Wyrmpact, the adventuring party under King Gorath, King of Ruuth and the owner of the Golders Guild, has met up this morning in front of the Golders Headquarters, ready to walk in and receive their next mission as the norm. The Headquarters takes the form of a castle on the edge of the kingdom, with two towers at the front corners, a Kobold Guard on top of each one. The Back of the castle is connected to a large cave, that is known to be King Gorath's Hoard. The Kobold Guards open the castle gate, and you walk in. Inside is a pretty blank room, a tile floor with the adventure bulletin board on the left wall. A few other parties are standing about. Most of them looking at the board for their next job. One party at the front desk, talking with Gorath's right hand (I'll describe him here in a bit). The way things typically work is that a poster describing needed adventures is posted onto the board, and once chosen, they go to the desk to have them be registered as the ones taking on the adventure. You were ready to head to the board as you heard a voice from the front desk. "Hey, You 4, Com over here." Behind the desk was King Goraths Right Hand man, Ronaldo, a small gnome man with orangish skin, green facial hair and a silver pointed hat. He also has a semi-grumpy face about him, its his default expression/mood. (His image is at the bottom of this post). This is abnormal, as he typically just waits for a party to approach him. Ronaldo is beckoning you 4 over. What do you do? (If you want to make a skill check of any kind, please ask first before you roll)
While out of the norm, there is nothing that Ryxath finds suspicious or dangerous here, the Wyrmpact has been to this office many times before to pick up Adventures from the board and are acquainted with Ronaldo. While standoffish and somewhat unpleasant, Ryx knows the man must have something important to say if he is breaking protocol. To that effect, Ryx walks over to Ronaldo's desk and greets him pleasantly.
Bokshir pretty much struts through the gates as he tries to put on an air of authority in front of the kobold guards, suspecting them of believing him a fraud. It is a slightly comical sight as he is a fairly diminutive golden kobold standing at only 2'9", and although he wears a rather fancy shield, it is accompanied by nothing more than a thick gnarled and knotted stick rather a sword or proper weapon. He does have a chain shirt on as well under his travelling clothes, but it would be quite a push to call him impressive.
What did they know anyway? He may have come into his power in a slightly less than honourable way, but he had proved his worth since. He gives Venel a glance as those thoughts occur to him.
It is with that in mind when he hears Ronaldo call them over. He looks behind him in case the gnome meant someone else, but there were no others there. He tries to gage the gnomes demeanour, and work out if Wyrmpact were in trouble.
"You sure mean us? Wyrmpact, yes yes?", he asks motioning at his companions and himself.
(OOC: Bokshir would like to roll insight at this point please)
Imagine this fellow with a fancy shield and a chain shirt.
Aruzhal had been standing tall and rigid next to Bokshir when Ronaldo had called them over. One might not even notice he was alive, save for the puff of frost that escaped his nostrils with every breath. But at the summons he turns, making his way across the room toward the right hand man's desk. A low grunt is the acknowledgement of Bokshir's whisper.
"What does thou desireth of us?" he asks, his voice a low, frigid rumble as he stops before the desk.
Venel pushes back his hood as he walks up to Ronaldo. The dragonborn's vivid green scales shine in the light, contrasting with his black clothing. His rapier's at his side, two daggers are in easily-accessed pockets, and a shortbow and quiver are strapped to his back.
The usually-charming rogue is agitated, his tongue flickering out past his lips as he draws in his breath before he speaks, irritation obvious in every syllable.
"What. Do. You. Want? Whatever debt you claim I owed has been more than payed."
Venel practically spits the last word, then swallows back the green venom that had begun accumulating in his mouth.
“It has nothing to do with that, thief.” (Thief being what he calls Venel on the regular) “if anything, I’m as confused as you are, for you see…” he looks around to be sure no one else is listening and whispers to the party “his highness has asked that you four are sent to his hoard to talk with him… directly! Why? I don’t know, but that’s what he told me this morning, so follow me.”
he gets up from his chair and begins to walk behind him towards the big wooden double doors, expecting you to follow him.
Bokshir involuntarily flinches as Ronaldo calls Venel thief. It was of course true, but he really wanted Venel to forget the circumstances around his capture, and Bokshir's part in it.
When told they were going to meet King Gorath in person though, he forgets all about that.
"Tolds yous. Me know King. Me chosen of King", he says to the rest of Wyrmpact proudly as if he is the reason for the summons.
I have only spoken with King Gorath once before when he hired me into his service, Ryx says nervously. I hope he isn’t displeased with our work for him.
Aruzhal crosses his arms as he listens, following Ronaldo as instructed. The voices of Bokshir and Ryx elicit a "hmph" and a shake of the head respectively - their work had been up to standard. Several adventures had proved that.
(Masq, only Ronaldo calls you that, he’s just bitter. he calls you that all the time, ever since you first joined the party)
Once he opens the doors and lets you all in, you walk inside. Anyone who looks behind you can see that some of the other parties are very confused and/or worried seeing you walking into the kings hoard. The door is shut behind you and you see a good long tunnel that goes on for a while. It’s a natural one, no stone bricks or construction of any kind. Just… a cave. There are, however torches along the walls to keep things lit up. There are a few turns as you walk through, but not many. It takes you only a few minutes before you see an incredible sight.
King Gorath’s hoard! A HUGE cavern with MOUNTAINS of gold, juels, and other valuables. There is a pretty large opening at the top of the cavern, letting sunlight through. There are some massive marble pillars kind of strewn about the place, each one almost reaching the top of the cavern. King Gorath himself is on top of the largest gold pile in the cavern. Physically, he looks just like the gold dragon image in the Monster Manual. He is pacing back and forth atop his gold with a demeanor that shows… fear, great fear.
”Your Magesty, I have brought you Wyrmpact as you requested!” Ronaldo shouts up towards the King. The king stops his pacing and looks down at you.
”Ah, thank you, Ronaldo.” He unfurls his magestic wings and flies down towards you all, landing as softly as he could. “Greetings, Wyrmpact. You four have proven yourself to be great adventurers since joining my guild. And for that, I am bestowing on you a secret mission of great importance… world threatening importance.”
If anyone wants to roll insight on the king, go ahead
(Edit; to those reading, Venel's player quit at this point, so pretend he didn't exist this point forward)
Bokshir most definitely looks back as they are led through the big double doors, his expression one of superiority and validation.
In truth he had only really been in the presence of King Gorath once before, despite having seen him from a distance often during his time as a hoard guard. Like last time, the sheer size of the King takes his breath away, and rather than take a knee purposefully he is buffeted to the ground a little by the rush of air that accompanies the golden dragons landing.
"It is an honour to be in your presence again", he says to the King as he looks up on him in awe. He stresses the word again, emphasising it so the others can't miss it. "I am at your service, as always", again he stresses the word always this time.
He obviously notices the King's agitated state, having seen him up close a whole one time prior to this.
Ryx rolls his eyes at Bokshir. This isn’t the first or twentieth time he has mentioned his meeting with the King before, despite knowing Ryx also met Gorath when he was conscripted to his service. Yes it is something to be proud about, but hardly a unique experience among all his employ.

Imagine this fellow with a fancy shield and a chain shirt.
Insight to see if you're in trouble?
OOC: Indeed, unless a passive of 15 does the trick?
It does. He doesn't seem mad at you, despite his demeanor, but you can tell that there is something concerning him
Bokshir follows Ryxath across. Now that he doesn't believe he is in trouble, he feels a little curious as to what is concerning Ronaldo.
"He seem unease", he whispers to the rest of Wyrmpact.

Venel hisses at being called a thief and glares when he's told Gorath wants to see them.
"Fine, I will see what he wants."
They've made far more demands of him than anything he stole was worth, but they call him a thief?!

(I'll roll insight. 18)
Aruzhal stands stoically within the cavern, his head glancing up toward the king. As he approaches, the white dragonborn drops to a kneel.
"Thy majesty. We live to serve - what mission would this be?"
Ryx gets a 12 Insight.
Yes sir, it’s been an honor serving you, what do you request of us?
Bokshir most definitely looks back as they are led through the big double doors, his expression one of superiority and validation.
