Backstory: Once a part of a loving family, I spent my days reading and learning about the world. I was born deaf, so nobody in the village could understand me. My parents saved up money so that we could get a tutor, and all learn common sign language. I was 6 years old when I finally could communicate with my family. After that, life got a little easier, a little happier.
One night I awoke to flames and smoke in our cottage. My mother rushed me out a small window and told me to run for the forest. She told me that they would be right behind me. As I ran I witnessed our entire village up in flames. I couldn't hear them, but I'm sure there were plenty of screams. I ran for the edge of the forest and found some high tree roots to hide in. It was there I stayed and waited. I waited so long that I fell asleep there under that tree.
I awoke the next morning in the same spot as I had hidden, my parents were nowhere to be found. In the distance my village smoldered and smoked into the sky. I cautiously returned only to discover that nobody was there. Unsure as to whether they had all burned away or been taken somewhere, I knew that I was alone.
I spent a few years wondering the forests and learning how to survive on my own. It was even more difficult without the ability to hear, hunting especially. One day, while I was tracking a doe, I stumbled upon a camp of only a few men. Staying in the bush I watched as these men brutally butchered the doe that I had been tracking. Something about these men was oddly familiar though. I stayed and tried to figure out why, then I got a clear look at their leader's face. I had seen him before, just briefly, on the worst night of my life. I tried to slowly retreat before they discovered me. As I made my move to flee, I felt the snapping of a large twig under my foot.
Chasing me through the forest, they shot arrows and threw spears at me. Thankfully I was a small moving target, or they may have hit me a few times. I tried to keep them in the forest so I could keep the cover of trees to my advantage, but in the chaos, I lost track of where we were and ended up in a clearing. As I entered the clearing, rain started to slowly build from the sky. I thought to myself that this was perfect, I couldn't be luckier if I tried. I was wrong. The next thing I knew my legs couldn't move and I faceplanted in the mud and grass. I looked down to see a rope with stones around my ankles. They had caught up with me. With their weapons drawn I could see them surrounding me in the glow of the lightning flashes. Suddenly, all four of them plied on top of me at once and began cutting away my clothing. I knew what was about to happen, the same thing my mother had protected me from all those years ago. I was more scared than I had ever been. I couldn't tell what was tear and what was rain. I couldn't do anything but stare into the sky and pretend it wasn't happening.
Just then, as I had given up all hope, directly above I saw the relief I had so desperately wanted. A bolt of lightning began to form overhead, I watched as if time had been slowed by magic. The end of my pain was directly overhead, coming to take me away. Despite the physical situation I was in, I couldn't help but smile as the bolt crashed down, striking me directly in the chest.
To my surprise, I awoke with nothing but confusion and tattered rags. I saw the 4 bodies, lifeless, strewn around me. As the sun rose above the horizon, I breathed in the blessing of this new day and listened to the bird's chirp. Listened!? Startled by the sensation I had never experienced before, I had cowered and cautiously sought out the source. Finding the birds in their nest, I shed tears for the beauty. I had been saved by something, something strong enough to control the weather and bless me with senses I didn't possess. I didn't know its name, but I knew that I would forever be grateful and one day learn of its nature.
After that day I began to enter society more often. How else would I find any answers to the questions I had? Were my parents still alive somewhere? Who were those men that attacked my village and later attacked me? What was the divine intervention I experienced and where did it come from?
I never discovered the name of the being that saved me that day, but I did learn to speak as they speak. They told me to learn ways to keep myself alive because my struggle is not over.
Rough Backstory, open to be changed: Waeslen, youngest of three sisters, was born to humble and nomadic wood elf parents. Her youth was spent in the dense copse of wilderness somewhere within the Reaching Woods. Being a wild family as they were, Waeslen kept her distance from humans and other races- though she was always curious and keen to watch from behind the thick branches that obscured her. She spent most of her childhood travelling to nearby wood elf family units to learn their ways and their worship, but despite it all she finds that Erevan, elvish god of trickery, is who she chooses to send her prayers to. She has lived and grown with the forest for some 100 odd years, only leaving for trade and brief trips into nearby towns, and now, on the cusp of her elven adulthood, has noticed the unnatural forces at play. After a small scuffle and an attack by wayward undead that she and her family group narrowly fended off, she decides that it is finally time to set out on her own. Curiosity getting her better, Waeslen sets out to investigate and explore the world (and subsequently gets unto more trouble than she had ever hoped to). She has found that, in the heat of battle, she settles into the calmest fury she has ever known and it is an uncomfortably addicting sensation— and she wonders if the fleeing deer feel as viscerally excited to face danger as she.

Character Name: Phorus

Class: Bard
Subclass: (College of Dance)
Background: Guide

Phorus was always quick on his feet, but even quicker in his mind. He was drawn to the underlying power behind music and dance, the influence that came from people enjoying your company. He jokes easily and laughs easier. He used to guide people around the forest, entertaining them and learning the ins and outs of nature. Despite his seemingly distracted personality, he is constantly on the alert for danger and ready for an adventure.

Note, I also have a Sorcerer that I can play, since we don't have any full casters.
Jelceli Pinnonite grew up in a small forest village that served as a border guard post. From an early age, he was trained in military discipline, assisting his village's guards and learning the ways of stealth, vigilance, and defense. Although small, his quick reflexes and sharp mind made him a skilled scout.
However, after years of service, Jelceli began to feel that guarding the physical borders of his land was not enough. During a patrol, he encountered a traveling monk who spoke of inner peace and balance. Inspired, Jelceli left his post to seek out a distant monastery, where he honed his skills in martial arts and meditation, blending his natural agility with disciplined training.
Now, as a monk, Jelceli roams the world, seeking to protect the innocent and find balance within himself. Though his past as a soldier remains with him, he’s learned that true strength comes from harmony of mind, body, and spirit.
