Only Bokshir notices that the king is putting on a brave face, but is deep down horrified, even with a tear shedding down his cheek that he tries to hide.
"Well, let me explain. There was an item in my hoard that I'd been guarding for centuries... and this morning, it was gone. It is a dangerous relic that if in the wrong hands, could mean disaster for all of Dragonaught. The Orb of Tiamat." (At the mention of Tiamat, Aruzhal feels a chill up his spine and a breathy voice sigh in his ear) "This orb contains the physical form of Tiamat within, and with the proper ceremony, can summon Tiamat out of the Nine Hells and into our world, leaving nothing but destruction in her wake. I am tasking you three warriors with retrieving this orb and bringing it back to me! Whatever you do, don't touch it! Be sure you are wearing gloves when you handle it. I shall provide you with a bag of holding to store it and anything else you'd need for this mission to succeed. This mission is secret, so no one else, not even from the Golders Guild can know about this. Do you understand?"
Ronaldo jumps in before anyone could respond "Wa-wait, your majesty. Why are you trusting such lower level adventurers on this important task?"
"I have seen them in action, I firmly believe that they are the only ones I can trust" (Turns to the party) "Now, feel free to speak and ask me any questions you have before I send you off."
Ronaldo sighs in defeat and side-eye's the party while Gorath awaits the party's response.
Ryx stands straighter, prouder than he has ever felt, knowing that Gorath trusts and believes that he and his party, among all his subjects, were the ones to take on this task.
Are you able to provide any information about the thief or the current whereabouts of the orb? Was there anyone out of the ordinary that has had access to your horde? As for mission gear, I do not know what items you are able to provide... Ryx pauses momentarily and gazes around the gigantic horde... but for myself, an item of protection such as bracers of defense or cloak of protection would be beneficial while investigating and searching for such a dangerous item. Alternatively, a weapon such as wand of magic missiles would help me eliminate those that stand in our way.
"I am sorry, Young Kobold, With the knowledge of someone being able to get into my hoard, I'm afraid that nothing will be leaving it from this point forward. As for the other questions you had, the only other one who has free access to my hoard is Ronaldo, and even then he has to ask first. As for a clue... I found this scroll near where the orb was"
He lays down the scroll in front of you, and when you look at it, it's some sort of magical scroll, but it doesn't seem to be a spell scroll.
"This is a scroll that members of the Cult of Tiamat use. It instantly kills the user when activated, as to prevent any cult goons from spilling any information if captured. I believe that it was taken by the cult and the thief who took it must've dropped it."
Aruzhal's eyes widen as the sensation reaches him, but he quickly shoves it aside. Hgazes toward the scroll, then back up to the king.
"Doth thou know of any nearby bases of operations that the cult uses?"
"None nearby... anymore. Any base near here has already been destroyed by other adventurers of my guild, so any basses would be a distance away, but I unfortunately can't tell you of any specific locations"
Bokshir equips his sentinel shield and goes to look, having been given the ok.
"Good good, will look see", he mutters.
Perception (with advantage due to sentinel shield for spotting clues): (1, 17)+5=22 (passive 20) Perception (with advantage due to sentinel shield for spotting tracks): (1, 9)+5=14 (passive 20)
OOC: I absolutely love the sentinel shield for this very reason! That would've been my magical item pick too if my guy could carry a shield. OOC: I'm also not sure how you guys play passive checks. I've heard it 2 ways, and I think the DM should rule which way we will do it in this campaign: 1. You literally can't roll below your passive score (passive = minimum possible score) 2. Passive doesn't count when you are actively looking and just straight rolls for that. Note: I'm good either way and definitely not saying this directed at Bokshir, but his passive score just reminded me of this.
…, I meant to say persuasion, because you asked the king for certain equipment to go to venture with… Ignore the perception checks altogether, the king hasn’t taken you to the place where the orb was yet.
OOC: Happy for DM to decide how passive is used. I always include it so DM decides the result with that info.
OOC: Yeah understood, always good to give the DM all the info! For the record, I usually do it as a minimum score, bc why would you be worse when you are trying vs just passively doing it? lol

😀 OOC: Me too. Jeremy Crawford did an interview stating that is RAI too. Can dig it out later maybe.
“I apologize, it’s not personal, but I’m not letting anyone get into my hoard until further notice. Where you stand is as far as I’ll let you go. As for the rides, I can provide you 2 ride ready horses and some leads.”
Aruzhal frowns. This would not be easy. The horses would be useful though - he would take one and the kobolds the other one. He looks back to the king.
"Entrances to your hoard... only the front door and the skylight, correct?"
He looks to Ronaldo. "Hast thou seen any suspicious figures entering the castle grounds lately?"
Only Bokshir notices that the king is putting on a brave face, but is deep down horrified, even with a tear shedding down his cheek that he tries to hide.

Roll for persuasion, for magical Items he probably wouldn't want to be used from his hoard
Persuasion 8 😑

"Yes, majesty. Trust Bokshir, catch thief before. Trust Wyrmpact", Bokshir replies.
"Can see where Orb stole from? Other clue might find. Tracks might be", he asks of the king respectfully.
He thinks for a moment on what has been said before adding, "If need far travel, something ride be good".
Roll 2 perception checks, one for each request. (The order of the rolls will be the same as the order of the requests asked in the post)

Oops, that makes sense.

Ronaldo:
“That’s correct, and no, I haven’t. The only persons who enter that aren’t of the Golders Guild are messengers delivering to the king”
“Much thanks for horses”, Bokshir replies with an attempted graceful bow that doesn’t quite hit the mark.
He thinks for a moment, “We go check roof, look tracks?”.
does he ask his party, the king, or Ronaldo?
