As you travel along the river, the moon starts to set. You know that very soon you won't be able to see anything at all. (unless, of course you have night vision.)
Having spent some time in the river, Owen joins the group and lights his lantern.
OOC: Just so I don't have to keep saying it, Owen will take opportunities to soak in water and/or use his create water spell and rain catcher in order to keep his skin moist. Unless for some reason these actions are dangerous or impossible.

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"
As the party travels along river, the short dwarf at the back speaks up.
"Well, to be honest, we never really did get to know each other. This one's an elf, this one is a... actually, I'm not quite sure what you are. A frog, perhaps? And what would you be?"
Bemused, Traeth looks around for answers.
OOC: (last question directed at shadar-kai. pretty sure that vaelen's an elf but not totally totally sure.)
Vaelen acknowledges each ally’s decision with a quiet inclination of his head. His gaze settles first on the frogman, then the dwarf, his tone calm and steady as he speaks:
“I welcome your company. Each of us brings something unique to this journey, and together we may find what none could alone.”
As the group travels along the river, Vaelen takes in Traeth’s curious look and the dwarf’s question. Although his words are gentle, there is purpose in them:
“I was born of shadowed lineage, a Shadar-kai—an elf bound to the twilight realms. Though I travel the paths of this world, I carry echoes of another place within me. I mean no harm by it, and I share your cause.”
When the sound of approaching footsteps disrupts the night’s silence, Vaelen’s posture shifts. He stands taller, one hand calmly sliding free his staff while the other rests near the spell components at his belt. His voice quiets, steady but firm:
“We face restless souls drawn from beyond their natural rest. Let us move as one. Keep your lantern close, your weapons ready, and your purpose clear.”
With that, Vaelen braces himself, prepared to stand alongside these newfound allies against whatever emerges from the darkness.
('Bumping' in case people have just forgotten about this game.)
I think we are all agreed that we are all on the road to Blackspire.

That's fine.
Almost as soon as Traeth finishes asking, you hear the sound of footsteps ahead, behind, and in the trees on your side.
Kaelen freezes, scanning the trees silently.
Perception: 24
Kaelen hears a number of creatures in the dark, most likely something along thee lines of ghouls or zombies.
"Undead." Kaelen informs the others simply, drawing his longbow in case any of the creatures get too close.
Which they do. The footsteps get closer and closer until you start to see the shapes of several creatures coming out of the woods.

Initiative please

(I believe Vaelen was left out of the initiative order. Though, I'm sure he's at the bottom, haha)

My bad about Vaelen. He's right after zombie1.
2014 better than 2024, you are unfortunately too late. Malon and Traeth are at the bottom of the round.
Kaelen is up.
Kaelen takes aim at ghoul 1 with his longbow.
Bonus Action: hunter's mark on ghoul 1
Action: longbow to hit 17, damage 12 + 1 HM
