
As the evening turns to night Mathias quickly falls asleep, but his sleep is not the respite of oblivion most people experience. As he sleeps nightmares of the sanctity of his childhood home being violated, the images especially a barbed whip tattoo of a Loviatar devotee tumbling into anxious moments of being adopted into a new and loving home of burying his fear and pain in layers of joy and adrenaline. His real father was a carpenter by trade, his birth mother a revel mistress. Mathias also sees the smile, not the laughing or toothy smile but just the happy smile of a loving accepting goddess Lliira, her presence a comfort allowing sleep, and a promise to bring joy back through the elimination of such pain. Mathias studies and dances the dance of the Scarlet Mummers one day he will even have the bladed dance heels... For now the night terrors subside and rest follows, as morning breaks a touch of a headache, the smell of breakfast, stomach gurgling, Mathias uses the sole chamber pot then heads down to break fast.
Sylvantras takes advantage of the room for part of the evening, leaving after finishing his nightly trance, frowning as leaves noticing Mathias's seemingly restless sleep. The ranger heads downstairs, doing his best to remain quiet and not wake those sleeping in the common area, before stepping outside. Never was much for the indoors, and the concept of a bed was overrated... he thinks to himself, breathing deep of the cool night air.
The wood elf proceeds to walk the streets of Shadowdale, glancing around and looking at the structures and whisps of smoke rising from the various chimneys. He walks down the middle of the roads, making no attempts to conceal himself, on the chance that the constabulary are about, he doesn't want to draw any untoward suspicions from those that make Shadowdale their home. A few hours later he returns to the Old Skull stepping in and smiling at the smell of breakfast cooking. "Good morning, it's an awfully nice day out there already." he quips, taking a seat.
Before heading to bed the barkeep will give you directions to the brewery. You all seem to rest well and meet back up for a simple yet filling breakfast before heading out.
You follow the direction you've been given, trudging maybe a mile or two out of town along an old dirt road that winds its way up a low hill.
As you near the top a large stone building comes into view, flanked by a couple of barns. By the door is a brightly painted sign that reads 'The Wizards Tower Brewing Co. For the freshest pint in the realms!'
There is a closed sign hanging on the door however. One you knocks gingerly and a show time later the door opens, there stands a fairly young looking gnome, sporting a very well cared for beard and a man-bun. Dressed in a yellow and brown plaid shirt tucked into a pair of brown pants held up with a pair of green suspenders.
May I help you? he says before looking up to see who it is. Then he notices your dress and your gear, a smile slowly creeps over his face, his cheeks begin to flush. Adventurers! Please please come in, oh do come in. He back out of the way of the door as you all step in. He ushers you over to a table near a make shift bar and offers you drinks?
As you look around, the entire building is infused with the smell of hops and beer, but it is clean and very well organized. A few humans and halflings, all dressed in much the same fashion as their boss, wander about, checking barrels and vats of bubbling liquid with no sense of urgency.
Mathias gladly accepts a drink. “Are you Glowie? Do you need some eradication specialists? I’m Mathias Knoble by the way. Nice looking place you’ve got here. One thing though, music. It lightens the mood increases production and generally brings joy to an otherwise lackluster shift.” Mathias is currently dressed in his traveling clothes and studded leather armor. His shawm packed away but his hand drum readily accessible. His boomerang still tucked in his belt and a quarter staff carved in roses in hand.
"None for me, thank you." Marion blushes "Just had a big breakfast. I hear that you have been having trouble with rats- please tell us about that!" As the others make their decisions about beverages, she quietly reaches over her shoulder and mutters an arcane phrase. The shepherds rod sheathed there is momentarily enveloped in a golden glow before returning to it's normal appearance. Marion looks a little nervous, almost as if this were her first official adventure.

Sylvantras waves off the offer of drinks. "Perhaps after dealing with this rat problem of yours." He says with a grin, happy to be of some use and waiting for the man to provide a bit more information about the rats.
Glowkindle wrings his hands a bit while keeping his eyes downcast, finally he speaks. As he does he grabs a stool and takes a seat with you.
For starters business has been good, I mean real good. So much so that I need to expand my operation. The first place to start would be to expand the beer cellar, he glances over to a locked hatch in the floor if the main brewing area, I hired some workmen to get started on it and boy did they. Very fast and efficient, until they uncovered an old wall. They cleaned to area around the wall out and called me to have a look.
I thought it may have been a wall to the old wizard tower that once stood on this site. Enjoying the thought of luck I had in gaining free square footage I asked the fellas to knock a hole in to see what might be on the other side.
Just as curious as I was they made short work of it, but before we could enter in to explore giant rats jumped out from the darkness and attacked us. We all got out ok, a few bites and some cuts, but no my cellar is completely unusable.
I'm looking for someone to dispose of the rats, find out where they came from and insure that I won't have anymore surprises springing from the hole. What'd you say? Help a young business gnome out?
"I think we'd be happy to look into it and dispose of the rats for you." Sylvantras begins. "Now there's just the matter of discussion of what our compensation, beyond a few drinks, might be."
Glowkindle thinks for a moment, thinking that he probably should not have started off by telling you how well business has been, then he sighs deeply, yes, well then, yes, compensation did you say? I am ready to offer 25 pieces of gold to each of you once the job has been completed. Yes, 25 beautiful, shiny pieces of gold coin.
Mathias draws his drum and begins a lively beat, looking at the workers as they move about the vats. As he matches a rhythm to the employees movements he begins to slowly pick up the pace watching to see if the employees react...
Encouraging Song. As you finish a Short or Long Rest, you can play a song on a Musical Instrument with which you have proficiency and give Heroic Inspiration to up to 2 allies who hear the song. (Marion Sylvantras)
Glowkindle looks nervously towards Marion, yes, 25 gold. I hope it's enough, I'm actually taking it from my expansion fund, it'll cut into some of my expansion plans but I really can't get started until this rat issue has been remedied. He looks toward the others at the table trying judge if the offer is acceptable.
"What do you think Sylvantras, 25 gold pieces sounds like an unpopular king's ransom to me... although it's just rats so I'm in, sounds too good to be true." Mathias Knoble stands up from the bar and lets the rhythm of his drum lead him into a little dance, his leather armor bends and moves as if broken into such movement many times.
"Twenty-five gold seems to be a reasonable price for elimination of giant rats."the ranger agrees. "That being said, if it becomes something more dangerous than that and there may need to be some renegotiation."
Glowkindle frowns for a minute, 25 gold and you can keep the spoils of your adventure, keeping and treasure you may find on the other side of the wall, or he pauses for a second, a 100 gold total to split amongst yourselves and I keep any and all spoils.
Excellent! the little gnome exclaims. He will lead the party over to the hatch in the floor, pulls a ring of keys from his belt and unlocks it. When you are ready then he lifts the hatch, Good luck friends.
((OOC when I get home I'll start the encounter in maps and we'll get it started. ))
