You were told that Madame Freona’s Tea Kettle was the place where adventurers could find work and avoid the hassle associated with other places in Phlan. So far, that has been true. Madame Freona, a stout and officious halfling who runs the establishment with her five daughters, has proven an excellent hostess.
The Kettle is by no means a large inn, but it always finds a way to accommodate its guest with that well-known halfling hospitality. The place is quite busy with the morning rush, and even though no one has had to resort to eat while standing, there isn't a lot of free sitting room remaining. Many city folk are coming in and out for a quick warm bite before the workday begins, and more than a few are already enjoying their first drink of the day. Madame Freona herself is busy at the kitchen, while her daughters run incessantly to a fro trying their best to keep up with all the orders.
After a peaceful night’s rest, Briez, one of Madame Freona’s five daughters, is serving your table a delightful family-style breakfast, which includes freshly made wildberry jam on warm biscuits in portions large enough for all of you to partake. She seems to be very proud of the food she is serving the table and is also asking if you'd like anything else. That offer was made mostly out of habit, however, as she is already looking over the next table who is trying to catch her attention. Another of Madame Freona's daughter, Reece, is busy serving the tables nearest to the entrance. She seems to be acquainted with some of the people at your table, saying a curious "Hello" every time she passes by with some dish or drink destined to another patron.
(OOC: Take this opportunity to describe your character's appearance and what they are doing or saying at the moment. Not everyone needs to be at the table eating, as suggested above).
"Evening, missy." Says a dwarf of around 4 and a half feet in height. He has young features about him, tough his hair is already a ghostly white. He has a strong build, his muscles hidden beneath his padded gambeson and chain mail. Tilted into a back scabbard, is an greataxe whose haft is longer than he is tall, and beside him is a pack of the traditional traveller. He carries a glaive too, enjoying the feel of effectively a longer axe weapon. "Gotta say, best tavern within a thousand farthings at least."
He pulls out a gold piece to give to Reece to pay for his next lot of drinks.
A human barbarian enters the tavern and begins to look around. He is a little over 6 feet with fairly large muscles which are easy to see as he wears no armor. He has black hair and wields a staff which he uses while walking. On his back is a greataxe and on he has one handaxe on each side of him. He tries to conceal his anxiety but he is clearly uncomfortable being around so many people in this type of environment. He walks over to the side of the tavern and begins to look to for a seat.
Utar opens the door to The Kettle and strides in, nodding a hello to Reece as he paases. He is a tall and broad half orc with grey skin and prominent tusks in his lower jaw. He jingles as he walks, betraying the chainmail that lies under his grey tabbard that displays the white gaunlet of Torm.
Noticing Drazzim he walks over, slapping the dwarf on his shoulder in greeting. "Evening? You still deep in your cups, dwarf?"
Utar takes a seat at the table and motions for Drazzim to put his money away. "Your gold is no good here," he chuckles, leaning over to Briez "Whatever gutrot the dwarf is drinking and a hot tea for me, whenever you get chance."

Rosipine Feldwelder, a gnome of medium height (for a gnome) with dyed magenta hair fading into her natural blonde, has been working the passing crowd outside the Tea Kettle with her lute performances. (Performance13) It's getting time for a break so she gets up, grabs the few coins in her lute case that passers by have dropped in it, and heads in to the Tea Kettle. She heads up to the halfling-height bar and creates a minor illusion of a glass filling by itself with amber liquid, which she points to while waving with her other hand at the nearest of Madame Freona's daughters in order to get her attention.
Sitting at the bar is two darker complexion humans talking among each other, one an older male, no hair on his head but graying in his facial hair. The other a not-as-old female, sporting a large black afro with a red ribbon tied around the base. They are saying their goodbyes to each other as they are currently headed different directions, once again. The male, Darrius, stays behind at the bar while the female leaves, ordering himself another ale.
/e Darrius wears natural brown leathers and sports two scimitars on his sides. He has a longbow currently standing on the ground between his legs, while he drinks. His pack on the left side has a quiver laying at a rough 45 degree angle towards his front for quick drawing arrows. Looking at his fatty, while muscular body you can easily tell he is well over 6'.
*** He's not fat, but he does not have a lithe body style. He's got some beef but obvious muscle there too.
"Oh of course friend!" Looking towards the young lady who served him his ale earlier "Another ale for me and my new friend here, babe." Pushing a gold coin to the other side of the bar.

"Aye, Aye, Utar. Another tankard or two of the usual for Drazzim, and some hot tea on the way. Will chamomile do?" says Briez, already heading back to the bar. "Always good to see repeat customers."
Grelinda, the youngest of Madame Freona's daughters is the one manning the bar this morning. She doesn't seem to be in the mood to talk, clearly disliking having to wake up so early, but she completes her tasks as well as any of the daughters. Without looking directly at it, Grelinda scoops the gold coin left there by Darrius and quickly pours two tall tankards worth of white morning ale in front of the bald man and his new, unconformable friend.
Reece is the first to catch a glimpse of Rose's waving hand. Wasting no time, she rushes over with a pitcher of frothy brown ale and immediately refills the gnome's cup... or tries to. "Sorry, mam... sorry" she looks incredulously towards the would-be cup, which is holding no actual liquid and is now surrounded by a healthy serving of the ale she just spilled over the counter.
(Rose's performance check: the entertainer earned a total of 21cp and 6sp from her act outside the Kettle).
"Heh, I'll spend my coin how I like, Tormite." Drazzim chuckles as Utar takes a seat. "If I want to overpay for my drinks in a lovely establishment I will do."
He stands up and clasps his hand to shake with Utar. "So how fare you? Not having any issues with forgeries this time, eh?"
Rose dispels the illusion. "No, it's my bad; that wasn't my most well thought out performance." She pulls out a cloth handkerchief and tries to sop up the spilled ale.
"My thanks!" Graxx says to Darrius as he raises his tankard. Graxx then takes a slow gulp of the white morning ale and closes his eyes for a moment. He then opens them and says to Darrius, "With ale like this I may want to live in a town myself! Some things you just can't find on the road. Including women. Was that your lady that sat here before me?"
Closing his eyes letting out a deep sigh followed by a look toward Graxx "No, that would be my sister." Turning his full gaze towards Graxx now "The names Darrius, how about you?" Ignoring his ale.
"Ah! Well she is a fine looking lady!" Graxx says while laughing now starting to become more comfortable in this atmosphere. Graxx swells with pride and states, "I am Graxx of the Sky Pony Tribe! Glad to share a drink with you, Darrius!" Graxx leans forward and glances up and down the bar then looks back to Darrius. "I am told this is where the willing can make coin. Are you looking for work as well?" Graxx asks as he nods toward the scimitars on Darrius's belt.
"We're just passing through, Nanika has business in town so i'm just hanging about until she's done." He downs his ale "If coin finds it's way to my hands while I'm waiting around, then so be it.'
Utar inhales deeply, closing his eyes slightly as he does. "Chamomile... Nowhere else brews it like this." He sips his tea quickly, not wanting to let it get cold.
Shaking his head, Utar chuckles. "No fake dwarven eggs you mean? No farmyard intrigue? No one earred bandits? No, not today." He sets his mug of tea down and looks round The Kettle at the many patrons. "Do you see the others from that night around?"
As if in reply to Utar's last comment, Cato Vandebar, who got in late last night after a few days spent in the woods, comes downstairs yawning. He is overweight and middle aged. He wears brown trousers and a white collared shirt with a faded checkerboard pattern. He has a black bowtie around his neck. When he reaches the dining area, he pulls a crumpled handkerchief out of his old green velvet vest. He uses the handkerchief to clean his spectacles before surveying the room. Upon spotting his friends Utar and Drazzim, wanders over to them and sits down.
"Well, gentlemen, good to see you again. How have you been?"
Spotting Cato at her table, Briez skips over with a smile and a fresh batch of freshly made wildberry jam and warm biscuits. "Ya'know, y'all gonna have to tip me as well as you do Reece, with all this prompt service I offer," the young halfling woman giggles. "My sisters and I picked the berries ourselves,” she adds, sweeping her long black hair out of her face. “Some say the wildberries in this area are—” Before Briez can finish her thought, shrieking erupts from the street outside the Kettle. While the scream is mostly unintelligible, you do make out the words 'help' and 'family' being yelped by a female voice.
The inn goes completely quiet... for a second or two. As if nothing had happened, most of the patrons seem to simply pick up where they had left, eating, drinking, and getting ready for their day's work. Briez, however, is clearly frightened, and looking at Drazzim, Utar, and Cato for comfort. Reece, done helping Rose clean up and now serving the gnome a proper mug of brown ale jumps a bit with the scare, spilling a bit more of the liquid on the counter. Unfazed, Grelinda delivers two more tall tankards to Darrius and Graxx.
Utar nods in greeting and raises his mug "The very man! Torm has kept us well."
Utar furrows his brow as if thinking of the correct words, "We have indigenous leaves, dried and infused in hot water," pointing to his own mug, "Or malted grain, boiled and cooled, flavoured with hops." indicating Drazzim's tankard.
